"Suppose you are both telling the truth, magic exists, and you both are part of a prophecy. Where do I fall in all of this? Why are you both here in my life?" ~Maggie

Maggie Sanders suffered an injury while at war in Afghanistan, one that left her honorably discharged from the army. Now she is home in Washington D.C. running her mothers used bookstore. While working she accidently cuts her hand on a broken edge of her glass counter. Se watches as blood spills from her hand on to a book she was just reading and unknowingly summons King Arthur Pendragon. THE King Arthur.

Legend states when the King Arthur is needed most he will return. What if the legends are wrong?

Arthur has been trapped on Avalon( a mythical island) with his men, his wife Gwen and Lancelot. Unbeknownst to the others Arthur has a portal and from time to time has been summoned randomly to people who need assistance. The last time he was summoned he barely escaped with his life. Nevertheless he can’t help but wonder will he will be going this time.

‘His excitement swirled with a hint of dread. Where would he go this time, and who would he have to kill?’

Maggie thinks she is having heart attack when she is knocked off her feet on to the floor. After getting back on her feet she suddenly comes to realize that a man is under the ruble. A NAKED man.
Arthur does not sense any trouble coming Maggie’s way so he asks her point blank
"My lady, why am I here?"

Unfortunately she can’t answer him. She has no clue why or how he is even there. Slowly she comes to realize there is more to the naked man who magically appeared in her bookstore. And that may be just maybe he is who he claims to be Arthur Pendragon. As he and Maggie start to build a friendship other familiar characters surface. Both Merlyn and Arthur work to find a way to free the others from Avalon while a friend turned enemy plans to fight Arthur for the woman he loves.

My Thoughts
This was a quick fun take on a legend who is familiar to us all. We get a brokenhearted Arthur who is still clearly upset about the betrayal of his wife Gwen and Lancelot getting together. This is written in a fantasy manner and sort of reminded me of the movie Enchanted were classic characters cross over in to the real world. Of course this had a bit more of a sexy edge to it with a couple sex scenes that will leave you squirming in your seat. Overall I enjoyed it!

My Ratings
Characters- Sweet
Writing Style- Good
Plot/Storyline- Light and Fun with classical characters brought to life
Steam Factor- Medium//Moderately Steamy
Overall- I liked it!!!

Now go forth and read. Then come tell us about it on Goodreads!

Maggie Sanders is now running her mother's bookstore, after being honorably discharged from they army for her leg injury. One day, she notices a book and it intrigues her. She opens it only to learn that it is in Latin and she can't read it. Frustrated, she pushes the book aside and accidentally cuts her finger and her blood falls onto the open book. Without knowing it, she has just summoned King Arthur.

King Arthur has been imprisioned on Avalon with his wife Gwen, Lancelot, and his men for an undefined long period of time. He was standing in his room when all of a sudden, he finds himself being pulled towards his wall length mirror. Everytime that he has been summoned, he had to kill or almost died. He has been wanting a change from his mundane everyday life but he doesn't know if this was exactly what he had in mind.

Maggie doesn't know what just happened. One moment, she was standing in her bookstore, everything in order, and the next everything is in utter chaos and there is a large muscular naked man just lying there. Arthur wants to know why she summoned him and Maggie just thinks he is an escapee from the loony bin. But then, Merlyn shows up asking if she would please take care of Arthur while he figures out what happened. She agrees and soon they find themselves falling for each other.

"Good start. You're Arthur. Now, what do you want? Why are you here and why are you naked?"
"To be honest, I don't know why I'm here. I am naked because that is how I always arrive, never really questioned why."

****************

He worked very hard, treated her with respect, and he was amazingly good looking. She could come to like this man, which instantly made him dangerous.

I thought it was a good twist on a classic. The sex scenes were really steamy and entertaining because Arthur had no idea about what acts were done in the twenty first century. I enjoyed the character's reactions to each other. There were some funny moments as well. The only thing I can say is, I wish it was longer. Overall, it was a good short read!

Another freebie I got ages ago that I now have only just read, oops! Moving on... I generally thought that King Takes Queen was going to be set in the times of King Arthur and all of the legends surrounding his time. However, this story is set in the present day, with some characters and a few flashbacks from the past. This did throw me off a little. Maggie is an ex-soldier of the US Army but after getting injured finds herself running a used bookstore owned by her Mum. After finding a book in Latin and injuring her hand in the process, she awakens the spirit of King Arthur who lands in the bookstore naked and confused. Time-travel is one of my favourite aspects of a book, but sadly this one wasn't my favourite. I struggled to connect with the characters as well.

King Arthur and several of his knights have been trapped in Avalon for centuries. The only reprieve being when he is sent every so often via a magic mirror portal to Earth to fight in wars. This time, when the mirror calls him through, he arrives in a bookstore, faced down by a former female army captain. She’s scarred from a mine explosion and lonely. As they wait for Merlin, who is currently living in the present, to answer why King Arthur was called there, they fall in love.

I did love the romance between the two characters, even with the plot feeling like a fan fiction to give Arthur an HEA. Maggie felt like a fully fleshed character with her scars, her backstory, her trauma turning into light PTSD, and the whole tough attitude (which, yes, I’m very tired of all the tough chicks in indie books these days, but it works here since she has the backstory of being a former army captain). Arthur himself felt thin on backstory and personality (other than being a dream boyfriend type). Once he first goes to the mortal realm, there was nothing that really screamed King Arthur about him. It was also like Maggie didn’t really seem to accept the idea that he was Arthur. Magic, yes, Arthur, no. Like when she asked him about watching movies and what does he want on his pizza. If she had truly accepted the idea that he was an ancient king, she’d have realized he most likely not have any contact with either one. In one sentence she says she has read all about him, and known about him for her entire life, but in the very next sentence, she asks if he has a girlfriend or married. If she knew about him her entire life, she would have known about Guinevere. Seriously, if you know anything about Arthurian lore, you know about Arthur, Lancelot, and Guinevere. For that matter, up until the end, his other knights are glossed over namelessly as “the men”. I wish Merlyn had been broadened as a character, too, though I did like the spin on him. The masquerade scene felt like an excuse to have the characters dress up, since there didn’t seem to be any reason for it.

King Takes Queen was a quick read overall at about 150 pages. I liked the characters and the modern/time travel slant that the author took with the story.

King Author, Lady Gwen, Lancelot and some other Knights of the Roundtable have been thrust in a limbo situation. All the other characters cannot leave but Author is somehow transported magically to whoever "calls" him when they are in need. As a result, he has seen the world in small snippets while he was outside in the modern world. Task completed -- he returns to the state of in between a bitter man betrayed by his best friend Lancelot and his queen, Gwen.

That is until Maggie comes along. Maggie is a wounded warrior. A modern day soldier who was hurt in the Middle East. Now returned and on the mend from her injuries, she takes over her mother's bookstore. A lover of books at heart, Maggie begins to take stock of all the books that are in the book store to see what she can move to her private collection. Spying an really aged book, Maggie flips through it and accidentally cuts herself on a sharp piece of metal. Her finger is pricked, blood is spilled onto the pages of the book and King Arthur is thrust into her life.

And what happens between them is...MAGICAL!

I truly appreciated how the author modernized the story and made it her own while staying true to some of the historical facets of the story. Oh and there is a "Merlin" in this story, too. Verrrrry interesting how he is portrayed. I had to laugh at how the author characterized him.

All in all, a wonderfully quick and enjoyable read for anyone who enjoys time travel romance.

Yes, I'm pretty much a sucker for an Arthurian Legend!

This was a great new twist on the often told story. Just like Arthur, Monica Corwin brought the old tale to modern day, dusted it off and polished it up til it shone like the time traveling portal/mirror that was used to bring him forward in time.

Female MC is Maggie - she's an independent woman, former Army Soldier, working hard to run her Mother's Book Shop. She has quite a bit of survivor's guilt for surviving when her teams convoy was blown up and has walled herself off from almost everyone because of this issue. Even with these issues she is a strong & thoroughly modern Milly and not afraid to go after what she wants.

Male MC is Arthur (Pendragon) - he and a few of his companions have been trapped in Avalon for thousands of years by some sort of curse. His only escape is when he is summoned through the mirror to help fight wars. This time he is dropped NAKED into Maggie's shop and it trying to work out what he is here to accomplish. He becomes fascinated with her and her feisty demeanor.

I completely devoured this retelling. The attraction and "connection" between these two was as complex as their personalities. The intense & steamy tension makes for some great sexy sheet time. I enjoyed how the plot of finding a way to release those trapped by the curse wove in and through the romance that developed.

This did have a HFN ending...hoping there's more stories where this came from.

I received a review copy of Monica Corwin's Legend's Fall and I'm very glad I read it. While I'm not a fan of romance novels, I'm a big fan of Arthurian legends so I was looking forward to giving something a little bit different from my normal reading a try. The book did not disappoint. It's a fun, light, and slightly steamy hybrid fantasy/romance read that was a good choice for people like me who enjoy a few romantic scenes in books rather than a true outright romance. Perhaps it may be considered a bit light on the romance aspect for avid romance readers, but it filled the bill nicely for me. There's enough sizzle for some pleasant titillation while there's also an engaging story.

The premise that Arthur was trapped in Avalon awaiting a summons to come and help with battles was a fun way to shift beloved characters into a contemporary setting. I particularly liked the way there was the flavor of Dark Ages England without all of the normal sword and sorcery stilted dialog that tends to occur in Arthurian fantasies. There are so many poor attempts at archaic speech out there that it was very refreshing to encounter an Arthur who doesn't speak as though he just stepped out of a bad sonnet. Since Arthur had some experiences in 20th Century warfare he's a little bit acclimated to modern life and not quite a fish out of water. His speech patterns are just different enough that I found him charming, but readily accessible. When our heroine Maggie accidentally triggers the spell that brings Arthur into her life the mayhem it causes makes for an entertaining read. Arthur recognizes a few of the modern conveniences, but he still needs a lot of guidance dealing with the 21st century.

The romance was allowed to develop in a steady and believable fashion. One thing that turns me off about romances is the sudden deep devotion that happens all too often. The characters have more breathing room in Legend's Fall than I've come to expect from a romance novel, so their relationship didn't strain my credibility. Arthur and Maggie held my interest and made me root for them. That very seldom happens when I read a romance. I wanted to see what happened to them as people. I didn't just look for the juicy parts and skim over the rest. This was a book worth brewing a pot of tea and sitting down to really enjoy.

I will share with you all a little secret. So, when I was in high school in my English class we read about King Arthur. I always loved reading that story or any assignment that had to do with him. So when Monica asked me to read this and told me what it was about, I knew I had to read it. I always had a little thing for King Arthur. :)

Anyhow, lets get down to business.

This is a great short story. There is a couple of sex scenes that are like, Oh yeah!!! It made me love King Arthur even more.

I loved how Monica brought in such a amazing characters in this book. If you are a fan of King Arthur then you will love this book. Even if your not and looking for a hot book that will take you on a magical journey then you will like this book. It's really enjoyable for being a short book.

I was provided an ARC for exchange for an honest review.

Monica Corwin is a new author I have discovered. I loved the story she weaved of King Arthur and the legend of his return.

Maggie Sanders is still recovering after her discharge from the Army, following her injury, she is trying to get her life back on track. When one day she is surprised by a strange, handsome man in her place. Who is he and what does he want?

Arthur Pendragon, legendary King, has been trapped in Avalon for 1500 years. He isn’t sure why he is able to leave, and has no choice in the matter. Arthur doesn’t know why he is summoned or by whom, so he needs to find out what he’s been tasked to do.

With characters like King Arthur, Merlin, and Lancelot how could you go wrong? I’m not sure my review can convey how much I liked this story. For me it was a great twist on the legend. I really enjoyed this author’s version of Arthur’s story. So come along as historical characters come to life in the present.

D'awww, this was a story that left me with the warm and fuzzies! Though I got a little lost at points with the purpose behind the mirror, the characters were very well fleshed out, and I have to say, Maggie's one of the best heroines I've seen in awhile. If you're a fan of King Arthur and crew, add this to your collection!

Thoroughly enjoyed King Takes Queen by Monica Corwin. I've always wanted King Arthur to have a happy ending and was truly delighted with the unique and creative premise of this story. It has romance, time travel, humor and of course a dash of magic as the old steadfast Merlin appears as a young teenager with headphones - perfect.

Maggie, a strong young woman and former military, was severely injured in the Middle East and is now trying to put her life back together. She's struggling to bring her mother's old bookstore back to life when she finds an ancient book and with an accidental drop of blood that splashes onto a page, she somehow summons King Arthur. King Arthur, along with Lady Gwen, Sir Lancelot and four other Knights have been trapped on the island of Avalon for 1500 years. Only Arthur has been pulled through a magical mirror over the years when summoned to help and he wears the scars of numerous battles over his body. When he makes a less than gallant entrance into Maggie's bookstore, the force of his entrance wreaking havoc and upending books and bookcases, and leaving him naked and confused, Maggie thinks he's beyond crazy. With the help of Merlin, Maggie is convinced to let Arthur stay with her until Merlin can figure some things out. During this time they both realize the chemistry between them is a force unto itself and a passionate romance develops.

Really great read and I'd strongly recommend it. I voluntarily reviewed an author's copy of this book.

Bought a long, long time ago. Back when the book was named "Legend's Fall". I've started and stopped reading it a couple times. I've put it down and made an effort to pick it back up again.

An okay story. Enough happening to be pleasant, but brings nothing new to the Camelot mythos. Arthur is yummy, but does not take over a room. The heroine is a little stronger than normal for someone who hooks up for Arthur in a romance book because of her military background, but one of the way-way-early versions of the Camelot legend has him falling for an infertile Celtic battle queen and sorceress (Gwenhwyfar) before the later, tamer legends written by the French have him ending up with an infertile English/Roman lady (Guinevere) - (dude had problems with his wives not having children, hence Modred by a lady-of-the-courts and later his half-sister, depending on the legend) so Maggie could have gone much, much further.

I like the healing of Maggie spirit - she is the most real of all the characters, but overall the story is "meh". Okay, but not great.

Maggie, now out of the Army has the scars to prove it. She has always been fascinated with the legend of King Arthur, so when a very naked man comes in claiming to be that very same Arthur, she just laughs. How could someone from that time be here in present day in her bookstore? Ever since Arthur and his team has been trapped on Avalon, he gets pulled to different time periods to fight. He never expected a beautiful woman would be here unknown to what his purpose was. When Merlyn comes in looking for the book in which Maggie summoned Arthur unknowingly, explains that Arthur is exactly who he says. While Merlyn tries to break this curse, Maggie and Arthur get to know each other, but will Arthur get sent back before he and Maggie can form any type of relationship? Can't wait to see what happens next!

I liked quite a bit of this. I usually avoid all books that have a military aspect to them. I was drawn into reading because of the King Arthur inclusion. What I liked was Arthur and the Avalon characters. What what I didn't particularly like was the attention to Converse and the whole woman that is a wounded soldier. She felt fake to me.

Romantic Authorian Legend in the 21st Century

It was interesting, I've read Authorian romances in the past. This one I enjoyed because of the slight difference within it. I don't want to give out a spoiler but the writer took a legend and modernized it very well.

Being a huge fan of all things Arthurian and even bigger fan of Ms. Corwin herself, I happily and deliciously got lost in this offering!

I love the aspect of time travel and how its incorporated into the overall storyline. Consigned to a hazy, purgatorial dimension, Arthur, Lancelot, some members of the Round Table posse and of course, Guinevere, these characters do their best to go about business as usual.

Arthur, however, bears the singular power to leave this place…but only if summoned by one who needs him most. Throughout time, he's been called for and appeared, completing his eternal mission before vanishing back to limbo and awaiting the next quest, so to speak. Because of this, the Once and Future King, appears to have marginally adapted to the changes in the world around him as time passes on. Each summoning and each return takes it toll on Arthur, the bright eyed boy who would be king and the jaded, lonely man he's become.

Meet Maggie. A modern woman warrior full of strength and dreams, she returns from active military duty after being wounded in the war in the Middle East. Doing her best to heal, both inside and out, she takes on her mom's bookstore and busily does her best to help the store succeed. I adore the way she 'finds' Arthur, absolutely perfect…and full of magic.

I adore how Ms. Corwin held true to some of the more detailed aspects of Arthurian folklore and managed to blend her vision with a modern twist.

I highly recommend this read to any and all who enjoy a solid plot, fantastic writing and characters who capture your heart and imagination.

>Book Review – King Takes Queen

>I am an independent reviewer. This book is a standalone novel with an HEA. The story is a time travel take upon the King Arthur story. Maggie is a war veteran, injured and disillusioned. She is trying to set up and run an old book store while dealing with her injury and PTSD. After finding an unusual book, a naked man appears in her store. Arthur is used to being sucked in to the future, usually to fight in wars or to help someone. As a result, he isn’t as uncomfortable in the future as he should be.

>The story goes back and forth from present times to medieval. I didn’t quite get the significance of Maggie playing chess with Lancelot, except to justify the title of this story. The attraction from Maggie to Arthur is hot and the addition of a teenaged Merlin was quite funny. The story was missing something, though. Arthur was a bit bland, handsome, but bland. He didn’t have an alpha or king-like personality. The conclusion of the story involving the magic portal seemed too simple. After all, all of the Camelot characters were trapped in a time warp for ages, how could the solution be so simple? There needed to be a quest in the present time period to prove worthiness to stay and be free.

>This story is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving the story 3 stars. I like the King Arthur story, but not this King Arthur.

This book presents the legend of Arthur Pendragon in a unique way; it is an awe-inspiring romantic story with a paranormal edge. The chemistry between the two lead characters is prevailing and realistic. The book is well-written and engages the reader immediately. The author has created an interesting concept with just enough differences to make it memorable. She managed to pack in enough character development to keep me invested in this couple's relationship and the story line was perfectly paced. I can't wait to see where it's headed next!

This was a lovely, upbeat little story with a little steam, a lot of smiles - I can't wait to see where it's headed next!

I picket up this novella to try out this author, and see if her writing style meshed with me. I knew that she had written a series about the four horsemen of the apocalypse, and I was intrigued. King takes Queen was my "try it before you buy it". And boy, was I glad I tried it! Corwin's style of storytelling is fun and easy to read, mixing just the right amount of humor with just the right amount of punch. I enjoyed King takes Queen from beginning to end, and wanted more when it was over, which says a lot for the quality of this novella.

It helped that I'm something of a Arthurian junkie myself; this story was all ready right up my alley. I promptly bought the horsemen series, and am looking forward to starting it as soon as possible.
