Horror author C. Dennis Moore returns to the short story form with this latest collection, THE DICHOTOMY OF MONSTERS, 65,000 words, fifteen terrifying tales of things that aren’t what they seem. Moore’s reality will leave you questioning your own senses and doubting the proof right in front of your eyes.
In “Reckoning”, Jody returns to his old home after his mother’s funeral to find some of the memories he thought he’d left behind aren’t so quiet nor so forgotten. Fans of his haunted house novel The Third Floor will find Moore’s take on ghosts in this story to be anything but typical.
In “Timesmiths”, Moore ponders the question of time travel and what happens to the perceptions of those being affected when alterations are made. In “Broken Man”, poor Mr. Sumner saw angels take away his dying wife and now he thinks he can bring them back for him if he makes himself suffer enough.
In the title story, an escaped Mr. Hyde sets out for America in search of a permanent cure to his weak alter-ego. But he soon discovers the real monsters are not quite as obviously recognized as he is.
In “Monday”, the one C. Dennis Moore calls “the best story I’ve ever written”, Maddy has only one goal today: die. But an old custom and a deep-rooted sense of routine keeps her locked in an unending cycle until she can figure out the key to breaking her pattern.
These are just some of the fifteen stories in THE DICHOTOMY OF MONSTERS, but each one offers its own unique view of hell and the monsters that dwell there. Leave your preconceptions at the door and let C. Dennis Moore show you just how beautiful monsters can be and, as in the story “The Garden”, how monstrous the beautiful.
C. Dennis Moore is the author of the Angel Hill novels, the Monsters of Green Lake series, as well as the Holiday Horrors. He lives in St. Joseph, MO with his wife, Kara. They have seven children and three grandchildren. His website is www.cdennismoore.com
Chase was writing a science fiction story about a doctor who’s given the power to cure his sickest patients, but for every terminal patient he cures, a seemingly healthy one dies. The doctor was currently trying to decide whether to save the down on his luck magazine editor with lung cancer, or let nature take its course.
The Dichotomy of Monsters;a collection of short stories, my forty-fourth read from author C. Dennis Moore. A collection of Moore’s popular short stories. A well-written, enjoyable read and thoroughly entertaining! I always look forward to the next work from him. I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading more from this author. I'm currently on a mission to read everything from a couple of my favorite authors, C. Dennis Moore being one and over the last few weeks he's helped me along by making one of his works free on Amazon each week. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
I fucking love it. I really do feel that i've finally found a book/author that is truly underappreciated by most people. I believe he is a self published author. So it feels as if almost no one knows of his work. But i love it. There is something about the stories and the writing and the endings that captures something that I love about the genre and about writing as a whole. I am currently teaching myself to write and although this newly acquired authors is a self published one, he is easily one of my favorite. Being self published he probably isnt ever going to be the next stephen king, he still spins a great yarn and im sure just as much as i love reading it, he probably loves telling it. And that is what I want as well. And since those are such a long shot aspirations and realistically do not happen for everyone in life, I actually dont mind aiming for the love of it. But anyways... I am excited to get to the next short story anthologies he has (he has a few) and be scared, disturbed, and creeped out again and again.
I totally recommend this title. Its within the hearts of the little guy that true passion burns or withers. At least this is my belief.
