*I was given an eCopy of Entrelacen by the author in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. It was definitely different which piqued my interest right away. This book was brave. It’s technically in the genre of “New Adult” (I guess?) but it did NOT include all the stereotypical NA elements. It was, of course, a love story but it wasn’t just a love story between a boy and a girl. It was so much more than that. It was about two people who had to learn to love themselves, too.
I was instantly drawn into April’s story. I absolutely loved that she wasn’t your typical female MC. She was smart and determined and strong. She knew what she wanted and she fought like Hell to get it. I found her so totally refreshing. I loved that she wasn’t perfect and she wasn’t “typically” beautiful. She had her flaws and although a times those flaws impacted her life she learned to accept and even, dare I say it, LOVE those flaws. Her overwhelming strength and courage in her battle against her father and his really stupid wife amazed me. I mean, I’m April’s age and I don’t know if I would EVER have the confidence in myself to take on adopting three young boys. It was truly inspiring. Oh, and guess what…? April IS NOT a virgin. I know this might not seem like a big deal, however, when almost every single female NA MC is a virgin it’s a little unrealistic. I mean, I have nothing against virgins, in fact I think it’s admirable but it’s nice to see someone who isn’t. Anyways, moving right along…
Logan intrigued me from the first time we meet him. I felt totally empathetic towards his situation and understood why he didn’t like opening up to new people. His back-story was totally heartbreaking and I honestly couldn’t believe the shit he had to go through. And guess what!!! Logan isn’t a womanizing jerk! He’s actually a really decent guy. He’s sweet and kind and mostly seems to have a good head on his shoulders. I found myself swooning over some of the truly sweet and romantic things he thought/said. I really enjoyed him as a male MC. Plus he’s sexy and has nice abs, what’s not to love?
I was curious about how April and Logan’s stories were going to intertwine. The first half of the book focused on their back-stories and how they became who they were in the present and then transitioned into well, the present. I thought the transitioning period was interesting. I did struggle a little bit with the beginning because it was often fast-paced and a little overwhelming but I don’t think it detracted from the book’s overall value. Anyways, I thought the way April and Logan ended up meeting was pretty awesome. And, although I’m not generally a lover of insta-love I found their instant attraction vital to the story. It was a mystery to solve. I found myself repeatedly guessing about their possible and probable magical origins through the first half of the book and wondered if this was behind their instant attraction. I enjoyed the magical aspects of this book which made it totally different from most NA I’ve read lately. It was an interesting and unique story and I found myself itching to know what happened next.
Entrelacen touched my heart and made me cry in parts. I loved it that much, and I am not just saying that because it’s Dani’s. The story has a special place in her heart and I am SO SO happy that she wrote it and is sharing it with all of you. April and Logan are the main characters in this story. We see their separate stories unfolding in the beginning of the book. You hear of April’s life and her adopting her brothers. (I seriously want to tell you the whole story but you must read it for the full emotional effect). Logan’s life was not a walk in the park either. He was raised by his mother who loved him, but there was a special and almost scary task placed upon him. There was something and someone he must protect. When his mom was taken from him and after being in a comma, Logan wakes to a new life with his grandmother. This is where, in Las Vegas, Logan and April’s lives run into each other, literally. (You’ll see) April starts working in Logan’s Grandmothers store, and the chemistry is CLEARLY there. My favorite part when April and Logan hang out, is the water fight with her boys! I could clearly see that in my head. Logan is a VERY swoon worthy guy! You know the part in books were there has to be that “No, no, no ,don’t be stubborn” that you say? Well something happens and I will say both Logan and April are stubborn to protect themselves and the boys. BUT you know….. that doesn’t last…. HAHAHAH! When they two of them realize they are destined to be together and protect a “special someone” it’s like the sun shines and rainbows shoot from the air. One of my favorite quotes from the book is when Logan says: “Baby no matter what we are here together We are in this together. Now one is going to take us away from each other or stop us from protecting our boys” Did you swoon? Because it made April cry and swoon! Seriously I cried too!
The big battle at the end of the book is where I was crying. I won’t say what happens but the emotion is thick and this is where I saw the love and strength Logan and April have for each other mature so strong. I ABSOLUTELY Loved the whole book and the Ending was like a cherry on top. The Epilogue is like Chocolate Syrup! My thoughts on Entrelacen? I loved it! Great story, great tension in parts and Lots of wondering what will happen next! I read it in a day and could not stop. Then had to tell Dani that I cried! I love her dearly and am so proud that she wrote this!!! So….. Go get your copy!!! Fall in love with April and Logan’s stories and then with their story that became Entrelacen !
There's just something about this story. It's a mixture of fact and fiction, of truth and imagination, all woven together to create a truly beautiful story of love and hope that will have you laughing and yes, crying. And the paranormal aspect takes it to a whole new level.
We all have our struggles in day to day life, big or small, but the struggles April and Logan face - both alone and together - are far from small. This truly is a story about growing, both physically and mentally, and discovering what true love is about. It's about finding that forever kind of love that makes your heart race, your knees shake, and your brain become incapable of stringing words together. It's about holding on to what you have and not letting go despite all odds pushing against you.
Debut novel from Dani Morales! I liked this book and give it 4 stars. This novel alternates between the POV of the 2 main characters; April and Logan. I loved their dynamic and only wish there was less back story and more of their story. They both had daunting obstacles to overcome. I get that their back stories were important to define them each as a character. I wish there was less so we could get to the parts where April and Logan are interacting sooner because those were my favorite parts. I am anti spoilers so you'll have to read it to find out more. Overall I thought it was a strong debut and look forward to reading future work from this author.
This book was sweet one second, and heartbreaking the next. In Dani Morales debut novel she brings us a tale that shows you how two people living totally seperate lives are forever linked together.
When I read this book, I was excited at the prospect of a book because of all the teasers and tidbits that had been floating around on twitter leading up to its release. Well, if you didn't already know, this book was awesome! Add in the fact that parts of the story are based on Dani's actual life, and well... it makes makes you feel that much more emotion and connection to each and every character!
I loved April right off the bat, she had a shitty life, she knew it... and she just dealt. She was always making the most of everything. While reading about her life, everything she has gone through starting at such a young age.. its enough to break anyone's heart.
Logan, well he is cute, adorable, and just trying to deal with whatever life throws at him. His life has not been a walk in the park either, and he dealt with it in an entirely different way then April. His relationship with his grandmother was so cute, and he was obviously very devoted to her and loved her very much.
What I really enjoyed about this book was how we basically got 2 different stories... April's, and Logan's... but how they were so interwoven together and destined to be. It was a unique take on writing that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Interesting plot that is quite different than anything else I have read previously. Though the story was slow to develop, the second half was interesting as the relationships between the characters finally developed. There are many editing, formatting and grammar issues throughout, at least in the ebook version that I read, but overall I think that it is a good first novel from Dani Morales.
