The road to Hell. These stories are set in the world of the novel REVELATIONS and provide some backstory on a few of that novel's more interesting characters.
C. Dennis Moore is the author of the Angel Hill novels, the Monsters of Green Lake series, as well as the Holiday Horrors. He lives in St. Joseph, MO with his wife, Kara. They have seven children and three grandchildren. His website is www.cdennismoore.com
An interesting series of short stories each linking to the other with the finale introducing you to The Trust. The collection as a whole is a precursor to the author's novel "Revelations". I was thinking "well the first two stories are definitely eerie with a twist of weird, but how does this tie in to the name of the book?" Hold your horses! Everything makes sense with the final offering, which definitely leaves you chomping at the bit for the follow on novel. Weird coupled with human experimentation ..... I'm definitely up for that!
I'm not 100% sure what to make of Welcome to the Trust. I downloaded it on a free promotion to see if it would interest me in the novel Revelations. The collection has three stories that are supposed to be back stories for some of the novel's characters. The first story, The Strange Thing That Happened At The SpinCycle Laundry (points for such an awesome title), involves a laundry repairman who just refuses to give up on a job - no matter what. Next comes The Salvation of Victor, which is a short vampire snippet that unfortunately has very little story. The final story, The Flesh-Method & Myriad, is a cool little story about genetic experiments that introduces the Trust and reflects on the first two stories to (kind of) tie things together. I feel like I'd have enjoyed the stories more if I had read Revelations. It reads like it was meant to supplement the book, not exist as stand-alone stories. That's not to say they were bad, because I did enjoy them, but when I finished reading I didn't feel that anything was resolved. If that was the plan then it was successful. However, if the plan was to get me to buy a novel just so I would know what was going on, then maybe not so much.
A set of intertwined short stories that lead the reader on a very grim journey through what appears to be a small-town. Starting in the laundromat, then later in time to an escape from the Trust, and finally in to the dystopian future with a group of survivors who take refuge in the Trust. While it is a quick read, I was engaged in the story until the end. Once again C. Dennis Moore proves he can write stories that are suspenseful as well as disturbing. I received a free copy of this book from an author promotion and voluntarily chose to review.
Welcome to the Trust, a 56-page collection of 3 short stories & the first chapter of his novel Revelations, my fifty-ninth read from author C. Dennis Moore. A well-written, thoroughly entertaining enjoyable read! I always look forward to the next work from him. I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading more from this author. I'm currently on a mission to read everything from a couple of my favorite authors, C. Dennis Moore being one and over the last few weeks he's helped me along by making one of his works free on Amazon each week. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
