When I read the blurb for this story I was struck by how unique it sounded. A hit man and a coyote shifter…? The hit man doesn’t complete the hit because the coyote shifter offered him sex?? REALLY? I was so intrigued and I had to find out what it was all about. It seemed so farfetched but at the same time I wanted to read it to know the story. Let’s just say I probably should have passed this one up. It was so fragmented that I couldn’t really get into it.

Mick Whalen is a hit man and he’s damn good at his job. Gavin Wilde is a coyote shifter/actor and very arrogant. Mick’s handlers send Mick on a job to eliminate Gavin, his next hit. As Mick is pointing the gun at Gavin he wakes up and offers Mick a counteroffer, sex in return for his life. Mick agrees.

I think what I got caught up on in the story was the lack of emotion at the beginning. I don’t know, I just really wanted them to feel something and I didn’t get that emotion. As the story progressed the sex got hotter but their feelings towards each other was very lukewarm. I just couldn’t connect with the characters and that brought this whole story down for me.

On top of all that there were these mysteries that popped up and usually when there are twists and turns you want to keep reading to find out what happens. I found myself not really caring either way.

The story contained mysteries on who contracted Mick to kill Gavin, someone was trying to kill Mick and his other hit man friends so they had to figure out who it was, and a friendship betrayal. It was very convoluted to the point where it seemed forced. The ending was also very unsatisfying. There was no mention of love, and it ended not like they were a couple but more like friends with benefits which was disappointing.

Overall, the writing wasn’t bad this author is talented. I just think this book suffered from too much going on in the story to really get a feel for the characters. Also the lack of emotion between the characters bothered me throughout the story. This was a definite disappointment considering how much I wanted to read it.
