This was a decent read. I liked how organized it was and how the authors compared teaching to the hero's journey. They provided a lot of examples and strategies for k-12 educators to consider, complete with connections to learning standards and examples.
I do think they gloss over race even though they continuously mention culturally responsive teaching and they do not address socioeconomic factors at all. For instance, the inappropriately recommend using the "Where I'm From" poem with students to allow them to express their cultures, while not explaining how students experiencing trauma may not have the same positive experience writing the poem.
