The planets have always fascinated me. I used to sit down and examine our book on the solar system (aptly named The Solar System) and read the text, ogle the pictures, and generally stew over the whole idea of space. Where does it end? How big is it, really? And why is it so big to begin with? I used to think myself dizzy over these questions.
I’m not saying that Saturn answers these questions – it doesn’t. But it supplies information about the sixth and second-largest planet from its “discovery” by Galileo to the most recent photographs and findings. Here are a few interesting facts included in Saturn.
Did you know…
•That because Saturn is composed primarily of hydrogen and helium, it is lightweight and, were a large enough body of water provided, it would float?!?
•That Phoebe, one of Saturn’s moons, is about the size of the states of New Hampshire and Vermont combined. It also orbits Saturn in the opposite direction of all of the other moons!
•That Titan, another of Saturn’s moons, has a diameter that is 200 miles larger than that of the planet Mercury?
•That it takes Saturn thirty Earth years to orbit the sun?
Conclusion. Excellent.
