Max, explosive escapologist and master magician, has been recruited by the Department for Extraordinary Activity for his third dangerous mission. A remote island in the Pacific Ocean has been flooded by a freak surge of water, and sinister forces are suspected. There's no time to lose―Max must dive straight into a perilous adventure. Will Max defeat his terrifying underwater enemies and discover the dark secrets of the deep?
I haven't read the two previous books in this series. I could pick up this one straight away without difficulty.
Although I feel the genre of boys who are spies or go on adventures is oversaturated this has some good points that raise it slightly above the average. It has minor peril and a fast paced story.
The other characters are interesting in design even though the story is just told from the perspective of the hero. It is a good read to be read to younger children or for a young reader. I feel it would be suited best for someone aged 8-11.
Book 3 in the series takes Max deep underwater to a city filled with Slithers- creatures that are half human and half sea creature. His goal is to figure out if they have anything to do with some mysterious flooding. As usual he is outfitted with some fun gadgets and has some close calls but manages to save the day. Another fun action/ science-fiction book.
