Coming off a break-up with his latest “friend with benefits”, the last thing Aidan Fitzgerald needs is a family hassle about his bachelor status. But after standing up as godfather for his great-nephew, Mason, that’s just what he gets at the Christening Party. Escaping the wrath of his father and sisters, he wants nothing more than to get to the company Christmas party. There he knows he can knock back a few stiff drinks and find some new no-strings-attached girl to take home for the night.

The last thing Emma Harrison wants is to attend another party—least of all one at work. After throwing the annual life celebration (for the anniversary of her fiancée’s death) with close friends, she’s finally gotten the courage to take matters into her own hands and become a mother. Convincing her slightly inebriated best-friend, Connor, to be her sperm donor was a lot easier than she thought, and all that’s left now is to start the process. But at her best friend and work colleague, Casey’s, insistence, she decides to make an appearance at the company Christmas party for her new boss’s sake.

Neither Aidan nor Emma could imagine what fate had in store for them at the party.

A short story leading up to the first book in this series, The Proposition. I was very much enjoying this until near the end when Emma's behavior revealed a very selfish and childish heroine. This being a novella, I'm hoping the next installment will bring a more mature, likable character.

The Party is a short read that begins in the present day with Emma and Aidan and slowly weaves in and out of the scenes that lead to the The Proposition. Scenes like...Aidan attending his godson's christening and Emma and friends celebrating Travis' life at an annual get together.

We are also treated to the Aidan and Emma's first meeting at the office party where Emma is wearing the infamous green dress.

"Oh, I think you heard me just fine. I would imagine you're not used to getting turned down. But listen very carefully when I say that I do not appreciate being propositioned by the company manwhore."

Wow Aidan that first encounter so didn't go well!

This was a really short, quick read. If it is read before The Proposition, then its a quick introduction to the characters in the series. If read after though, its just an added bonus.

This book is split into two parts:
~NOW: It shows the characters' (Aidan and Emma) life in the present time. I didn't expect for the book to have this in and I actually regret reading this little story at the start of the series. I felt like it was ruining what is to come in the series. It doesn't tell you much but its enough that I thought spoils things.
~THEN: It gives you a bit of insight into what happened prior to The Proposition. This time is briefly mentioned in The Proposition but doesn't go into much detail, so it was nice to actually find out exactly what occurred.

I would suggest reading this book at the end of Aidan and Emma's story, not at the beginning. Even though half of this book takes place before The Proposition, this book doesn't necessarily need to be read before others in this series.

I just can't get enough of Emma and Aidan. EVER. What a great gift from Katie Ashley, an insight to that fateful night at the company Christmas Party. Even though Aidan come across as a major d-bag manwhore, you can help but just love him!

Who knew when Emma told him that he 'was the last man she would ever sleep with' she would be right?

I just love it!

I'm not sure why this novella is label 0.5 instead of 2.5. I actually had a hard time decided which sequence to read. But after reading AJ's review, I decided to read this last.

The first chapter seems like an epilogue to The Proposal, with Emma getting herself ready for Aidan's company Christmas party, while Aidan is at home with baby Noah. Then we are treated to the flashback two years ago before the party that Emma publicly rejected Aidan's pursue.

Emma is having a reunion with Casey, Nate and Connor on the 5th anniversary of her ex-fiance, Travis passing. We learned about their tight friendship with each other and how much she misses a family that she never had. She came up with an idea to get herself pregnant by asking Connor to become her sperm donor.

Meanwhile, Aidan woke up with his Friday night sex buddy by his father demanding his presence at his great nephew, Mason baptism day. As usual, his family is trying to get him married and settle, but he is having non of it.

Later on, he went for his company Christmas Party and that is where he met this redhead that intrigue him with her green dress and shy smile. He decided right there and then that he is going to spend the night with her. But unfortunately, after learning about Aidan's infamous reputation, Emma directly told him off.

Okay, I'm not going to complain as long as I got to read more on Aidan, but as usual reading about prequel usually doesn't add much to the story. I would have much prefer a sequel instead. You know with little Noah and another baby girl on the way. I wish I could read more about Daddy Aidan moments.

This is a cute little addition to the story of Aidan and Emma.

It starts after the events of The Proposal (book 2 in the series, so make sure you read that first to avoid spoilers), with a quick glimpse into their life - Aidan and Emma preparing to go to their work Christmas function. This triggers their memories back to the Christmas party two years ago when they first met and Emma shot Aidan down, unwilling to have anything to do with the company player. Not that I blame her, he's pretty slutty with the come on - I probably would have smacked him! But Em goes for the verbal smackdown.

“I’m going to say this one last time. You are the last man on earth I would ever sleep with … you are one of the most self-absorbed assholes that I have ever met … Leaving here with you and letting you touch one inch of my body would be the most degrading thing I would ever have to go through.”

OOOH, BURN! Lucky for us (and Aidan) she changed her mind!

The story also gives us a bit of a look into their private lives as well – Connor at his manwhoring best, and then surrounded by his well-meaning family, and Emma still mourning her lost love and trying to move forward with her life, and her plans for a baby. It finishes off jumping to two weeks before The Proposition and Emma’s heartbreaking conversation with Connor, setting up her state of mind for the beginning of that book.

I really love Aidan and Emma’s story, and this little extra gives us just a little bit more to put all of the pieces together.

"... we need to toast the day you told off Mr. Aidan Manwhore Fitzgerald."

Can I just say how happy I am that the Aidan in this book is not the same Aidan as the others, he was a freakin douchebag...It was a cute super short back story of how it all started.

The Party by Katie Ashley is an adorable short read for those who love Emma and Aidan as much as I do. This was a wonderful surprise for me to find that their story continued, even if it was just an hour worth of reading, it was an hour of bliss :)

The Party you can read before you read The Proposal or after like I did. It is glimpses of both Emma and Aidan's life before meeting one another as well as the night they met. It is done in both character's POV. I am so glad I found this short and FREE read. This is a must for all you Aidan and Emma fans!

I give The Party 4 stars... I am sad this is it for my favorite book couple!

Me likey! More Aidan and Emma? Yes, please! Katie Ashley is one of my favorite authors! I love it when the author releases little snippets of events that happened in the original. I love the cover, too. Looks like she just finished knocking him upside the head, which his cocky azz deserved.

On a side note, is it possible to heart a character that has passed away years ago wasn't even a main character? I think I heart Travis!

I enjoy reading novellas, and as far as novellas go The Party is a pretty good one! It is a prequel to The Proposition that features the company Christmas party scene where Aidan first sees Emma.

What I loved:

-that there was a build up leading up to the party
-we get to witness Aidan's manwhore-ish ways (what a player he is!)
-the sweet conversation with Aidan and Megan
-how supportive and close knit Emma's friends are
-Emma asking Connor that important question
-how it shows Emma's great desire to have a child
-the super cute cover!

My only minor issue is that the preface, which is adorable, is slightly spoiler-ish of the end of The Proposal. If you haven't started reading this series yet, you might want to take that into consideration. Overall, this is a wonderful prequel. I really enjoyed getting more of Aidan and Emma.

I really dont want to rate this since it was free but if I did, I would rate it a 2, since it's not a story in of itself. Just a prologue . . . . with a prologue. I read the main book - The Proposition - before I read this and I wouldnt have missed anything if I had never read it.

Salve lettori,

The Party is a novella in author Katie Ashley's The Proposition series. The Party is the prequel; Aidan and Emma's life and relationships before their future interactions in The Proposition. It was interesting but not overly exciting. However, what bumped my rating up from a 2 1/2 or 3-star rating was reading about when Aidan and Emma first meet! Yeah, there is attraction there right away on both sides but when Emma's friends tell her about Aidan's reputation, I loved the way she turned him down! Also, this novella shows some stress in Emma and Connor's friendship when . This novella is not a necessity for reading the The Proposition and The Proposal but I did enjoy reading some of the events that were mentioned in those books. I rated The Party 3 1/2 stars rounding up to 4 on goodreads.

My favorite quote:
"'So picture it-' Emma giggled. 'What is this, the Golden Girls with Sophia and 'Picture it- Sicily?' Connor cleared his throat. 'Can I just tell my damn story please?' 'Fine, fine.'"

Although The Party is technically a prequel to The Proposition I took the advice of other reviewers and read it after the rest of the series which I think was probably for the best. Although I do think you could read this first if you want to get an idea of Katie Ashley's writing style I think I enjoyed it more because I'm already invested in the characters. If this is your first encounter with the couple you probably won't end up with the best impression of Aidan but trust me he will really grow on you in The Proposition, he is much sweeter than you'd think after reading this!

The first chapter is like an epilogue for The Proposal and it was really nice to catch up with Emma and Aidan, this is the kind of romance I wanted more of in the second book! Of course being an epilogue that does mean it gives you minor spoilers for the series but I don't think anyone picks up a romance story not expecting the couple to be together by the end so I wouldn't consider it a major problem.

After the first chapter you take a step back in time to two years previously and get to see Emma and Aidan's first meeting. If you've read the series already you'll know that they didn't exactly hit it off immediately but it was amusing to see their first encounter and I had to laugh at the things Emma said to Aidan!

At 44 pages this is a very quick read but it does give a nice little extra background into the characters and was enjoyable to read. I always appreciate it when authors go out of their way to give their fans little extras so this free read is one I'd happily recommend.
