It’s Albert’s first trip to the amousement park. He says he’s not “afraid” to go on rides—he just doesn’t like ones that go up and down. Or left and right. Or around and around! But what happens when Albert ends up in line for the wrong ride? (Math Direction Words)
Albert and Wanda go to the amousement park, but it seems like Albert is too scared to ride anything. Will they be able to enjoy any rides at the park?
A lightly humorous story about a scared little kid at his first amusement park. The twist at the end was funny. This book has directional words all bolded and says it is covering the math concept of direction words. I’m not exactly sure how that’s a math concept, but then again, I don’t teach Kindergarten. Maybe it does fall under math in the curriculum (social studies would’ve made more sense to me, and you could argue it is teaching prepositions because all except left and right are prepositions)? I can see kids enjoying it for just the story and it would be helpful for teachers who are teaching direction words in whatever subject.
I picked this book because we had just gone on a roller coaster last week and I wanted to see if my son made any text to self connections. Not only did he make those connections, but it was also so much fun to read! The prepositions were great and very age appropriate for pre-K and kinder kids.
Beginning math skills in a picture book, along with teaching ideas in the back. You can't go wrong with that combo - but then I'm a math geek sometimes. I liked the story itself, and can relate to the mouse who doesn't want to try any rides because they all look scary - and then tries them and finds out he loves them. Fun and interesting and a good choice to use with your young children just learning math concepts about directions.
Good book about having fun at an amusement park even when you're scared. Really good pictures or actual amusement park rides to help prepare kids for what they will see.
