Twin brothers, Gannon and Wyatt, are invited to the Great Bear Rainforest in British Columbia, Canada, to search for the "spirit bear", a rare albino bear said to be the Spirit of the Rainforest. But when their parents go missing, the brothers must trek into the wilderness alone to search for their parents and uncover a plot to destroy the delicate rainforest ecosystem. They face danger from the predators of the forest, wolves, black bears, and grizzlies, and it will take all their wilderness survival skills to make it out alive.

I loved this second book in the series! There is even more action in this one, and the plot really keeps you in suspense! The writing is in a journal style, as the two brothers write about their experiences and adventures.

I liked seeing how the brothers get annoyed with each other, but ultimately respect each other, and take care of one another with true brotherly love. They have some great character development through the story.

The rainforest is so vividly described, and there are a lot of interesting facts about the area and anecdotes from the natives and explorers. There's so much good information in this book, but it's woven into the exciting story so that you don't even realize you are learning! And I loved reading about the survival skills the twins learn, because the reader learns right along with them.

I would recommend these books for readers aged 7-15, but anyone interested in travel, exploration, and adventure would enjoy reading them!

What a fun adventure series. I learned a lot and it was exciting book too. Had no idea what a spirit bear was. I also did not know where the Great Bear Rainforest was either. I know I will be on the lookout for more books with Gannon and Wyatt in the future. This is a clean read that is full of danger, travel, wildlife and great scenery too.

Twins Gannon and Wyatt and their parents get offered to come on a trip. they have to leave the next day to come. Their family loves to travel. So their family was going to join Captain Colin to take some famous environmental scientist to study the Great Bear Rainforest and see the spirit bear and his habitat than to volunteer at a whale research lab and help repairing it after storm damage.

They were told about bears and what to do by their guide Alu. She was a member of the First Nation people of Canada. They were not expecting a petite teenager.
The first area they went to they had no luck the only bears they saw had died in their den of starvation.

The Captain Colin and Dr. Brezner went to shore to search out the spirit bear and they disappeared. Neither radio a problem. Gannon and Wyatt's parents took the smaller boat out to find them and more trouble happened.

I read the book in one setting did not want to put it down. It was a exciting read. I was surprised to find out that their is really a Gannon and Wyatt that travel around with their parents and helped come up with the stories. You can even follow them online the website is at bottom of this post. I know I want to see their photos. I think this book can be read and enjoyed by a wide audience.
Makes me want to go exploring. At least to a zoo.

I was given this ebook to read and asked to give honest review of it by Netgalley.

Gannon and Wyatt are off on another amazing adventure, filled with danger, excitement and yes, more learning experiences! Travels with Gannon and Wyatt: Great Bear Rain Forest by Patti Wheeler and Keith Hemstreet follows previous books in the series seen through the eyes of these brothers as they experience more of what the world has to offer firsthand.

It would be wonderful if all children could experience the thrill of other lands, the danger, and actually walk on the soil of places like Great Bear Rain Forest, but for them to read about this amazing journey through the unique “eyes” of Gannon and Wyatt is an experience in itself. Geared for middle grade readers, the magnetic pull and the pacing are perfect, not too dark, not too drawn out, not overly embellished, once again, a wonderful way to hook young readers on the joy of books and a great learning tool for expanding one’s horizons!

Gannon and Wyatt are real twin brothers who go on adventures with their mother, father and a team of others. This trip is to the Great Bear Rainforest where the boys look forward to seeing whales, bears and the rare white Spirit Bear.
Along with the fun and learning about lands far and wide, there is a danger that must be addressed to all young explorers. This is not about your back yard! There is a good story line to each book, no, I am not going to spoil your reading of the book. So enjoy reading about Gannon and Wyatt's adventure to the Great Bear Rainforest.

**I read the first two books before writing any of my thoughts down, so I decided to just do a combination post for both of them. My thoughts were pretty similar for both books.

I can't imagine a young person out there, especially young men, that wouldn't love this series of books! *I* already wish that the next book was out, so I could read it, too. These books provided me with such a wonderful learning experience. I learned about new places and even cultures of those lands. They are packed full of adventure and wildlife. I learned about some of the dangers that threaten those parts of the world.

The most amazing part of these books is the fact that Gannon and Wyatt are two real young men that have traveled to these places. The adventures are *loosely* based on their experiences. I don't imagine they'd be traveling quite as much if they were held at gunpoint and came so close to death everywhere they went. If you'd like to read more about Gannon and Wyatt, you can check out their website, Travels With Gannon and Wyatt. I found it pretty fun to peek around over there after reading both of the books. I felt like I was putting more of a face with the stories.

There's journaling pages at the end of the book, so your child can record their own adventures and notes. There's even maps at the end, too. I'm a huge sucker for book maps! I imagine these books would give young people a hunger for adventure and travel. It never hurts for education to be wrapped in a fun package, and that's exactly what this series gives.

As much as I enjoyed this series, it's obvious that it's written for young people. If you're an adult that simply reads middle grade for the fun of it, you might find parts of it corny. I won't lie! I did at times. I was easily able to look past it to see what a wonderful gift this series will be for my boys in a few years, though.

Lord willing, you better believe I'll be adding these books to our shelves for my boys to read! They are great, clean, adventurous fun and I enjoyed reading them!

*Great Bear Rainforest gets a *tiny bit* more on the fantasy side with bears and dreams leading the way. I honestly couldn't tell if there was some Christian allegory going on or if it was simply a hat tip to Native American spirit beliefs.

**I was provided an e-ARC of both books in exchange for my honest opinion.

Travels with Wyatt and Gannon: Great Bear Rainforest
Pattie Wheeler, Keith Hemstreet
Travels with Wyatt and Gannon series
Action/Adventure
Juvenile

Review: Wyatt and Gannon are back in their second adventure. This time the boys are traveling to the Great Bear Rainforest in Canada. While there, people start disappearing from the boat they are on and no one can make contact. After their parents join those who are missing, Wyatt and Gannon decide to take it upon themselves to find out what is going on.
I really wanted to like this one as much as the first one and in some ways I did, but in other ways I had a hard time with this story. My biggest problem with this book was I didn’t feel it was as believable as the first. The boys find themselves in way more dangerous situations and are just lucky enough to escape each time. Even when things are life threatening the boys make it out fairly okay. Then there is the fact that when they do reunite with the adults no one seems to think that the boys taking off on their own was a bad thing and instead are proud of them. Not once does anyone say that what they did was dangerous and that they could have died.
That being said there was some interesting parts to this story that still made it worth reading. Again I loved the photos. I also like how in the beginning of the book they give you a small language key for the local language in the area. My favorite part was one of the lessons they impart in the story that many might not even notice. The lesson is that we are all capable of doing something to help protect nature. It doesn’t have to be something major like taking down a bad guy who wants to destroy the land so big companies can use the resources, instead it can be something as simple as donating money, or picking up garbage.
I look forward to continuing to read this series. I do hope the rest are more realistic, but I’m sure no matter what happens, they will be interesting. I recommend this series to young explorers. I also recommend this to boys who enjoy adventure and action, but might not like to read a lot.

I received a free ecopy of this book from Netgalley for my honest opinion.

Twin brothers who are home-schooled in Colorado get to go with their family to the Canadian rainforest. The research crew they will accompany are hoping to see an spirit bear, which is a black bear with white fur. The boys, GANNON AND WYATT, are thrilled by the prospect. We read their journals.

Once inside Canada the family travels by small plane and boat to the west coast where the black and grizzly bears live on Princess Royal Island. A fifteen year old First Nation girl called Alu greets them. Large bear claw marks are in the mud. A well-worn bear trail beside a salmon run river provides the further clue of chewed-up salmon, as bears and wolves eat just the parts they prefer. Gannon loves adventure but wonders who in their right minds would be in the cold and mud and pouring rain, where grizzlies and wolves live. Wyatt is more analytical and records the weather and temperature with just a complaint about the mosquitoes.

Some of the trees were already 1,000 years old when Columbus discovered the Americas but clear-cutting of forests is under way and the boys wish to preserve them. The team is only armed with a gun that makes a loud bang to scare bears. Some good photos illustrate the journey, including whales and bears. Alu is concerned that salmon numbers are low and as the fish are a keystone species, other creatures may not have enough food. But scientist Dr. Brezner allays their fears - perhaps a little too blithely?

I wished Gannon wouldn't keep telling us that something was just totally mindblowing. The authors Patti Wheeler and Keith Hemstreet are trying to make the boys distinct personalities. But I agree with the rules: make sure you are properly equipped before starting an adventure! These short books show lots of nature and travel, while the boys have to use all their resources to face dangers.

Welcome back, young explorers! Hopefully you are rested up and prepared for your next thrilling adventure with two of the boldest, bravest, funniest, and, let’s face it, CRAZIEST trailblazers around: teenage brothers Gannon and Wyatt.

Following their first book that took readers like you through an unforgettable journey in Botswana, Gannon and Wyatt now travel to another continent and put their lives on the line to explore the Great Bear Rainforest. Most people in their right mind run away from life-threatening situations, but Gannon and Wyatt don’t back down from any challenge, regardless of the stakes. This time around they are more fearless than ever as they tackle increasingly dangerous conditions and obstacles, including a terrorizing encounter with a fierce packs of wolves and a harrowing experience of dodging bullets from gunmen who are determined to put an end to their investigative travels. Through it all, reading the boys’ journals make you feel like you are right there in the thick of the action!

Travels with Gannon and Wyatt is a groundbreaking series of adventurous stories like nothing else ever seen in children’s literature. Kids of all ages and from all backgrounds love these stories because they are packed with action, humor, mystery, and fun adventures. Parents love these stories because they know when their children find books like this to read, ultimately they will become more enthusiastic readers who thirst for more knowledge. Teachers love these stories because they offer a forum upon which to teach about human character, geography, wildlife, environmental conservation, a variety of critical global issues, and other significant topics that will help broaden a child’s education and enrich the lives of youth all over the world.

This time out, Wyatt and Gannon are traveling with their parents and an old friend, Captain Colin, to the Great Bear Rain Forest. They plan to study the habitat of the spirit bear, then volunteer at a whale research lab. Gannon is excited to leave on the trip because he can put off all the chores he has been avoiding at home. Wyatt can't wait to meet Dr. Hans Brezner, a famous environmental scientist, who is also part of the expedition. But both boys are in for disappointment - because they have to help with chores around the boat, and Dr. Brezner seems very preoccupied. And it seems they may not get to see any grizzlies, because the number of salmon in the streams is drastically lower than in previous years and they are an important food source for the bears. Not to worry, though, there is plenty of excitement. Mix together some wicked weather, poachers, crooked business deals, and a pack of wild wolves, and you have an unforgettable visit to a temperate rain forest.

Many readers may be surprised to learn that there are rain forests in North America. Most people assume all rain forests are tropical, but temperate rain forests like those in British Columbia also exist as amazing habitats. The journal entries of Gannon and Wyatt offer descriptions of the wildlife, the First Nation people of the Gitga'tt tribe, and the threats to the area from commercial entities. The boys' adventures also show what can happen when visitors run into danger in the wilderness.

This is an entertaining addition to the series and a good read for fans of adventure, exploration, and survival stories. I read an e-book provided by the publisher through NetGalley.

I absolutely adore this series! Not only are there fabulous characters (based on a real set of twins who travel the world) but the gorgeous settings and adventures that Gannon and Wyatt face are fascinating. My love of wild places and discovery is obviously speaking here, but really the book is well done with enough details to give the reader a strong sense of place, but the adventure of searching for missing people in an unknown setting where help is not readily available was great.

Gannon and Wyatt are twin brothers who love to explore wild places, but they have very different personalities. Gannon is the more impulsive of the two who makes it clear that he hates doing chores whether at home or on board ship. Wyatt is a budding scientist who looks at things very logically which causes problems when he runs into things in the Great Bear Rainforest that don't have a simple or even logical explanation.

I loved the setting and especially the photographs that are included that match the text perfectly. One of my pet peeves is when photos don't match the text they are matched up with, that isn't a problem here. They make the story seem all the more believable and real. I seriously wanted to jump into the book and visit the Great Bear Rainforest as I read this.

A great story for those like me who would love to visit such places but are unable to, those who enjoy being armchair adventurers. The website is also great because it has videos as well as more information about the real Gannon and Wyatt.

Gannon and Wyatt are fifteen-year-old twin brothers. They have a strong spirit of adventure - they like nothing better than exploring new places. In this story, the boys get to visit Canada, travelling to the Great Bear Rainforest in British Colombia on a scientific research expedition. The story consists of first person journal entries alternating between Gannon's journal and Wyatt's journal. This is the second story in the Travels with Gannon and Wyatt series, there are a couple of allusions to the first story, Botswana, but you can read them in any order.

An old friend of their parents, Captain Colin, calls up Gannon to inform him about an expedition with a famous environmental scientist to the Great Bear Rainforest to learn about the spirit bear, followed by a repair mission for a damaged whale research lab. When Gannon learns that there are two rooms available on the expedition ship he immediately signs up himself, his twin brother Wyatt and his parents - even though the ship leaves in just forty-eight hours!

On board, Wyatt is super impressed to meet the renowned scientist, Doctor Brezner, but Gannon has a funny feeling - is there something off about the Doctor?
There are small black-and-white photos cropped to the subject.
The writing is serviceable, often switching tenses between reports of past events versus now.
There are lined pages at the end where you can write your own journal notes.
There is a live web link for Gannon and Wyatt's web site in the e-book review copy I got from the publisher.

I won a copy on Goodreads Firstreads.

Gannon and Wyatt are real twins who have gotten to travel all over the world. They decided they wanted to share their experiences with other kids. They came up with stories loosely based on their travels. They have also cofounded a society to encourage young explorers.

The boys are back for another adventure. This time they are heading towards the Great Bear Rainforest in western Canada. They are going to study a fascinating eco-system and hopefully get to see the rare spirit bears that live there. Spirit bears are black bears that through a medical condition are white in color. As usual, the boys find more adventure than they were expecting as members of their group go missing, including their own parents. It will be up to the boys to rescue them and perhaps even save the rainforest itself.

As is normal for me with this series, I find the story fun and educational. But it is aimed primarily at the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew set, so older readers may not feel as engaged with it. This one really felt like a Hardy Boys adventure with a little Captain Planet cartoon thrown into the mix. Gannon seems to be fairly awkward. If anyone is going to fall into a trap or off a cliff, The good money will be on Gannon to do so. Wyatt learns that science may not always be the answer to everything. Finally, I did find it unlikely that 2 teenage boys were so unaffected by the young lady in the story. At that age, I would have been more interested in her than in seeing bears.

Although GREAT BEAR RAINFOREST is the second in the ‘Travels with Gannon & Wyatt’ series of young teen adventures, it is the third I have read and I have found it as delightful as its companions.
In this outing the duo along with their parents strike out for Canada by air and boat, ending up in the Great Bear Rainforest. Along the way a few of the crew who have gone out to search the rainforest disappear. The twins are greeted by a teen of the First Nation people, Alu, and she guides into the islands inner lands even as the brothers try to discover what secrets are being hidden within the trees.
The one thing that now comes forward fully and echoes throughout the other two stories is the environmental concern that these tales dramatize to great effect. While BOTSWANA dealt with big game poachers and EGYPT told of tomb raiders totally unlike Indiana Jones, RAINFOREST educates us about clear cutting the land and the effects this has on the fauna of the area. There is also concern directed toward the life cycle of salmon and how their low numbers lead other species into food shortages, thereby creating a domino effect of lower populations as well as the drastic measures these animals will take to insure their survival.
The book alternates between the journal entries of free spirited Gannon and the more scientific and detail oriented Wyatt. A nice collection of photographs enhances the story. This book is a very enjoyable read for both young readers and their parents and, along with the others in the series, come highly recommended.

I received Travels with Gannon and Wyatt: Botswana for free through Goodreads First Reads. And they threw in a copy of this book as a bonus. Woohoo!

This was a fun book. I didn't like it quite as much as the Botswana adventure--I think perhaps because there were not as many encounters with wildlife or "natives" in this book. Also this story felt much more fictional than the previous book. But once again it was very obvious that the real Gannon and Wyatt and their parents had truly experienced the Great Bear Rainforest and I could practically hear the mosquitoes buzzing around while sitting on a rock waiting for the grizzly bears to show up.

This was a quick, easy read (I read both this and the Botswana book in an evening) and I'd very much recommend it for anyone who has young adventurous children who like to read. I've already packaged it up and sent it on to my young niece and nephew because I think they'll really enjoy it.

This is the second book in this series. In this adventure Gannon, Wyatt, and their parents join an expedition to the Great Bear Rainforest in the Northwest. While there they discover that something is preventing the salmon from returning up the river to spawn which in turn is causing the grizzlies to starve. When the Captain and Dr. Brezner fail to return from exploring an island, Gannon and Wyatt's parents go searching for them. When they also fail to return Gannon and Wyatt set out. As in the first book the story gets a bit unbelievable at some points, but again boys especially would probably like it. It helps that the book is written in journal format and has great photographs. I actually liked this one better than the other one. Maybe it is a familiarity with the characters but I also thought the writing was a bit better.

Travels with Gannon and Wyatt: The Great Bear Rainforest features twins who travel the world and have great adventures. Along the way, they (and the reader) learn about the area. In this book, the family is in The Great Bear rainforest to hopefully see a Spirit Bear. They learn about the grizzlies, wolves and salmon that live in the rainforest from Alu, a First Nations girl. The Captain and an environmentalist first disappear, and the Gannom and Wyatt's parents go missing. When the twins venture inland to rescue everyone, the adventure begins as they must survive encounters with grizzlies, wolves, cold and wet weather, and a group of men who are trying to ruin the ecology of the rainforest so it will no longer be protected.

Students will enjoy the adventure and teachers and parents will be pleased that they are learning about different parts of the world at the same time.

Crazy trailblazers, 15 year old twin brothers, Gannon and Wyatt with parents, visit the great bear rainforest in British Colombia. Go on a science research expedition to learn about the spirit bear and where he lives. We alternate between both boys journals to learn about their adventure. This is a read full of danger, wildlife, and great scenery, with much we can learn without actually being there with them. An exciting read, one you will not want to put down. Just the cover picture gets you interested in reading this book. I would recommend this book and any other books of the travels of Gannon and Wyatt to all ages and especially to young children who read and like adventure. I highly recommend this book and want to read other books this author has written and any future books.

Another good entry into the Travels With Gannon and Wyatt. Once again, it is a fictionalized account of an actual experience of the twin brothers and their family. This time they are in the rainforests on the western coast of Canada. Normally, when I think of rainforests I think of tropical jungles but yes Canada and Alaska do have rainforests too. Like Gannon and Wyatt, I have been to these rainforests.

Like the first book, Botswana, this story is partly reality and partly (mostly?) fictional. It makes for a good read but some parts may be a bit much for younger readers. The story involves some villains who seem to have no qualms about injuring or even killing other people including teenagers.

Again a strong entry into the series.

I've been on a quest for some quality middle school literature. The new series by Patti Wheeler and Keith Hemstreet is a treasure of educational fiction. "Travels with Gannon & Wyatt" is an adventure/travel series where twin brothers journal about their global expeditions.

While exploring for a "Spirit Bear" in the second book, Great Bear Rainforest, the boys go in search of the captain, a famous scientist and their parents who all go missing in the protected rainforest.

This series is great for 4th-8th graders. The books have short chapters, designed like journal entries that reluctant readers won't mind. Advanced readers will enjoy the animal and geography facts along with the suspense and adventure in both stories.

Invited by a captain friend, Gannon and Wyatt and their mom and dad set sail aboard a ship bound for the Great Bear Rain Forest in British Columbia to deliver a world famous environmental scientist and then head over to volunteer at a whale station.

But when they reach the rain foret more is going on than they thought possible - the captain and the scientist disappear on the island and then Wyatt and Gannon’s parents also disappear.

Eager to find their parents, Gannon and Wyatt steal ashore, only to encounter hungry wolves, grizzly bears, and impenetrable forest and men out to ultimately destroy this protected and to some sacred land.

Join Wyatt and Gannon for another page turning adventure and learn a little at the same time!

Crossing an adventure tale with a travelogue this book brings the Great Bear Rainforest into the minds and lives of people who never knew such a place exists. The alternating narrative between the two brothers gives an interesting contrast of perspective. As the story starts relatively normal teenager, Gannon is complaining about having to do chores and homework. Then Wyatt takes the next part, telling of the excitement only a true science geek could get out of visiting a rainforest and possibly meeting a famous environmentalist. This is a fast, easy read for elementary to middle school students with a taste for adventure.

Mystery, intrigue, suspense, and a life and death struggle to survive in the wild. Gannon and Wyatt are at it again in this exciting adventure in the mysterious Great Bear Rainforest in Alaska. My son and I used this book as a read aloud for bedtime reading. I think I enjoyed it as much as he did! We recommend this book, and the others in the series, for any kids who like stories about kids like them and the adventures they have all over the world. Also, for kids who are homeschooled like my son it is an extra bonus that the main characters,Gannon and Wyatt are also homeschooled.

For fans of brothers Gannon and Wyatt, who travel the world, this is the next step in their journey. However, the excitement is high, and the dangers of Great Bear Rainforest are real. Members of the expedition disappear, making it very clear this is no ordinary adventure. This is one trip they will NEVER forget.
