This is the sort of story Rosemary Wells can pull off with Max and Ruby, but here it's just slight. Little Donkey won't eat, Little Donkey goes to the park and decides when his mama is about to turn his food into duck food that he does want it and will share it with the ducks.
The only reason I think this has gotten decent enough reviews for me to have been talked into buying it is that Mama and Little Donkey are wearing Muslim garb (burquas). Nice as that is, multiculturalism should be accompanied by a great story. It's not enough to make a really good book. And it doesn't here.

Donkey is a picky eater and no amount of tricks help get the food down, but when Mama offers his food up to the ducks at the park he changes his tune.

Illustrations feature a nod to Islamic cultures as the donkeys are wearing burqas.

I liked the risk Mama donkey takes in offering the unwanted food to the ducks. It's a clever solution without being cruel. PreK-2.

A perfect book, especially for parents and their kids who are weaning/fussy eaters - captures an authentic moment of parenthood so wonderfully.

I was giving this a solid 4 (the story is cute, I like the art style, I LOVE that the donkeys are Muslim) but then I noticed it has TEAR RESISTANT PAGES. YES PLEASE MORE TODDLER BOOKS LIKE THIS.
