That’s what Melody Ravenswood was counting on when she invented a new life for herself as Mel Harper in the small farming community of Willowbrook, Texas. She could be herself, whoever that was. Hank Travis is the last thing Mel needs in her new life. The local boy turned rock and roll star’s sexy, won’t take no for an answer pursuit makes her long for a life she has only dreamed of. Before Mel can have the future she wants with Hank, she must confront her past and find the Melody she lost along the way.
Dolores has been married to the same wonderful guy for thirty-three years. They have two lovely daughters and a black lab. She makes her home in the wilds of New Jersey (yes, there are wilds in NJ). A Texan with familial roots that go all the way back to the Republic of Texas, Dolores says you can take the girl out of Texas, but...well, you know the rest. She's been a stay-at-home mom for most of her married life - a job she says is under-rated on the difficulty scale. Now that her girls are grown, she's still available to them anytime, day or night, but she fills her days with writing romance novels and reading. Dolores is a best-selling, multi-published author of erotic romance under the pseudonym, Roz Lee.
For me, Lost Melody was a love story in the true sense of the word - very focused on the central relationship between the hero and heroine. At 94K words in length there really was the space to develop this story in a beautiful way. Ms. Maroney fully explored Hank and Melody's motivations and frustrations, and the complexity of their growing feelings for one another. As a reader I was left feeling as if I knew these people and the town of Willowbrook intimately. As an author of novella-length stories myself, Lost Melody made me want to tackle a longer project! I lived Melody's pain that stemmed from her past. I "got" Hank's need for a sense of normality outside the crazy world of rock music. Can a romance be both sweet and sexy? Yes, in this case it was definitely that - a sweet love story with an underlying simmering sensuality that gave the relationship both depth and credibility. I highly recommend Lost Melody if you enjoy grand contemporary romance with just a hint of spice - and of course if you want a fascinating, behind-the-scenes peek at the world of music recording as an added bonus!
I just adored this book. It will pull on your heartstrings and make you a little weepy! It is totally worth the tissues you will need. Melody and Hank's story was so touching and heartfelt. I really connected with both Melody and Hank. It was wonderful to see that two damaged people that have such trust issues could overcome them and let love and trust in again.
This is not a quick fix book, they both have issues and the story follows the amount of time and trust that it takes to work through such issues. It was refreshing to see time and effort put into fixing the issues and not some quick unbelievable fix that you see in other books. It was a honest love story with a wonderful HEY! Oh yeah, the love scenes were great too!
It was a wonderful book of love and discovery! A very nice book to read on a lazy sunny day! Give this book a try! It is so good!
I have found myself reading authors who are new to me lately and have been very pleasantly surprise. Lost Melody by Dolores W. Maroney was truly a wonderful surprise. I was expecting light and sweet and got smack in the face by real emotions. I even found tears running down my cheek many times It was a beautiful story of a women dealing with a famous father (who was a musician) who died when she was a child. She was dealing with a lot of pain over his death. She meets and falls in love with another musician, something she vow never to do. The journey to true love is not easy. I fell in love with Hank and Melody and I know you will too!
A wonderful story of love conquering all in a world full of groupies and roadies, the music industry, seems to be a tough life. After much resistance from Melody, she realizes they are meant to be together and Hank wins her love.
Was fantastic, plan on reading it over and over, not going to spoil it for anyone else, you need to read this and soak it all in, then you'll want to read it again to kick in the imagination running of a HOT man.....
It seems I have a thing for rockstars. Getting a story with not only sexy rockstars but small town romance, meddling family members and wonderful characters? Yes, please! Lost Melody was a great read and kept me very entertained with writing that was as seductive as the music the band created.
The gist is that Melody--the child of a famous rockstar who passed away years ago-- has moved to this small town to hide out from the paparazzi that is hounding her over her father. Unfortunately the small town she picks? It has it's own claim to fame and a famous rockstar in it's midst too. A famous rockstar that sets his sights on getting to know her which is the last thing she wants since rockstars only break hearts and this one in particular will force her to confront her past...
Hank Travis? I. Loved. Him. He's a talented drummer, at the top of his career and most definitely a celebrity but he is so damn down to earth. He loves the excitement of his job but he loves his quiet home life on his farm in a small town just as much. I really liked getting to see both sides of him and that he was just...crafty at making sure he got time with the reluctant Melody. Did I mention sexy drummer?
I liked Melody as well. She's spent most of her life hiding from the media and has a lot of baggage to work through with guilt over her father's death, a connect between her father and Hank's musical career and hearing for years that musicians only bring heartache from her mother. I liked seeing her take charge of her life but did have an issue with how she went about it--pushing Hank away because she needed to 'do it on her own'. I would have rather seen her do so with Hank at her side or at least not taken months to figure it all out. The man had the patience of a saint.
The secondary characters were really great as well. The bits you see of the band while they create their next album, the small town, his father and her uncle. I loved the feel they brought to the pages. They're warm, they meddle, they're comforting. They're people you would want to be surrounded with. He and his bandmates love the gig but they love their families more and it really had me falling for all of them. Seeing them with the kids, wives, neighbors and dogs. You just can't help but smile over them.
There were so many things to love about Lost Melody. From the close community to the down to earth band to the hero that was just swoon-worthy and the seductive music. It just had a great feel to it and will definitely have me reading more from Maroney in the future.
LOST MELODY is a heartwarming, contemporary romance about a down-to-earth rock star falling in love with the daughter of a rock star legend.
Mel Harper has moved to Willowbrook, a small town in rural north Texas, to get away from everything, especially the paparazzi. She is the daughter of the deceased lead guitarist for the group RavensBlood. Mel wants a normal life and she has always kept her identity hidden from everyone. Her father died when she was a young girl, but she is still running away from the notoriety of being his daughter. Mel doesn’t want anything to do with the limelight and even though she is attracted to Hank, she doesn’t want to get involved.
Hank is the drummer for the group BlackWing, he loves touring with the band and also small town life. Willowbrook is Hank’s sanctuary and grounds him because he lives a crazy life. Hank is a nice, country boy, who happens to be in a famous rock band. Hank stole my heart because he is humble, patient, caring and always honest with Mel. Hank knows Mel is the one for him as soon as he meets her, but she has to work through issues from her past.
Roz Lee has written a touching romance that drew me in from the first page. Even though the main characters are rich and famous, they are two unpretentious people and easy to connect with. I enjoyed reading about the process of BlackWing recording their record album. There were some interesting secondary characters including the guys in Hank’s band and the people living in the town of Willlowbrook. Can Mel learn to trust Hank and forget her past?
I'll admit I was a tad 'scared' when I landed my review copy and saw the size of this book. 300(or around) pages, at around 94K in word count. And there was supposed to be a single central love story over that whole length! Could Ms. Maroney pull it off, and keep me interested?
Turns out...she CAN!
It's really hard, not to mention near-impossible, to find an author whose prose languishes on the side of Deep POV, the kind that pulls you in and has you turning the pages without your realizing it. Dolores Maroney's writing has this elusive quality, and my God, was this refreshing and welcome! In the blink of an eye, you 'become' Mel or Hank, because they - and their feelings, emotions, mindset, even physical selves - are expressed in such vivid and concise detail in those words.
Because of this, you need not worry that this is a loooong book. You do not notice the time passing, and Ms Maroney has enough turmoil, drama, and twists, to keep you entertained.
The characterization of Mel and Hank - the way his future was woven with her past - was really the stuff of good, memorable stories, the kind only romance can deliver.
Trust me, this book delivers! If you're on the lookout for a book with a leisurely pace and a love story that will tug at your heartstrings (pun intended!), then Lost Melody is for you. Take a chance on it!

What a breath of fresh air. I was wanting a none PRN read and something light. What I got was a story they tugged at your heart strings. Dolores W. Mahoney is an author I will be reading more from.
I bought the book because the author was donating proceeds to the #savesweetbriar effort. Once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. It's a very sweet romance.
