Outside the City #3

Redemption of the Beast

Rate this book
Two men surrounded by misunderstanding and danger must find the strength to show each other and the world that they belong together and will fight for their bond against those who wish to destroy it.

Micah Sanders has been in love with the Warrior Sashan ever since he was a boy. But the strong, quiet Katrian shies away from him, making Micah believe his weak body and childhood illnesses are keeping them apart.

Sashan is a troubled Katrian who has lost his way. Emotionally scarred, he hides from the world and the one man who could complete him, feeling unworthy of his mate.

When mistakes are made that cause Micah to be kidnapped, will Sashan find the strength to rescue his mate, discover what the City plans next for the Katrian people, and learn who is the monstrous traitor behind all their troubles? Most importantly, will a seemingly unworthy beast finally find the redemption he seeks in the arms of his loving mate?

Amylea Lyn

Amylea Lyn is a little odd, a lot weird, and just plain strange. At least that's what everyone tells her. She lives in Nevada, filling her laptop with too many stories to count and trying to ignore the yells of her football-obsessed siblings in the background. Most days, Amylea can be found sitting in her favorite chair after work, bugging those around her for fun tidbits to make her stories more interesting. When she's not writing, Amylea spends her time daydreaming her fantasies while talking to herself without realizing it, experimenting with different baked dishes that she force feeds her brothers, and plotting ways to get back at her psychotic cat. All in all, she likes to think of herself as pretty normal... even if it's only by her own standards.

This story is part of a series and must be read in order. Sashan has stayed clear from the Katrian village out of shame, only going back when he has to or to check up on his mate Micah, the mate he feels deserves better. Micah has wanted Sashan for as long as he can remember, but the big Katria always avoids him, so now Micah decides to take fate into his own hands. When Micah is kidnapped and severely injured Sashan has to face his fears and accept what fate has offered him.

This is a fantastic continuation of Outside The City, it begins 15years after the Dome has fallen and stays with the storyline of the Outsiders and the City Dwellers, and giving us added information about the truth behind the City. Micah has longed for Sashan since he realised he liked boys, now 21 his brother Lucah convinces him to provoke Sashan into a reaction, but it doesn’t work out as planned and Micah is kidnapped. Sashan has steered clear of Micah because he feels tainted by his past, when Micah is taken he has to put aside his fears and claim Micah as his mate, having to trust in Micah not to turn from him. The kidnapping reveals a traitor in their midst’s and a secret that shakes the foundations of all the Outsiders.

I loved this story, not only do we get to see previous books characters; it also introduced new characters in the shape of the Wolfric shifters, and gives us a surprising twist near the end which opens us the storyline to the Wolfric shifters as well. Micah is a wonderful character who suffers greatly in this story; Sashan is the typical alpha male, thinking he is protecting those he loves with his distance, but both characters together can heal each other from their pasts. They are hot together, complement each other in personalities and troubled with their own fears but determined to do what is best for the other

I really enjoyed the storyline, plot and surprises thrown our way, I found the addition of the Wolfric clan wonderful and I think they complement the Katria wonderfully, I am hoping to see more of them in the future… maybe a story for Alpha Jethoro *pretty please*. This storyline has become more evolved which means that we can expect some more wonderful books in this series… at the least I expect Lucah’s and maybe Callum’s stories, with the hope of others **chants* Jethoro, Jethoro Jethoro*.

I recommend this to those who love shifters, science fiction, surprise twists, hot sex, great characters, danger, soul searching and a very happy ending that leaves us with a hint of the next book.

SO Many questions are answered in this book! I just loved Sashan's story and it was awesome to get so many outstanding questions about him, the city and the high counselor answered. And the High Counselor finally gets what's coming to him!

Awesome book and was an awesome series. However, it just stopped with this book. Unfortunately it's a cliffhanger. I am not able to locate the next book so I am under the impression that there isn't another. I really enjoy her writing but it appears she doesn't write anymore or maybe her books are just r e a l l y far apart. :(
Very disappointed that I can't finish this series.

Unimpressed.
In this book everyone turns stupid. Past protagonists, current ones, future ones, the obvious, one-dimensional villains – everyone.
More than that, issues of logic crop up.

Given that Raine and Ash’s daughter looks like Raine, I suppose it was Raine who knocked the woman up for their second kid. I thought the point of getting her pregnant was to pass Ash’s genes on? Plus Raine most emphatically said he would never be able to have sex with a woman…

Also, how can Tyler’s hair be black, when all the humans from the city have pale hair?

All of the conflicts between the main characters are awfully artificial again. At least there’s plot besides to focus on, although this sours when the lack of sense takes over.

Hm, if there’s ever a justification for rape, this would probably be it. Still feels utterly wrong to witness, though, and making it into something sensual does not help at all.

And ah, jeez, I don’t believe this. I do not believe that Sashan only started lusting after the boy he knew was his mate the day the latter turned eighteen. Sorry, but no way. Especially in a society like the Katrian, so much closer to nature. They also do grow older so that might be an influence – but I deny the idea that our magical number of eighteen has any bearing on them.

Love gushes forth, and yet these two admitted previously that they don’t actually know one another. The scene is kind of nice, though.

This author sure does not pull her punches when it comes to the extent of abuse; although it does not seem to be a staple with her as is with some authors. Or so I thought until more and more rape cropped up in this happy story and I remembered the rape-fest that was book one. So, no. While that one earlier scene here can pass, the rest of it does nothing but treat a serious subject like a trope.

Public orgasm as a sedative is… uh…

Sashan really isn’t the smartest cookie in the jar. Sashan still does not get it.

I also do not appreciate that all the “mates” aka the smaller, younger partners, increasingly turn infantile – naive and giggly, given to hysterics and truly foolish decisions. Hm. They’re all exclusively bottoms, too, aren’t they?

Allow me to go on a tangent for a second. [Hidden because it's not really related to this book.]
Back to the book.

I guess when the heroes are idiots, the villains have to be idiots too. In this case our long-time and known villain has to expose himself because the good guys can’t put one and one together.
Jeez, this annoys me. Quite honestly, Micah is the embodiment of TSTL – not only at that point but throughout the entire story.

Oh, please. are behind it all? Suddenly I am losing all my remaining (already feebly) interest in this series.

As for the happy end?
Twists and events that change things fundamentally in each book are great. But if reactions to them do not make sense, they fall apart.

So I’m not happy at all. I’ll go sulk now.

While I enjoyed this one I still like the second book better. Micah and Sashan are a great couple - both with broken spirit's. That they can heal together and through each other is a blessing. It is a very sweet romance - and, at times, felt too much like Micah was a girl. I don't mean feminine I mean the female in the relationship. It was hard to reconcile that, for me, with the vision of a young man I had in my head. He did very stereo-typically female things occasionally which somehow threw me out the story a bit.

We do learn more about The Dome and the visit to the Wolfkin is fascinating - and provides quite a lot of opportunity for the future. I must admit that I was looking forward to Micah's story a great deal - because the abuse/broken/damaged H/h is a fave trope of mine. I did enjoy it very much - and I am greatly looking forward to Lucah's story given who his mate is - and also Callum.

I'm quite torn about Amylea Lyn's work. On one hand, I enjoy her books. Her stories are creative and I get very attached to her characters. On the other hand, Ms Lyn's actual writing skills are underdeveloped. I can't help cringing when she over explains her characters thoughts or forces us to read multiple descriptions of the same event. Also, her heroes tend to be a bit obtuse and everyone's a bit one dimensional.
Overall, Ms Lyn's books are the ones I read when I can't find anything better. It's a shame really because she could be one of the greats.

Sashan was a great character. Micah not so much. I liked him for the most part but he behaved like a little kid. I have nothing against behaving like a kid when the character is 10 years old.
Micah was 20 if I'm not mistaken.

The story had rather obvious plot and anyone can guess who's the bad guy.

But I liked it. It was pleasant to read. Just not a book I would read again and again because the story is so thrilling and I can't get enough of it.

Okay, so I read all three of these today. I can honestly say that the concept and and the world building for the shifters was very interesting. I liked that part. The part that I didn't like was the author's styling of writing. For me there was way too much angst, and it felt (to me) that I was reading about a bunch of girls more so than men. It just left me with a 'meh' feeling all around.

I really loved this story! I don't think I've ever been so weepy whilst reading a book, some parts were just heartbreaking but I wouldn't change one word! I think it's one of my favourite books I've read so far and I'm really looking forward to 'Lucah & Tamilo's' story!

I really enjoyed this, more than the second one. I think that Micah and Sashan are just perfect for each other, and I really liked the pace and story in this one. Definitely looking forward to more, I hope the wait won't be very long!

There was too much horrible scenes for the characters and less happy scenes that I was left with low spirits after. Not to mention the looming dark future still ahead for the Katrian people. I need to read something light and fluffy after this.

I really hated the dubious consent, and even more so since it compounded by a spiritual in the universe of the book. The incredible idiocy of most characters does not excuse it.
