Revised review. The more I thought about this story today, the more I felt it needed a little longer review from me.:)
4.5 stars Fun, short read! The characters and writing, and story-line were really good, and the author had me engaged throughout the whole story.
The story is about an erotic writer who is constantly questioned about how she comes up with her stories, and a lot of her fans assume that it's from her own personal experience. Sophie (the erotic author in the story) lets her friends and fans assume that is the case. She can put on what she calls her keep it cool game face, and becomes a "Sex Queen" full of sass and attitude.
In real life however, Sophie is very self conscious of her curvy body, and she's also a virgin. She lives her fantasies through her writing, and if anyone was to find out that she was a virgin...she would be ruined.
... enter Allan Cooper. Her cousins flat-mate and childhood friend (Sophie moved away when she was younger and hasn't seen Allan since). Sophie is staying with her cousin for a two week work holiday where she is relaxing and also promoting her books at a friends local book shop.
The fun begins in this story when Allan (who is also a police officer)
discovers Sophie's secret. He promises not to tell anyone her secret, and volunteer's to give Sophie experience while she's staying with them for the two weeks.
There is amazing chemistry between Sophie and Allan, and their bantering and teasing is fun to read.
Little do Sophie and Allan realize they've gotten more than they bargained for, and that two weeks may not be enough for them.
Aussies are HOT okay?Chris Hemsworth proved that to us. This book is okay. Unless you count the scene where they do the a role play sex. Now that is HOT
The H seemed like a immature, smug jerk manwhore, and the h had the standard low self-esteem most plus-size heroines seem to suffer from. Not sexy, not romantic, not cute. Also, the book lost me from the introductory scene because the H's work partner sounded thousands of degrees hotter than the H.
This story was pretty darn close to PERFECT for me!!! Loved Alan SO SO SOOOOO MUCH!!! And i honestly haven't laughed so hard in a long time! And *WHEW* can you say STEAM FACTOR of 1000?!!
Sophie Willow is an erotic romance writer with a secret, all the hot things she has written about...she has never experienced, in fact she hasn't experienced anything at all as her virginity still remains intact. Alan Cooper is a cop, a really cute one and when he finds out her secret he offers to give her the experience she craves, but will the two weeks they have together be enough?
I seem to be on a Angela Verdenius spree at the moment, I can't seem to stop reading her books. One because her books are funny and sweet with a dash of sexy. Two, because all the characters seem to interconnected, if you have read Cop's Passion you will recognize Alan, the hero, as Mike's partner and he also pops up in a lot of Ms Verdenius books so I am glad I picked this up to see him get his HEA.
However, I can't give The Virgin Sex Queen more than 3 stars, although I did enjoy reading it, I feel like I have read it before...which I have, I have found that all Ms Verdenius's books are basically all the same, from the way the story unfolds to the heroine's character; they very much follow the same pattern. That doesn't stop me from laughing at the witty banter and loving the heroes sexy bedroom skills, but it would be nice to read something a little different.
A fun read, I am glad I got to see fun lovin' Alan finally get caught by a gal and despite finding the books a little repetitious, they are exactly what I need to read whilst I am lounging in the sun.
Extremely sweet and occasionally hilarious love story between Sophie and Alan. Sophie is an erotic romance writer- but her inspiration is imagination and occasional porn.. she's a virgin sex queen! Visiting her cousin Sam, she realizes the cop that stopped her for speeding is her childhood crush Alan. Slow flirtation ensues and when Alan discovers her hymen status, he decides to teach her a thing or two about sex in two weeks. Slow attraction, humorous situations, lovable heroine and likable secondary character (except Debbie) Safe with exceptions 3.5/5
This was a really sweet, funny (admittedly quick) read. And it was great to read an Australian author who kept a bit of aussie language and culture in there.
It was a nice combo, Alan the sexy, skirt chasing cop and Sophie, the virgin author who writes sexy books. I liked them both a lot. Sophie was relatable. And Alan had a sexy possessive thing going. There was some good chemistry here and the dialogue was actually pretty good.
The only thing that bothered me was that Sophie's books, seemed to promise something quite kinky, spanking and so forth. And the actual education of Sophie by Alan was pretty tame. The sex scenes were a little repetitive and almost seemed anaemic in comparison to what was promised!
Aside from that, great book. I might pick up another by this author soon.
This isn't an epic love story but it is hilariously funny. If you pause too long or think too deeply you may question certain aspects of this story as leaning towards the ridiculous. However as a light and quick read it certainly held my attention.
Angela Verdenius’ books are simply a joy to read! They are entertaining, sweet, funny, sexy..and I’ve said this before but they are truly the perfect fairy tale for a grown woman with curves! The author seems to use the same magic ingredients and although the basic plot and players don’t change too much, we do get a varied selection in her stories from the vibe each character and couple gives off with their unique (yet almost always alpha males) personalities and circumstances. The setting and link between the characters from one book to the next (even though not technically in the same series) is a delightful perk to reading her books because we have the sense of community, friendship, and support.
From past books, we know that Alan is the happy-go-lucky, super laid back, funny friend who is – by his own admission – a skirt chaser. His type is – make that WAS – a tall, thin gym bunny and he was happy to live the life of an unattached bachelor. That is until he reunites with his childhood friend Sophie. They’ve always had the teasing banter that developed to attraction, to lust, to smexy bedroom tales, to can’t-live-without- you love.
I do wish we saw more tender moments between these two and for their feelings of dread and doubt behind their pending separation (after only 2 weeks) to have been a little more drawn out. Their declaration of love felt like it happened too quickly (I wanted more!!), but other than that…this was another winner! I look forward to more books from this author!
Though it pains me to say it, this was a 3 star read for me.
I loved the possessiveness shown by Alan. The jealously certainly took him by surprise and it was so cute the way he stalked her at the book signing.
The book unfortunately lacked the humour I would normally expect and normally this author goes to some length to give the furbabies personalities which make them as much a part of the story as their humans. Didn't happen this time.
Also, the relationship happened so fast that it didn't seem believable. I don't know why not. I've read books with love at first sight (and people falling in love quickly) but this book didn't quite do it for me. Maybe because it was difficult to reconcile the Alan in this book to the Alan described in previous books.
I don't know why but I just couldn't get into this book. When I read the synopsis I felt like it had great potential to be an AMAZING story but when I started reading it, I felt like it was lacking something. The first sex scene I didn't think was realistic and from then on I just kept going back and forth between like some bits and not liking others.
I also felt no connection to the characters and their relationship moved a little to quickly.
I picked this book up because I needed a title that started with the letter V for a challenge, and imagine my surprise when it tied directly to Cop's Passion, a book I had really enjoyed by this author! I hoped for a great read when I sat down with it, and I got exactly that!
Sophie was very easy to connect with, as she was a lot like any plus sized woman out there: full of self doubt and a lack of confidence. I really liked how she gave herself pep talks to bolster her confidence, as I could see myself doing it too!
Alan was great as a hero, because he wouldn't tolerate Sophie talking down about herself. He challenged her, and accepted her as is, save for one part, which allowed her to be truthful about herself finally.
Their romance was a bit of a whirlwind one, but it wasn't totally unbelievable. I loved the cameo's of Mike from Cop's Passion and kept wondering about the other couples mentioned in this book, if they had been part of that series as well, as I couldn't remember. This was a funny and engaging read and one I'm glad I picked up!
Aahh..., so sweet!, loved Alan and Sophie what a cute couple and he's a cop!!, man in uniform gets me every damn time. I liked the sound of Sophie's cousin Sam and definitely want to hear his story, nice hearing from Marty from the Lawson books and obviously welcome back Mike as Alan's partner I adored him from his own story with Maddy. I love how the stories are loosely linked nice touch. The great thing about this story is that it slowly builds up, the subtle looks, the blushing, the flirting, oh the flirting, Alan you are one smooth cheeky bugger!, it took a while to get there bet when they do hoo boy.... I don't want to spoil it for anyone but the cop fantasy was really well written, right amount of steam/funny, really sweet. Enjoyable read from a really talented author, onto the next!
FINALLY! I got this book and I was like FINALLY, DAMMIT!
Allan Cooper is one funny cop. After having a parade of woman, he stumbled to Sophie Willow, young erotic romance writer, cousin of his roomate. Full with curves, Sophie did nothing but intrigued him. What will he do when he find out that The Sex Queen is nothing but inexperienced virgin?
Typical Miss Verdenius! Funny, light, angst free and adorable! Her style of writing is suit me real fine. Though it's not my favorite--because my favorite is still the second book, Mike's story, but this one is definitely worth to read. And worth your money.
It was a funny read but I wish there was more passion. After Sophia finally looses her virginity the story seems to rush by in an unfinished blur. By the end of the story I felt kind of like "huh that was it?" Alan and Sophia's two weeks of "sex lessons" were apparently enough to make them fall in love, boost her self esteem and transform Alan from "man-slut" to husband material. Those must have been some interesting two weeks, too bad the story only shows glimpses of this miraculous turn about.
I truly enjoyed this book, from the beginning to the end. Oh I was so happy for Sophie, finally she knew how beautiful to have your body be loved by the opposite sex with sexual needs. Alan, was a heart breaker in the beginning but he was enjoy lil Sophie. I was so happy this for them. I loved that Ms. Verdenius add Marty and Mike in the story. I applaud you. Now I seriously must go to Australia. Love the lingo.
3.5 stars. It was a lot cuter than I thought it would be. Just the right mix of funny and sexy, but it left a little to be desired with the pace. It took over half the book for the plot to finally get going, and then the ending was so rushed to be wrapped up. I think it would have probably gotten 4.5 from me if it were paced a bit better, either by making the beginning half shorter or the ending half longer.
Those are pretty much all the words that come to mind when thinking about this. Needless to say, I didn't overly enjoy it. I guess dumb heroines and smug man-boys just don't do it for me. And the supposed humor I just didn't find funny at all.....
Not my favourite but still enjoyable...I didn't hate it. I can't say I liked Alan to begin with but he got a whole lot sweeter as the story progressed. Sophie I didn't hate her but she was a tad annoying at times. I'm hoping Sophie's cousin, absentminded but protective and sweet Sam, gets a story.
I found this book discounted via Bargainbooksy. DNF 84% I just finished another book from this author and the tropes were the same: Male nurse, BBQ with friends and family, someone calling sick so the nurse has to work on their day off, many quotes on the fly, and something about being a man-man whatever that is. Don't try this at home (ex. strawberries up the whazoo → author's expression, not mine, and more of these). By 49%, I had enough of her thinking she was less than attractive because she was a BBW. I thought their first time was cold AF, she wasn't prepared enough (very first time for her), he didn't even ask if she wanted that, but just went on with protection and the deed itself. She thought that was hot (eye roll). It's unrealistic to stay in the grass at night; it's wet. At 84%, she's sleeping and he cuffed her; she didn't want that, he refused, I'm done here. I loved Sam and Sam junior and it's a shame we don't see more of them. Editing needs another pass (possessive vs. verb, time count, etc.).
As refreshing as it is to read an Aussie book, this was kind of a let down.
I’ll admit this book is probably one of the better books I’ve read with a plus size mc, but still, it could’ve been better.
First of all there was just a lot of build up and then the time from them getting together to the ending was just so short. Their relationship build up was quite fun to read but then we got like no actual scenes of them together and it was disappointing.
Second of all, the scene where they’re all at the barbecue and Alan and Sophie were doing the pretend shit was just so uncomfortable to read and it was just unnecessary and kind of put me off the book. I don’t know it took me forever to get through that scene and ugh I just hated it.
I also found I enjoyed the build up to them getting together than them actually being together, like it just felt a bit… lame? I don’t know how to explain it.
Anyway this had potential but unfortunately it was a miss for me.
I found that I didn't care about the characters at all and whether or not they got their HEA. I thought that maybe I was just not in the mood for m/f, but I picked up another m/f book after I dnf'd this one, and, even though I had to be at work at 5:45 this morning, I read until I finished, which was 1:35 in the morning. So it really was the case of it being the book and not my reading head space. There was nothing wrong with it, it's just not my cuppa tea. I did appreciate that, on the surface at least, Sophie was happy and confident in her body. I feel as though that may have been undermined later on, though.
I liked this book it was a cute story in and I loved her responses when she was putting on the facade. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five as because I personally felt like there was a lot of time spent on unnecessary scenes but then the really funny parts were over to quick, but maybe that's just me. I would still 100% recommend this book. Especially if you like a little funny in your romantic book.
I really like this author but she seriously missed with this book. I feel that this book was put together of little thoughts she jotted down and then threw together. Her characters usually are built up better. This book actually made me mad after reading her Gully's Fall series 😑
