Bhoomiyude Avakashikal, Umma - read this book for these two stories esp, the second one - a master @work.

Just a very short novel with some thought provoking ideas. The highlight of the book is the first story which has the same name as the book. It talks about a simple man's aspirations to achieve piece with nature and his despair when he realises that the current order has no problem with violence. It is expressed in plain language which is a trademark of Basheer's works and it will easily connect with the reader.
But for me, the story I liked the most was Swarnamala(Gold Locket). It speaks about the different emotions a man goes through while waiting for the results of a Diabetes Test. It may seem simple but the concept of relinquishing many things in your life is actually painful and Basheer has been successful in putting those emotions to the paper. Also, the part where the protagonist feels like he is drowning to death was marked with perfection that can only be achieved by such a gifted author.
Also, the stories talking of his real life experiences and the 'Pazham'(Banana) and all other stories were filled with the emotions of a common man and the simplicity makes the novel complex in nature (I know the last line has no meaning but just wanted to end this review on something like that).

8 ബഷീർ മാസ്മരികത ചെറുകഥകൾ.
നമ്മുടെ സാദാ ചിന്തകൾക്കപ്പുറം, ഇതു വരെ ചിന്തിക്കാത്ത കേൾക്കാത്ത പറയാത്ത കഥകൾ. പച്ചയായ കഥനം. വേണ്ടുവോളം ഫിലോസഫി, ചുറ്റും കാണുന്ന മുഖങ്ങൾ, സംഭാഷണങ്ങൾ, സന്ദർഭങ്ങൾ, എല്ലാറ്റിനുമുപരി ഒട്ടൊന്ന് മുന്നിൽ നിൽക്കുന്ന സർഗ്ഗാത്മകത അതാണ് ബഷീർ കഥകൾ.
കാലത്തിനു മുന്നേ സഞ്ചരിച്ചവൻ എന്ന് പറയാനാവില്ല, ഏതു കാലത്തിനുമതീനമാണ് ഈ കഥകളൊക്കെയും. ഇവയുടെ പ്രസക്തി മനുഷ്യനുള്ളടത്തോളം കാലവും അതിനു മുൻമ്പും പിൻമ്പും ഒരു പോലെ നിലനിൽക്കും.
എല്ലാ കഥകളും കഥാകാരൻറ്റെ സ്വന്തം ജീവിതാനുഭവങ്ങൾ, അതിശയോക്തി കലർന്നതെങ്കിലും, വ്യത്യസ്ത നൂലുകൾ കൂട്ടി ഭംഗിയായി ഇഴകി ചേർത്തു സത്യമേത് മിഥ്യയേത് എന്ന വേർതിരിവില്ലാതെ ഒരു വസ്ത്രം പോലുള്ളവ.

ഒറ്റ ഇരുപ്പില് വായിക്കാന് കഴിയുന്ന ഒരു ചെറു പുസ്തകം. ബഷീറിന്റെ തനത് രചനാ ശൈലിയുടെ മറ്റൊരു വകഭേദം. നര്മ്മവും, അതിനൊപ്പം തന്നെ കുറിക്ക് കൊള്ളുന്ന ജീവിത പരമാര്ഥങ്ങളും പുസ്തകത്തിന്റെ ആഖ്യാന പരതക്ക് മിഴിവേകുന്നു. ആദ്യ അദ്ധ്യായമായ ഭൂമിയുടെ അവകാശികള് എന്ന കഥയുടെ പേരാണ് ബഷീര് ഈ പുസ്തകത്തിന് ആകെ നല്കിയിരിക്കുന്നത്. ഒരുപക്ഷെ ഇതിലുള്ള എല്ലാ കഥകളിലെയും സാരാംശം ഈ ഒരൊറ്റ ശീര്ഷകത്തില് ഉള്ക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നത് തന്നെയാണ് വസ്തുത. മനുഷ്യനും ജീവികളും ഒക്കെ ഒന്നായി വസിക്കേണ്ടുന്ന ഈ ഭൂമിയുടെ യഥാര്ഥ അവകാശികള് ആര് എന്ന പരമമായ ചോദ്യം ബഷീര് ഉന്നയിക്കുന്നു. തേന്മാവ് എന്ന കഥയിലെ വികാരാനുഭവവും, മോഹഭംഗത്തിലെ നര്മ്മ-ഇച്ഛാ കേന്ദ്രീകൃതമായ അവസാനവും, നോട്ട് ഇരട്ടിക്കലിലെ ആക്ഷേപഹാസ്യ പ്രധാനമായ പ്രമേയവും, ആദ്യത്തെ കഥയിലെ ജീവിത വീക്ഷണത്തിന്റെ ഔപചാരികമായ തുടക്കവും, എന്റെ ഉമ്മയിലെ ജീവിത ഗന്ധിയായ കടുംബബന്ധത്തിലധിഷ്ടിതമായ അനുഭവങ്ങളും, സ്വര്ണ്ണമാലയിലെ ഭ്രമകല്പനമായ അന്ത്യവും, പഴത്തിലെ കരളലിയിക്കുന്ന ജീവിത സാഹചര്യങ്ങളും ഒക്കെ നമ്മുടെ മനസ്സിനെ വല്ലാതെ സ്പര്ശിക്കുന്ന തരത്തിലുള്ളവയാണ്. ബഷീറിനെ കൂടുതല് അടുത്തറിയും തോറും അയാള് നമ്മിലെവിടെയോ ഉള്ചേര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്ന ഏതോ ഒരു സ്വത്വത്തിന്റെ പുനരാവിഷ്കരണമായി നമുക്ക് അനുഭവപ്പെടുന്നു. ആ തിരിച്ചറിവാണ് ഏതൊരു വായനക്കാരനെയും അയാളിലേക്ക് അടുപ്പിക്കുന്നതും.

ഇത്രയും സരസമായ ഒരഖ്യാനം ബഷീര് കൃതികളില് മാത്രമേ കാണാനാകൂ. ബഷീറിന്റെ ചിന്താരീതികള് തന്നെ വ്യത്യസ്തമാണ്. ഒരു മനുഷ്യനായി ചിന്തിക്കുക എന്നത് അത്ര എളുപ്പമല്ല. അങ്ങനെ ചിന്തിക്കാനും പ്രകൃതിയോടും മറ്റ് ജീവജാലങ്ങളോടും സംവദിക്കാനും അദ്ദേഹം സമയം കണ്ടെത്തി.

In my 2022 reading goals, I had included that I want to experiment more with my regional language books and so chose the most celebrated and renowned author, Basheer. Although I have studied this book in my school times, it was refreshing and insightful to listen the book as Audio Book and gather new ideas about the author, his perspectives and his flowery language. Being a Multi lingual, I can assure that Malayalam is one of the most tricky and tough languages in India for it's complexity in script. Yet it can be as beautiful as a stream flowing down between the forest if you try reading Basheer. I'm glad that I chose to brush up my previous reading and reading the original text.

This book contains, collection of short stories which is narrated in such a beautiful way that lets the reader stay awestruck, for long.
I must say, even though I haven't read a lot of Malayalam books, I always feel Vaikom Muhammad Basheer has a way to create everything he writes into a masterpiece.
This is a small part of his entire stories. And indeed a great read.

ബഷീറിന്റെ ജീവിതവും ബഷീറിന്റെ ലോകവും എട്ട് കഥകളായി നമുക്ക് മുന്നിലെത്തുന്ന പുസ്തകം. മനുഷ്യർക്ക് മാത്രം ചാർത്തി കിട്ടിയ വിശേഷണമല്ല 'ഭൂമിയുടെ അവകാശികൾ' എന്നും അതിൽ സർവ ജീവജാലങ്ങളും ഉൾപ്പെടുമെന്നും എഴുത്തുകാരൻ അഭിപ്രായപ്പെടുന്നു. ആത്മബന്ധങ്ങളെ, വികാരങ്ങളെ, ഹൃദയമൂല്യങ്ങളെ ഒക്കെ തന്റെ ജീവിതാനുഭവങ്ങളുമായി ചേർത്ത് ബഷീർ ഈ ചെറുകഥകളെ വലിയ കഥകളാക്കി മാറ്റുന്നു.
