Wyoming Legacy #2

Roping the Wrangler

Rate this book
The spinster schoolmarm makes a match...

Teacher Sarah Hansen has always wanted a family of her own. But a cowboy is the last man she'd consider — especially one who humiliated her in their childhood schoolroom. Oscar White is back in her life, and all grown up. He's different than she remembers but that doesn't mean she can trust him.

When three motherless girls are shunned by the community, Sarah and Oscar are the ones who step up to take on their care. As they work together, Sarah discovers that Oscar isn't afraid of hardship — and that he makes quite a family man. Can the soft heart Sarah has been hiding tame the wrangler?

Hmmm, well it was a good book... but I honestly didn't enjoy it. Is that weird???
Anyways, I listened to this one and the reader; Laura Jennings, did a wonderful job.
Now I loved the books 3 & 4 in this series, so I will def read others, but this one will never be a fave and I doubt I will revisit it.

This is a clean romance between Oscar, the 'lovelorn man with no balls', and Sarah the 'taken for granted' schoolmarm.

Sarah is 24 and spent most of her youth so far, caring for her two younger sisters. Now that they're married, she works as a schoolmarm.
Her boss (who is a nasty judgmental controlling sh*t) has hired a man, whom she doesn't remember fondly, to train his new horse. That would be, Oscar.

Oscar is known as 'The Horseman' because of his way with horses. Sarah is deathly afraid of horses. Another problem in their finding love, is that Oscar was the source of her being teased in school. He called her a shrew in a very public way and the name stuck. Did her sisters stand up for her??? Apparently not. In fact, Oscar was sweet on her little sister Sally for a while back then. SOooo right off I'm not a fan of Oscar (or her sisters).

When they meet again does he apologize for being a douche when they were teens?? Nope. Doesn't even regret it. In fact he never apologizes. Like that kind of childhood scarring means nothing. To make matters worse, what does he do when they meet again? He laughs when another man in town warns him that Sarah is on the hunt for a husband. The man didn't mean it in a friendly way, as he is NOT a friend of Sarah's. Oscar jokes back that she's getting a little long in the tooth... KNOWING that she is listening, cause she's walking right in front of them. And by joking with the man he is saying that it's OK to talk about Sarah like that.

Now I admit I was a thin skinned kid (like Sarah) who go teased/bullied in Elementary. So I just don't understand that kind of thing. I can see teasing a close friend. But finding humour at another person's weaknesses... that's not teasing. That's just mean.

There are 3 little girls in town that are dirt poor and their step father is a useless drunk, but nobody in town will help them because Sarah's Boss won't let them. So Sarah and Oscar step up to take that burden. This I loved about Oscar. (But that was about it.) Sure he's a nice guy to others, but he never did anything in the book until the very end to show Sarah that he thought she was special. Sarah deserved to have someone (anyone ffsake) go out on a limb for her.

imho; He cared more about his own feelings getting hurt, than hurting hers.

And POOR POOR SARAH!!! For Pities Sake! She just never gets a break
The whole town takes her for granted, calling her Bossy and laughing at her behind her back. The Boss and his son treat her like dirt. Oscar teases her in a mean way. Even the elder of the girls she wants to help, looks at her like she's sh*t on her shoe.

Honestly it was excruciating!

Finally in the last 10%
...But by then I had no warm fuzzies left for anyone (except the h of course).

So yeah, the story was interesting, and the characters were well drawn, the setting well researched, but as a romance, it was disappointing!!

I loved Roping the Wrangler! The hero, Oscar, was close to my perfect hero--funny, generous, protector of women and children, kind even to those who are not, handsome, and even though he had his own emotional wounds, he willingly helped others through their troubling times. Lacy Williams is skilled at creating a fiction world set in the Old West with her vivid descriptions, realistic dialect, and intriguing stories that fit the time period well. She is racing to the top of my favorite author's list.

Sarah Hansen never forgot the cruel words uttered by the frustrated young man . Yes, she'd acted like a shrew, but she was so young and trying to look out for her sisters. There was no cause for him to make the charge in front of all her classmates. And now, years later when he returns as the fabled "horseman" all her insecurities return with him.

Oscar White used to be sweet on Sarah's sister and had no use for the bossy mother hen who tried to act so mature, but when his job brings him to the ranch where the school teacher boards, he can't help but notice the change in her. Or maybe it's him who's changed.

What I love most about Williams' writing is that she excels at turning ordinary, daily tasks into acts of devotion. No hero shines as bright as Oscar when he steps in to help some of Sarah's disadvantaged students. I don't want to give any spoilers, but this story is full of heart and devotion.

A great read.

A wonderful series

This is a heart warming book. The prejudice of one man against 3 little girls will bring tears to your eyes. The compassion and caring of a school teacher and a cowboy will keep you turning pages.

This is a nice story but the editing is atrocious. I usually can skim past the awkward sentences and misspellings but when a book makes me read a paragraph over and over to make sense of it, I'm forced back into reality. A prime example the testimony of a brother regarding a dead man -
“Almost immediately, things started happening around my brother’s homestead. Sabotage. There is always prejudice against the red man from the whites, but this seemed to be something more. Finally, my brother’s wife confessed. She had rejected the advances of a man and married my father instead. The man was crazy with jealousy and she thought perhaps he was the cause of the troubles at their home."

A below average chaste western romance but a good palate cleanser after my last book of murder, orgies, and cannibalism,

After reading Courted by a Cowboy (a novella), I couldn’t wait to dive in and read Oscar’s story in Roping the Wrangler. I was not disappointed. This book is full of strife due to misconceptions about others, things that have happened in the past, children who need love and care and a town that is ruled by a mean-spirited man.

Sarah and Oscar have both lived lives where grief and loss played a major part in their upbringing. Although they each had a different experience than the other, their pasts prepared in them the caring hearts that would be needed to help little girls that no one else wanted.

The author wrote a beautiful story, with some characters that will warm your heart and others that will just make you so mad! Very well done.

I received this book through a Spine Poetry contest held on Regina Jenning’s Facebook page and was not required to write a review, but happily do so.

I have read a couple from the series, and decided I needed to read them all! I recently realized just how much I love the way this author writes! She has a wonderful way of sucking me into a story. Once I start, it is torture if I cannot finish in one sitting!
This book tugged at my heartstrings! I am so in love with hero and heroine! Now heroes I always love, but to get me so in love with a heroine, that's skill! :)
Can't wait to get to the rest of this series!

A cute story, very sweet. The kind of thing I could recommend to my mother-in-law or that my father could read over my shoulder and not be horrified. One thing I really appreciate about Williams' writing is her subtle infusion of the "inspirational" elements. I never feel like she's beating me over the head with The God Stick. Looking forward to more stories set in this universe.

So Many Orphans

What a special love story. Two young people cheated by life of the basic need every child should be assured of. The love, security and safety of a Mom and Dad and extended family. Someone to fill in the places of the loss of one or the other. Oscar was so lucky he found a Dad when he had none. He appreciated what it was like to be alone and afraid with no hope; so he saw himself in these three little girls. They tried to not be noticed or seen because of the shame and stigma of being so poor and unwanted. Sarah just like Oscar was an orphan and had to provide for her two little sisters so she understood the fix these girls were in. Her hands were tied since her boss had an unreasonable hatred for the girls or their families and refused any and all help for them. Oscar and Sarah were determined they would help all they could and still keep their jobs.

I purchased a copy of the clean historical western romance Roping the Wrangler (Wild Wyoming Hearts Book 6){Wind River Hearts book 6}{Wyoming Legacy book 2} by Lacy Williams and this review was given freely.
Prejudice, jealousy, alcoholism, a fear of abandonment, a desire for acceptance are combined with an instant attraction romance.
Former Bear Creek resident, Lost Hollow's school teacher Sarah Hansen, is pleasantly surprised and at the same time greatly challenged when she is reunited with her sister Sally's former boyfriend and her former school adversary, Oscar White aka the Horseman, who has come to town to train a colt for her controlling and outspoken boss Mr. Allen.

The two main characters, Sarah and Oscar, have similar backgrounds in the sense that they felt betrayed or unloved due to deaths or incapacity of parents and others who were to look after them. This makes it hard for each of them to actually trust other people, let alone give their heart to someone. Thus, they are both reluctant to express their feelings of interest, let alone love, and that causes a variety of missteps and misunderstandings.

They are both rather likable characters; both are trying to help others and do the right things. The three children that they care about have their own baggage. The oldest mirrors some of Sarah's hangups, particularly mistrust of people.

I felt the ending was contrived. The bad guy is unmasked, but it was awkward. How did Sitting Dog Smith just happen to find that piece of evidence with all that snow on the ground? Other than that, it was nice story, fun to read, but soon forgettable like so many of the stories and this genre.

The Saga Continues

This is such a great book! Really none of the books in the series have disappointed and they tend to just get better and better! I haven't read all the books in order and even though sometimes that means there may be a few spoiler alerts, it has not for a second diminished my love for each! The Horseman and the Schoolteacher are sure to make you cringe, swoon, and hope! Your heart will be burdened by the prejudice of a town following a bully and the heroic individuals who try to fight for the underdogs! Couldn't put it down, read from front to back in one day... not to get to the dishes!

I really enjoyed this clean, sweet historical version of an enemies to lovers type romance. I loved reading this story because I’ve read several in the series, and not in the numerical order. The hero in this book is one of Jonas and Penny’s adopted sons. I loved his parents’ story and I loved his. While the ebook I read had two serious technical mishaps, they didn’t pull me out of the story or shatter my enjoyment. Also, I think my e-copy might’ve been a promotional thing, so maybe that’s been cleared up. If you’re looking for a sweet, historical romance which is clean, and has a few inspirational elements, this could be a good choice.

Oscar, Jonas White's first adopted son (eldest) from Boston that took the journey to Bear Creek with Jonas and Breanna. This is Oscar's story as a grown man with his talent with horses is hired to train a horse in Long Hollow where he reacquaints himself with a former school girl Sarah who now is a teacher. 3 girls also revolve in their story. Reading the issue about the girls, I questioned myself what side of the fence would I stand on and do I judge in my community by influence of others?

Sarah is a schoolteacher at a one-room school. She wants to get married and have a family of her own but she's not interested in a cowboy thinking his life style is too dangerous. Oscar is a horse trainer and is training one of the horses for Sarah's boss. They met in the past but he thought her bossy because he did not know what she was going through. They try to help 3 little girls that have lost their father. There mother was dead already. Can they help each other as they help the girls or will each be to set in their ways and miss the chance?

Sweet, western, cowboy period romance

Romance, period, western, sweet; series but stand alone read
The school teacher and the cowboy/horse wrangler was a lovely sweet, romance. Oscar was a great character, and perfect hero. Our school teacher, dedicated, kind, caring and gradually falling for the generous, handsome, kind cowboy. The girls, the school, all the small moments helped bring the two of them together, and helped them find love and a foundation for a family. Sweet, lovely story.

Sweet Historical Romance

Wow! So much pain in these adults, who were hurt as children, and the children they're falling in love with who keep getting hurt over and over again!
But this unlikely couple understand the girls' pain, as it resembles their childhoods a little too closely! I love how the more often they help the children, the more they fall for each other. But their different yet similar pasts haunt them and in these two adults, they do everything they can think of to protect themselves from further hurt! What a hard story, yet a story of hope and healing!! Just beautiful!!

The Schoolteacher and The Wrangler

Sarah thought that she never wanted to marry a cowboy. She had known Oscar when a young girl. He had called her "bossy". Now they realized that they'd each grown up. Sarah was teacher to the 2 young girls who had to bring their baby sister to school with them. When she risked her job to care for them, he wanted to do something for them, too.

Fun storyline with a cowboy that takes on cooking and washing diapers to help care for three little girls whose step-father is a drunk and doesn't want anything to do with the girls. He even straps the baby onto himself with a bedsheet so that he can plow the fields. Sarah is a teacher but has no domestic skills or housekeeping skills but loves those three little girls. Great story about love and trust and bringing a family together with insurmountable odds.

Sweetest of the series (so far)

Rather than give you more about the story (the blurb and other reviews have that covered), I'll tell you why I gave 5 stars. This story works well both within the series and as a stand alone. I fell in love with these characters right away (they're quite easy to love) and feel the plot, pace and ending was well executed. Although I've just read it on KU, I will be purchasing this one to read again.

Sarah and Oscar

I love found family stories. This one was fantastic and was a perfect way for Oscar to get the family he has always longed for. Sarah was a bit prickly at the start, but was also so relatable. The young girls were incredibly sweet- even if not all of them trusted they were safe right away.

It was great getting to see some of the White brothers and Jonas again. I can’t wait for Maxwell’s story.

Roping the Wrangler

This was a really great story. Oscar had travelled to Lost Hope to train a young colt for a man. He met a woman , Sarah, who was the school teacher in this town. He knew Sarah from when they went to school together. There were three children, whose step father was the town drunk. Their mother died and they had little care. This story is about their struggle and finding a place called home, and finding happiness. Enjoy

It took me a lot longer than usual to finish this book. It was often slow and dry and I kept wanting to stop reading it but I also wanted to see how it ended. I’m glad I kept reading but it was disappointing after all. I’m usually easily frustrated by writing errors and this was full of them, with omitted words, too many repeating words in the same sentence, confusing names and locations… I usually enjoy this author’s books and will continue reading her books.

Entertaining and Thought provoking

I enjoy stories where the characters get second chances. As a public school teacher, I love the one-room school adventures. I enjoy the way the characters developed. Too many pages of self-doubt. Sad childhood issues. The mean guy gets what he deserves. They overcome fears. I look forward to the next in series.

one of my fave cowboy stories ever!

It’s such a sweet ( clean) story of how misconceptions and prejudices, or past experiences, affect relationships. The fun part of the novel is that we see how those things can be broken through and a true love can blossom. Plus there are so many moments all of us can identify with. Awesome story.

Good book

This was the first book I read in this series and I really enjoyed it. If you haven't read the others, the storyline is very easy to follow. I really liked the characters and their storyline. I wished the author had given us an ending with Mr. Allen, that was left unfinished.

Really Great Series

I'm so enjoying this series and getting to know all the characters. I totally enjoyed Oscar and Sarah's story. Neither thought they would find love but it slipped in when least expected. Throw in 3 little girls and you have a captivating read that I read straight through. A really great read.
