Think Like a Lawyer Don't Act Like One

Rate this book
Think Like a Lawyer Don't Act Like One provides strategies to solve conflicts. Based on principles, research, and real life examples ranging from Harvard University, Mikhail Gorbatsjov, two kissing boxers, and Sun Tze to John Rambo, Think Like a Lawyer Don't Act Like One can be used when dealing with grumpy police officers, angry neighbors, unwilling debtors, nasty lawyers, and other conflict seekers.

Each strategy is thoroughly tested and can be used at the kitchen table, on the street, and in the boardroom. All seventy-five rules are illustrated in a funny way.

This book should be retitled as “Basic Advices That Could Be Easily Found On The Internet”. Full of clichés that are being passed off as strategies. One example: #27 KISS - Keep It Short and Simple, spread across two pages. I mean, come on.

Seriously, the quotes on my Pinterest board are more useful and in-depth than this book.

Mostly wasteful and tacky images to convey the bullet points. All just compiled from better sources.

Although the points would make sense, the explanations given are very poor.

Eg, Count to ten. Explanation: harvard school says count to ten.

Another eg of a cat assault to convey a point was really off-putting as well.

Better off going through a twitter thread instead.

This book disappointed. While I liked the points the author made and the photos included, I thought the examples were bad and refutable. Additionally, I found that almost all examples where women were involved were negative. It's hard to relate to a book where you see such poor representation of yourself. If you read this book, get it from the library. You don't want it on your shelf. And if you really want some guidance on how to think, I suggest Robert Green's "50 Laws of Power".

A book that would entail your discernment will always be valuable than a spoon-feeding-rhetoric. this book is so chic that it only took 75 title pages. It was well bound and fascinating to read and subtle reminder.

Very generic advice the only thing that’s entertaining is the engaging format of the books aesthetic. Other than that, the actual writing is meh…

Good negotiation principles--for attorneys and non-attorneys alike. Some of the suggestions are intellectual property-specific (the author specializes in copyright law), but the majority are generally applicable. The author succeeds in making what is often a dull subject into something entertaining, though this book is definitely edgy at times. A quick read that is worth revisiting.

Interesting, very easy read. Most of it, though, is reiteration or interpolation of Machiavelli.

Honestly, one of the better books on law I've ever read. This book highlights the importance of ethics and sociology in Law. I would recommend it to anyone trying to understand Law.
