Rate this book
In England, in 1786, Katherine Randolph is a continual embarrassment. Challenging Jonathan Drew to a curricle race tips the scales. She is sent to America to stay until society forgets her latest faux pas.

Jonathan Drew is a spy for the British. When his government receives news the French are seeking American support for an uprising in Canada, Jonathan is sent to destroy the operation.

Meanwhile, Katherine involves herself in the Constitutional Convention. She enjoys the free lifestyle and has no desire to wed and give up her independence. Jonathan shares her view on both subjects.

Will they manage to work together to thwart the rebellion? Can they understand that independence can go in tandem with love?

A book was always my escape. Our public library, above the Fire Hall, contained a limited amount of reading material of interest to a child, so after finishing books for my age group, I was allowed into the adult area. WOW! One day I discovered FOREVER AMBER. For the time, a very risque book. Fortunately, my mother believed reading promoted thinking and permitted me to read anything.

All types of history and biographies of famous people--particular women--became my favorites.
My first three books: MOONCUSSERS, MEMORIES, and THE CHALLENGE are historical romance novels with a mystery woven through. All take place in American in the late 1700's. The first has impressments, a shipwreck and wreckers, mystery and romance. The second is a time-travel involving a museum conservator and a Lenape Indian. Finally, the third centers around the writing of the U.S. Constitution and a woman searching for personal freedom. Please check these out on Amazon and read a Sample.

My fourth is SECRETS IN THE LOWCOUNTRY--THE RIVER, a contemporary mystery, romance, and first in a series. The older couple, Mary and Martin Harris will move to a Continual Care Retirement Community where murders seem the norm and romance blossoms in very strange situations.

I love watching, listening and observing people. Where they live, what they do or don't do for a living, how they live their lives, who their friends are and why. Their actions and ideas become fodder for writing and developing characters. Each new place one visits. Each person one meets. Each situation one experiences. Gather these together and a book is created.

I don't normally read historical romance but this book was great. Katherine was a fabulous main character and I was always wondering what she would do next. The story got a little slow in the middle but it got back on track and had a very satisfying ending. I'll be seeking out more books by Janet Cooper.
