DWED Reviews Miss Scandalous by Nicole Dunlap

Rating: ***** 5 stars

While I did not get to read book 1 Miss Nobody in the Shaw family series, I did love Miss Scandalous. I can honestly say that even if you do not get to read the first book, it is all neatly wrapped in pretty pink foil paper in Book 2. Nicole has made it very easy to understand the progression of storyline and characters into this new installment of the Shaw Family Series.

It wasn’t hard to grasp the oil & vinegar relationship between Charlene Shaw and her daughter Raven Shaw. Their relationship was very salty, very diluted and very destructive. The lack of trust and love was evident. And even when they tried to repair the damage, to forge together as a united family, the undercurrents of trust issues still kept them apart.

This isn’t your typical mother/daughter relationship. Raven reminded me of a prepubescent adolescent girl who needed a time-out at some points. Yes, she was a grown woman but traumatic events in her past have kept her mind as I had perceived it, in a young state. She tried her best to make decisions that would benefit herself and her young daughter Royael, but she was still pretty much a baby herself.

Although she made me very angry, drinking and being a hot mess when she should be attending to her child, this character Raven is still well defined because her flaws are imminent throughout the book. She has secrets, skeletons in her closet that we get a peak of but are still left holding our breath for more. I understood that she was still healing. Her worst enemy in this book is herself and instead of finding peace within her past and present issues, she is still using the grief of losing her beloved grandfather as an excuse to run amok.

Charlene Shaw I found to be a very double sided person. One minute I related to her and her love for her daughter, the next second she seemed very self centered. And I was not sure if that was because of her career as an actress, as if she was stuck in a role and couldn’t find herself again. She had the world at her feet and yet she still treated her family as if there was a brick wall between them.

Miss Scandalous is a very good story. What I have described here is only a small fraction of the drama and jaw dropping “Oh, no she didn’t” suspense that will make for a great read. I do not want to spoil the experience, but I will tell you I was so angry I couldn’t just vegetate in my bed and just read. My life could not stop so that I could get lost in this book, but oh man did I want to.

Great Job Nicole, this is exactly the kind of books I love to read and I enjoyed the experience immensely. I can honestly say I am biting my nails because I need the next installment, like yesterday lol!

Review:

"Miss Scandalous" by Nicole Dunlap was a wonderful well written novel with drama, family saga that was the sequel to 'Miss Nobody.' If you haven't had a chance to read it please do even thought "Miss Scandalous" does stand alone being a good read all by itself. Where do I start...well Ms. Dunlap has only done it again giving the reader a excellent read. We see from this novel that Raven, her grandmother(Annette) and granddaughter (Royael) have left Bellword, NC and moved to Dallas, TX. Get ready for more of a emotional ride with lots of twist and turns for Raven and her mother, Charlene. Charlene is now desiring a relationship with her daughter. Will they be able to reconcile after all of these years of abandonment? Raven finds out that Jon is living in Dallas(omg)... We see that Raven is trying to find a 'spiritual balance' but does she have a reason for this? What revenge did she have in her mind and for who? There were a lots of lies, scandals and secrets that run wild in this read from Rave, Charlene, Annette, Elise to Jon Dubois Jr that really kept "Miss Scandalous" read so very interesting. Yes, this was a real dysfunctional family(s) that had real life issues..coming mainly from the lack of love, trust and much deceit. All of the characters were well developed for this novel really giving the reader something to even think about long after the read. So, we have a mother-daughter situation along with a daughter and boyfriend(s) saga...and you have a intriguing novel. Will Raven finally find the peace that she really needed?...oh yes, there is more issues with Raven that her family will discover. Now, before I tell it all I will stop and say you must pick up the excellent sequel read "Miss Scandalous" to see the how, where, why and what of it all.

"Miss Scandalous" is a fast paced read that will keep you turning the pages till the end only to find the reader wanting the next sequel to this book: 'Miss Perfect.' Would I recommend "Miss Scandalous?" YES! and to the author: Well done Ms. Dunlap.

Dysfunctional Is The Word.

They are back, the wacky, crazy family I have grown to love. It’s four years later and they’re still up to their same tricks with some new ones. Raven is now a single mother of Royale and has decided to move to Dallas, Texas for a fresh start. Her granny goes with her to give her a hand. Unbeknownst to her the one person she running from, Jon Debios, is in Dallas too and it won't be long before their paths cross.

Jon is shocked to learn that Raven had their child and now wants to be a part of her life. He is still in love with Raven even after finding out they are related. He wants to find a way to make this work, but Raven is crazy and stuck on revenge. We learn things aren't always what they seem when family secrets are revealed.
,
Charlene Shaw (Raven's mom) wants to let the past lie and move forward with life. Will Raven be able to let the revenge in her head go and build a relationship with her mom and soon to be stepdad? It seems as if the Shaw women have been cursed with evil against them. Each one of the women has endured some type of trauma that has led to a life changing lie that has affected all their lives.

Ms. Dunlap does a good job tying in with the two books. No stone was left unturned. While things are a little crazy, I still want to see how things are going to end up in part three. I did see a few errors but nothing too bad and they didn't stop the flow of reading.

Miss Scanalous was a fast paced, well rounded book. Dunlap did it again--she sucked me into the world of the Shaw women, and left me exhausted from all the twists and turns. A fun read that left me wanting more....

When I read Miss Nobody, the first book in the Shaw Family Saga, by author Nicole Dunlap, I was not prepared for the ending. It shocked me. One of the protagonists was left alone with an unborn child that had not yet entered into the world. She was hit with the reality that the faith she had placed in one man had been quickly shattered by envy and hate.

The lives of these two young people, twisted and tainted with lies, were clothed in incest––but did the falsehood have validity? A curve ball made up of intrigue and murder was then thrown into the scene and an ocean literally separated the couple, and the reader is left hanging with the question, what happens next?

My conclusion to the first book was that Miss Nobody was excellently written, but I could not help thinking Ms. Dunlap had nailed herself into a corner. It is no secret among writers that it is difficult to pick up in a serial that has a dramatic ending in the first book and then build upon it, but Dunlap does an outstanding job of gathering up the pieces and weaving a thread of suspense that makes it hard to put the second book down.

Miss Scandalous, the second book in The Shaw Family Saga, is superbly written. Dunlap captures the reader’s attention by adroitly dealing with three protagonists, Annette, Charlene, and Ravin whose emotions are a continuous bath of hatred and love mixed with misunderstandings and untruths.

Miss Scandalous reveals the struggles between mother, daughter and granddaughter. It shows the effects that secrets and hidden truths have upon the past. More than that, it demonstrates the effectiveness of inner emotional destruction by living a lie. Lies will destroy as so poignantly pointed out in the relationships of some of Ms. Dunlap’s characters in Miss Scandalous.

Suspense builds up throughout the book, and I marveled at how Dunlap increased this tension by bringing in different antagonists at the appropriate time.

Mother, Daughter, Granddaughter. Three generations of women bound together by secret hurts and wounds that they dared not mention.

• Will Charlene open up to Annette?
• Is there peace for the tortured and disappointed teenage girl that lives inside of Ravin?
• Can reconciliation occur after forgiveness?

These are questions that run throughout Miss Scandalous, and Nicole Dunlap gives us the answers through her characters.

Again I come back to one of my favorite Bible Verse that so appropriately fits the first and second book of the Shaw Family:
Visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children unto the third and fourth generation.

Miss Scandalous by Miss Nicole Dunlap is an excellent book to read. It will hold you spellbound.

Congratulations Ms. Nicole Dunlap on a job well done. I applaud you.

Pat Garcia

In this new installment in the Shaw series, Miss Scandalous by Nicole Dunlap, readers are re-introduced to Raven Shaw, now a single-mother trying to forget her past. Raven has been through a lot especially finding out the man she loved was her half-brother, Jon. Who can get over that news? Raven moves to Dallas to start over and is doing well until she finds out that Jon Dubois is currently living in the same city. Raven believes she has gotten over losing Jon and the love she never received from her mother. When everything starts taking its toll on Raven, she can only see revenge and decides she will get it by any means necessary.

Jon Dubois still loves his half-sister, Raven and moving away has done nothing but make him want her more. When he finds out Raven kept the child they conceived he wants to be a part of their lives rather Raven accepts him or not. As time goes by Jon’s grandmother pays him a visit, which provides information that will change Raven and Jon’s life. Will she accept the news he has to share?

Charlene has tried everything to make up with her daughter, Raven. Charlene wants a relationship with her eldest daughter but Raven still keeps her at a distance. Raven wants Charlene to feel the pain she has felt all her life and what better place to hit her mother where it hurts then at her wedding. Charlene realizes that her past indiscretions have come back to bite her and even so she is determined to not give up on acquiring Raven’s love.

Miss Scandalous is about family, secrets and revenge. The main character allows her anger and need for revenge to take over, which hinders the love that everyone around tries to give. The author does a wonderful job allowing readers to see the progression in Raven’s behavior. She is not the innocent girl from Miss Nobody, but now a mischievous adult wanting revenge in Miss Scandalous. I appreciated the drama, the emotional rollercoaster and the acts of revenge that made the story come to life. I recommend this book to others.

Miss Scandalous by Nicole Dunlap
The Shaw Family Saga Book 2
This books starts out about four years after Miss Nobody ends. Raven Shaw is raising her daughter, Royael, with Granny Annette. Raven is still full of anger and revenge. It’s hard for her to get past having a friendship with any guy because she always compares them to Jon Dubois. And there are the nightmares because of the crime she committed and has to live with.

Charlene has been clean all this time and is going to marry Damien Wright. She still lives with the guilt of leaving Raven and continues to desire a relationship with her daughter. She is building a relationship with her mother for the first time in twenty some years but even though Raven talks with Damien, they still have a long road ahead of them.

Jon Dubois is the poster boy for his grandfather’s hotels. Rich and living the life. Thinking all those years ago that Raven aborted their child, he seems to have left all of that behind him. But the past never stays buried.

So many lies and deceit twine within the lives of the characters. And they believed them all these years. Nicole writes so much emotion in her books that if she don’t have the reader crying with a character then she might have you wanting to jump in the book and pound on someone. It really shows that when unforgiveness and anger is kept inside, it’s the person holding onto it that is damaged most. I find myself on an emotional roller-coaster along with them because so many of the issues are real life. Which to me speaks of the incredible talent of this author. I highly recommend reading Miss Nobody first so that you can have the clear picture of what is happening in Charlene and Raven’s lives.

Welcome Back

In “Miss Nobody,” Raven found out the man she loved, Jon Dubois, was her half-brother. She is now a single mother. She moved to Dallas to start anew and raise her daughter, Royael. Little does she know, Jon is in Dallas. He's still in love with her. When he learns about Raven keeping their child, he's determined to be a part of their lives. Jon's grandmother, Estella, comes for a visit. Is there a motive for her visit?

Charlene, Raven's mother, has been clean and is now married to Damien Wright. She wants a relationship with her daughter. Just when she thinks everything is good, a bomb drops. Will the two ever have that relationship?

“Miss Scandalous” is the second installment in this series. Nicole Dunlap doesn't disappoint. The story oozes with lies and betrayal. The dysfunctional families make the story flow well. We are introduced to a couple of new characters. Dunlap is great with character development. You're given enough background to get a feel for them. If you like drama, this is definitely the book for you.

Mrs. Dunlap does it, yet again, with the continual family saga of the Shaw family. It is time for Raven and Charlene to face the demons that entrap them into the vicious cycles of separation. As Charlene shows advances towards progress with her daughter, Raven saunters between forgiveness versus betrayal and truth versus deception. Will she heed to healing? Or will she fold to the pain that accompanies the process of it? This sequel will pull you even closer, upfront and personal. You will experience the dramatic confrontations created by their pasts, but be hopeful of a resolute and promising future for the Shaw family. Get ready for a rollercoaster of unquenched, raw emotions that will keep you thirsting for more.... Excited about the next round of dramatic thrills with Miss Perfect...#ready

"Miss Scandalous: Miss Scandalous Shaw Family Saga, Book 2" by Nicole Dunlap sees single mother Raven struggling with pain, abandonment, lust for revenge and all day life. Meanwhile, the mother who abandoned her, is getting married and wants to put the past to rest.
Rape and incest have left their mark on the Shaw family and bring a huge range of problems, intrigue and emotions.
This is an unpredictable roller coaster of a book with strong character development that has cleverly set up its plot and the resulting conflicts. It contains elements of a good drama series and explosive soap operas but also pulls some heart strings with well positioned moments of reflection.
Raven and her mother are some complex characters, not very likeable at times but well drawn.
This should please fans of family drama easily.

Miss Scandalous: Miss Scandalous Shaw Family Saga, Book 2
By Nicole Dunlap

This is the story of three Shaw women, Annette, Charlene and Raven. Grandmother, Mother and Daughter. It tells of the relationship between the three women. Filled with emotion and secrets, secrets & more secrets.

Miss Scandalous is a great read with true to life conflict and love between mother & daughter. Fast paced page turner. I could not put it down.

I probably should have read book one first, but I have no problem reading out of order. I will certainly read the others in this series.
Ms. Dunlap sure knows how to pen a fantastic story!

Miss Scandalous has many twists and turns, which kept me hooked from page one. Raven is so deliciously vindictive but vulnerable, as she strives to be the mother to her child that her mother wasn't to her. Dunlap beautifully paints the pain of a daughter's rejection and the fall-out for all that it causes. The story she tells is dramatic but real and never overly melodramatic. The book is lengthy but worth the read.

Nicole Dunlap, excellent job. 'Miss Scandalous' is brimming with anger, deceit and emotionally damaged people who are full of fear and uncertainty. Taking this journey, you will see that each character has the opportunity to learn from past mistakes and the struggle it takes to make the right decision in the end, knowing that if you allow fear to rule your life you can never move forward.

Buy the book and read it for yourself. This is the kind of stuff movies and miniseries are made of. I am just not happy to have to wait for the next book in the series. I had no problem keeping up with each frustrated character. I received a call from North Carolina, because I was so caught up in the story line I didn't answer because for a minute I thought it was Jon, lol!

Nicole has done it again! This book is hot from beginning to end! Miss Scandalous is an excellent sequel to Miss Nobody. This book is very dramatic and keeps you wanting to read more and more. I absolutely loved this book! It kept me on the edge the entire time! Nicole truly has the gift of creating in-depth characters within her books. She is such a talented author and her excellent writing skills and vivid imagery bring so much life into the story. I have been impatiently waiting to find out if there would be any hope for Jon and Raven and have been wondering if Raven would ever be able to forgive and get a chance to begin a mother-daughter relationship with Charlene. This book was really an emotional roller coaster with some unexpected twists and turns. You will find yourself becoming more and more attached to the characters and more involved in their relationships. Once your finished reading Miss Scandalous you will be looking forward to and wondering what the next book will bring.

Nicole delivers great work time and time again and I already can’t wait for the next voyage into her amazing story lines. I can't get enough of this story and I want MORE! Do not start reading until you have some time on your hands. You will not want to put it down! I am and will forever be a supporter and fan. I look forward to reading the next book!

First Miss Nobody took me for a ride of hope, sadness and mischief. Next, Miss Scandalous evokes the passion of forbidden love, deception and the yearning to do better. Raven is constantly at battle with her mind and her heart. Wanting the best for her daughter, Royeal, all the while plotting against the man who helped bring her life to fruition.

The exotic, well rounded and established Jon, Raven’s Love, is who she desires but at what cost? Choosing Love or Revenge is her plight and living with the consequences is only the beginning.
We also get to see the evolution of a mother/daughter relationship that was never really established. The disfunction of this family is being ushered into another Generation of women and Nicole Dunlap leaves the door open for either a happy ending or a sad and unfortunate resolution.

As a reader, I want to learn something new or experience something different when I read a book. I want laugh at a joke I've never heard, cry at a situation I could never imagine or, wonder what I would do in that situation. Miss Scandalous delivers on all points. You won’t be able to see what Raven will do next.
I’m just glad she’s fictional, or is she?

I just love when you finish the second book in a series, and it's just as good as the first. That's the case with Miss Scandalous. Raven and Charlene are back again, with more drama and heartache. This book sucks you in from the beginning, and once again I couldn't put it down. I love how Nicole's writing and characters are so real. You feel a wide range of emotions when reading about their life, and wonder if things will ever be "normal" for them, after all they've gone through. I highly recommend this book and the first in the series, Miss Nobody. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series!

I rate this book 4.5 out of 5 stars!

Miss Scandalous" is an emotional ride with so much drama & pain; happiness is short-lived, sadness is almost a daily promise. I initially felt sorry for Raven, but empathy towards her is gone. She has got me so angry with her nonsense. I want her to be happy, yet all she craves is a pity party. Charlene & Annette have come a long way in their relationship, Raven needs to catch up.

I needed to rant a bit about this emotional read. Nicole cooked up another superb read! The Shaw family series is a must read for anyone that enjoys the up & downs of drama. And boy there is plenty of drama!

Thank you for the loving ending Nicole - although I know the third book will ignite the series once more.

You will love this story! The follow-up to Miss Nobody; this book picks up about 4 years later. We get to see read the outcome of what happens to Charlene, Jon, and of course Raven.

I gave it a 4 out of 5 mainly because I found some of the story repeated over and over. I found myself skipping pages when Raven went into her rants. The characters come off the pages and you feel like your in the room with them as there sharing there souls with each other.

There were short reminders about everyone history, but I would say read the first for a clear understanding of everyone relationship.

The Shaw women still make me cry, laugh, and gasp out loud as they get themselves into trouble over and over again but still have the capacity to love with all their hearts. I really had fun reading Miss Scandalous, and I can't wait to read what Dunlap has in store for us next.
