A 13-year-old girl moves through a world equal parts routine and randomness, tenderness and violence, tedium and excitement, intimacy and ambivalence, making no distinction between one state or another, her life rendered in minute physical description with only as much psychological insight offered as would be leveled at a stray cat or an insect.

Regard is a novel about a girl. She lives in a world of minute detail. Every action, no matter how insignificant is fully explored but so impersonal at the same time. As you read on, you cannot help but sense a coming implosion. What has happened to her? She is robotic but not artificial. There has been trauma but no coping. There is no climax or happy ending but an exposure. I feel like this is a vague review but this was a different novel.I do not believe in spoilers or giving too much away but it is very worth reading. This wasn't quite a first book but I cannot say thank you enough for this getting my hands on this.

I won this book on Goodreads giveaways. I found this book to be interesting, but disturbing at the same time. I don't know if I liked this book or not. I don't want to give away the storyline, but I think one of the reasons I didn't enjoy parts of it are that I have a 13 yr old daughter myself. I did like the writing style so I'm willing to try another book by Pablo D'Stair and see if it was just the subject matter that disturbed me.
