Ten Commandments Twice Removed

Rate this book
A backlash of attention to the Ten Commandments--unleashed by recent U.S. court rulings--rallied Christians in defense of its public display. Amid the cresendo of concern, a lone voice vies for attention, "If you love Me, keep my commandments" (John 14:15). Is our defense of the Ten Commandments triggered simply by a sentimental interest of Christian culture? Is it posssible the Church stands before God as guilty as our government for discarding the Decalogue? With unflinching conviction, the authors join their voices with great Christian leaders like Billy Graham, D. L. Moody, John Wesley, and Charles Spurgeon, to trumpet the truth-- God never revoked His Ten Commandments! This book answers critical questions with compelling clarity and Bible evidence. Did the Ten Commandment exist before Mt. Sinae? Were they nailed to the cross? How do we de-mystify Paul's writings about the Law? Does man have authority to change God's law?

Have you ever wondered why a "Christian" nation is teaching our children Evolutionistic baloney, why the ten commandments and prayer are banned in school when our money says "In God we trust" - with all these inconsistencies what can we trust?

This book was great... it helps you understand how a supposed Christian country is not following the law of God, is allowing evolution to be taught etc
It shows you why it is so important that we keep God's law and follow him in action as well as faith.

It wasn't really focused on the 10 Commandments as a whole, but more so on the 4th Commandment. It made some good arguments related to the 4th Commandment. It has made me think a little more about the Sabbath and what celebrating it really means. The title was a little deceiving, but it was a fast and easy read.

This is a Hodge-podge. At points I was jumping for joy for the overwhelming assertion of God's Law for all of life for all men at all times. At points I was crying for the disappointing 'exceptions'. But I have heard it all before- on both sides- so I got a little board and didn't quite finish. (Good thing I got it from the Goodwill for a dollar.)

Although I agree with the Sabbath doctrine presented in this book, I was NOT keen on the presentation. I found it to be very verbose, somewhat repetitive, and not very friendly. I much prefer Joe Crews' "Why God Said Remember" as far as the Sabbath topic goes, and if someone asked me for something to read about the Sabbath, I'd much sooner recommend that.

From the actual writing I would rate this a three but am giving it a higher rating because it does give good food for thought and that bumps it up a point. Even though I am familar with the subject it pointed out some things I had missed or forgotten.

Two main contentions of this book: 1) the 10 commandments are still relevant and to be followed today under the New Covenant (I held this view prior to reading). and 2) the Sabbath should be observed on Saturday not Sunday.

While I chalked up most of the portion on the 2nd contention to legalist religion and following the letter of the law at the expense of the spirit of the law that is counter to the themes preached by both Jesus and Paul, I must admit there were a couple thought-provoking arguments.
But I'm not sure how one would respond to this conclusion. The Sunday Sabbath is so ingrained in our culture at this point. Most likely your church assembles on Sunday(this is notable to the author, see their note on Jesus on page 94). And most likely your work week starts on Monday, making Sunday the seventh day after work begins for the week.

I do agree with the author on one point though: "God looks at the heart and judges people on an individual basis, according to their sincerity" (p.97). I think this is true even in regard to observing the Sabbath.

Interesting topics are shared throughout this book - The Ten Commandments (Law of God) vs. The Ten Commandments (Law of Moses); Catholicism and Protestantism and how they differ; arguments presented on the side of scripture; and God's Law or Man's Law. Very detailed and highly referenced passages are throughout the book, but I did find several chapters confusing as in some instances, they seemed to contradict each other or be repetitive.

I’m just thinking on this. Not sure how to review this one honestly. Because I feel it could be taken as a guide to hand out to convert you to becoming a Seventh Day Adventist which would be fitting considering I don’t know where I got this but it’s stamped with our local Seventh Day Adventist church information. I don’t think the teaching was terrible by any means just a lot to think on.

Not really sure if it has any spoilers I haven’t already read from other reviews

I was hoping to get a book that discussed in detail the 10 commandments. Instead I got a book that glazed over nine of the commandments and mainly focused on the 4th commandment. With that being said, this book did give me much to think about concerning the Sabbath and what it means to keep it. This was a thought provoking quick read that I enjoyed.

Excellent book on observing and remembering the Sabbath of Yehovah. The Sabbath is not a “Jewish” day. It was implemented at creation, long before the founding of the Jewish people. The Sabbath is Yehovah’s day. As believers we have a duty and an obligation to obey this day as Almighty God deserves.
