This is the story of James Merton, a barrister, who after an attempted burglary of his flat by Ginger Edwards, in his squadron during WWll, attempts to find Ginger to help set him straight. Approaching the various men they had known during the war, Merton finally finds him. And there, breaking through a barrier of hostility, Ginger tells him the sad story of his life. The offer by Merton to help Ginger remains elusive at the end.
