In Librarians, early readers will learn what librarians do to ensure their libraries have the resources people need to write reports, find jobs, discover new books, and more. Vibrant, full-color photos and carefully leveled text will engage emergent readers as they discover what librarians do on the job. A labeled diagram helps readers identify different areas of a librarian s workspace, while a picture glossary reinforces new vocabulary. Children can learn more about librarians online using our safe search engine that provides relevant, age-appropriate websites. Librarians also features reading tips for teachers and parents, a table of contents, and an index. Librarians is part of Jump! s Community Helpers series.
Cari Meister lives on a small farm in Minnesota with her husband, four sons, three horses, one dog and one cat. Cari enjoys running, snowshoeing, horseback riding, and yoga. She loves to visit libraries and schools!
The book was published in 2012, but is new to us, now. The title page shows a librarian writing down information that she is pulling from a drawer in a card catalog!!!!!
Come on people, libraries don't use card catalogs anymore; it's all on computers!
Libraries offer so much more now, but the emphasis is still on books and the pictures look like they are from the 70's. I think this author and publisher (Bullfrog Books) needs to get out in the world and visit a library of today.
There's more to being a librarian than to being way smart, and knowing more about books than most people do. This book can give us Goodreaders even more respect than we already have for those community builders known as "Librarians."
Between the text and the photos, readers learn more about the different people who serve as librarians. For instance, we meet:
* A children's librarian, who conducts Story Time at the library. * Acquisitions librarian Miss May. * Elementary school librarian Mrs. Hopp * Bookmobile driver Miss Day
FIVE STARS for a very reader friendly book about what librarians do.
It had a front page that helps a teacher or parent use Bloom's levels of thinking while reading the book. The book can be read to a preschool class or a new beginner can read it to someone. It is newer so the pictures and text are up to date. We no longer use card catalogs and so many of the community helper books are outdated and show them still. I was very happy to use this in my class during this theme.
Wonderful and simple book about librarians. Really like that it has a couple of pictures of the bookmobile from Rochester Hills Public Library. This is a great introduction for kids into the life of a librarian.
It's good to get some recognition! We are indeed busy folks--NO, we don't sit around and read books all day, which is what some people who never visit libraries think.
