Madison Summers is an eighteen-year-old high school graduate who, due to her father’s recent departure, is charged with the task of taking care of her mother and little brother, Andy. However, working double shifts at the Wayside Restaurant can barely pay the bills, and having a manipulative boyfriend, Damian, leaves her little time for her to spend with her family. When she meets Andy’s friend, Orion, at work one day, she can’t help but immediately picture this new friend as her knight in shining armor. She soon falls in love with him behind the back of her controlling and abusive boyfriend. Afraid to leave him for another man, Madison is faced with a very important choice that could change her life forever. Can she turn her secret life with Orion into her new life? Will she be able to meet the consequences of betraying Damian? When Madison’s past collides with her present, everything is doomed to fall to pieces. However, with the help of her brother, can she make it out with everything she’s ever wanted…or will she be left with nothing?
I really wanted to like this book but just ended up thinking Madi was a slut. She jumped from one bed to the other. The mom didn't care that she had her boyfriend staying over night. And the latest conquest too. She wanted to protect her brother, but she let him know that they were messing around.
I had no idea that this book would be so amoral. I just didn't like the book. I liked the idea of the book, just not the execution of it.

God, this was awful! The most annoying, useless female character I've read in ages. Madison stays with an abusive boyfriend because he pays the bills and her family know this, but hey, you've gotta pay the bills. Then she meets Orion who is years older than her little brother but hangs around with him - weird crap right there too - and falls for him in 2.5 minutes. When he suggests he moves in after knowing her for maybe 5 days to pay the bills her eyes light up dollar signs and she can now swap boyfriends AND keep the bills paid. Independent woman here! Her creepy boyfriend/ bill payer calls her 'my dear' like he's a 70 year old moustache twirling villain and is a total caricature. He adds unintended humour because he's pathetic. They say in life that you get what you pay for, and evidently this rule applies to Amazon also. This book was free. Enough said.
I really wanted to love this book more than I did. The plot was a great one, but it just wasn't written well enough for me to give it more than 1 star and I don't want to be harsh, but I do want to be honest.
The writing was too simplistic for the story to work for me - it was if it was written by a high student who was killing some time in study hall by writing a love story.
I will not be reading the rest of the books in this series!
I'd actually give this 2.5 stars. It is a really good story, but the book read like a list of events - short and choppy sentences. I did not get to know the characters well nor really feel their relationship.
In If I Never Knew You Maddison Summers is not the typical eighteen-year-old high school graduate; she takes her family responsibilities seriously and works at a local dinner often pulling two shifts per day to help her single mom support her, her sixteen-year-old younger brother, Andy and try to keep the family home. She has one big problem in life and that is a controlling boyfriend that demands her time and attention, often leaving bruises when he doesn't get what he wants from Madison.
Andy's new friend is an older guy in a band and when Maddison meets Orion, she likes him, which creates a problem with Damian. Maddison is a combination of immature teenager and mature young woman making her interesting, plus she is competitive, loves to dance and is lots of fun. The book has an element of violence and in the end a happy ending too.
This book was...well everything was so simple and easy. Nothing seemed to ever be that big of a deal, even though there were some pretty horrible things happening. And the way it was written made me not really care that much. It just...so she has an abusive boyfriend. Alright, so sure it would be hard to leave him. But it is like she doesn't really want to at any time and I just really didn't like this book as it was just so easy for get everything sorted and everything just happened suddenly, which confused me.
I really enjoyed this book! There was nothing that i can think of that really irritated me, or that i didn't really like. This book was short (127 pages) so it took me just an afternoon to read. it was a very cute book and you got a bit giddy at times.
I really enjoyed the characters and all their personalities. My favourite was maybe Orion or Andy. Andy being Madison s 16 year old brother, who sounded like the best brother ever! he was so protective and caring for her even though he was younger by 2 years. I loved Orion because he was just amazing. He wasn't rude or controlling like Madison s boyfriend Damien. he was amazing and cared about Madison and her family so much.
I am excited to read the next book, it was a fast cute read that i really enjoyed.
Madison is 18 and works in a diner to help her family pay the bills. Her mom is alone and not strong enough to work more than part time. Andy is in high school. Madison is dating Damian. He sleeps over or has Madison stay at his place and he helps pay some of the bills. Andy hates Damian. Andy makes friends with an older boy - Orion - who is also a song writer and part of a local band. He is frequently over playing video games with Andy. Damian goes on a trip and Madison feels safe to let Orion drive her to work and pick her up once in a while. She and Orion get romantic and have sex while Damian is away. Madison is pregnant. How does each of the boy friends take the news? Whose baby is it?
The emotions were good but not at first... some how there is a thing lacking in the story.. there was no pressing on the characters' personalities.. I felt the entire time that there was an empty space.. it felt void... anyway.. Orion was soo cute. . Really really cute.. and some how I liked maddison...
Cute story.. warning: s#xual content... But not much like 1 paragraph. . Easily skipped..
My first Aubrey Bailey ebook, a very light easy to read story. Has a lot of potential to have been deeper and longer if Aubrey had let us see the relationship with Damian more. We know Damian is being abusive, but with hardly any scenes in the book where we see what is happening in their relationship we only see the reactions of Madison and the uncomfortable tension that radiates.
Ah I'm not sure about this one I am waffling on the rating. It was pretty short, but there were parts I loved & some I didn't. Plan on reading the next book. Madison was frustrating at times. I loved Orion & Madison's brother Andy!
I really liked this book yea it was short but very sweet I like this book because it kinda lets you know how hard it is for women in a abusive relationship to ask for help when they fear for what that person might do to them or they're family good book I can definitely relate!!
The plot is a good idea. But the writing didnt have me feeling anything. I bought the box set for free. Right now i cant read the next one. The editing was really bad too. I can usually over look that but it was really bad.
well... The book was not what I expected. I read another book by Aubrey Bailey before and didn't like it. so this was her second chance... I think her writing style is not for me.
The writing on this could really use some tightening up. The characters were likeable enough, but other parts of the story were bothersome. Full review to come.
