REISSUE of book first published in 1998.

The cataclysmic battle for Carn Merioneth has returned Mychael ab Arawn to the castle of his birth and freed the pryf, the spawn of dragons, into the caves that lie beneath the fortress walls. But treachery and danger abound in the land, forcing Mychael to forsake his monk’s vows in an ever more desperate search for the great and fiery beasts of his most haunting vision – Ddrei Goch and Ddrei Glas, the Red Dragon and the Green Dragon, guardians of the Gates of Time.

Beset on all sides by those who would usurp his rule and use Mychael’s prophesied power for their own purpose, only one of the Quicken-tree dares to follow the mysterious young warrior on his chosen path into deepest danger, Llynya, an elfin sprite with a brave heart and a lightning-fast blade. When long-vanquished enemies return and monstrous forces are gathered on their borders, an ancient priestess will set Mychael and Llynya to the deadly task of their fate. They must call forth the dragons and face an unimaginable evil that threatens to sweep them all into a timeless vortex without end.

But even as he brings the great and mighty dragons to heel, Mychael knows the cost of battle will be dear, and the price he must pay for victory will change him forever.

OMG finally. Dream Stone ended up being such a slog and not as much fun as re-reading the previous book, The Chalice and the Blade.
This is pretty much how the experience felt like:

The book is about 50% too long and the main characters are kinda boring, Naas and Madron's activities were much more interesting than anything Mychael and Llynya got up to and there were a million people contemplating war, preparing for war and the going off to war.. and the sex scenes, omg. The first sex scene between our lead couple was literally a chapter-long lead-up, culiminating in "they boned three times and everybody orgasmed simultaneously during the last one" AHAHAHAHA. What I *do* like about these books is the concept of the worm holes - I love the concept of the worm hole not only being related to the lair of dragons and wyrm but ACTUALLY BEING A TIME TRAVEL WORM HOLE, booyah! The time-travelling aspect was mentioned much more explicitly in this book, and we are already given hints about the future and certain characters..

I think I will put my re-read of the final book of the trilogy on hold for a while though.

Too many names and places all in Welsh. I was confused. I only read half of the first chapter. I loved Tolkien's world, but not this one. Tedious to slog through.

So this book is definitely more fantasy and less romance. I think those looking for a romance will be sadly disappointed. As for the fantasy portion... I'm torn with this book. I think the concept and the plot were really good. There are a lot of aspects of this book I love. The characters are kind of flat, but otherwise ok. The author tends to describe things in detail that don't really benefit the story. All of that would have been ok though, but the ending was so disappointing. Its pretty much just "and they defeated the bad thing, but we don't know how. Oh, and these other characters just went missing and we have no idea what happened to them. The end. It was a let down for sure. I word rather the author had left out some of the lore of the world and explained more of the ending.

The two main characters are enjoyable and fun to get to know but the heavy language and vast cast has you constantly referring back to the glossary and list of characters. Could have cut the cast in half and had a better book. The plot was too busy with many sidelines going on at once. It took me half way through the book to get into it.

I vividly remember this book cover. I have this book on my shelf and can even tell you where it is. However, I can not for the life of me remember this story that well. I just remember it was historical and love conquers all at the end with a HEA. It wasn't my type of book if I couldn't remember it except for the cover.

This was a great book! An original story set in an original fantasy world. I loved Mychael and Llynya, and the story was interesting, with just enough romance. I've read this multiple times and have enjoyed every read.
