Earth is all but dead. With meteors exploding in their midst, the shuttle Grace boards takes flight in a last ditch effort to save human lives. With little food, water and eight stowaways the situation is volatile while they race to the new planet, Ulsy. A wormhole and a crash are their undoing. While fleeing into the strange surroundings on an even stranger planet two of Grace’s shuttle pilots are killed by a massive ebony creature with fangs as white as ivory.

Rask is a full blooded Castian warrior who thinks his planet has been stormed. When he comes across the little being that cowers from him he is intrigued. After four hundred years and virtual immortality Rask thought he had seen everything. When the being before him declares herself to be a human female he is beyond amazed. Females have been extinct as long as he can remember. But there is no denying her sweet scent. One inhaled breath is all it takes to drop his shield and reveal the muscular tanned male beneath.

Rask had thought his armor impenetrable. One touch from a slender hand and he realizes he is powerless against the tiny human he must have.

Born and raised in Ontario, C. L. Scholey developed her passion for writing through her love of reading books as a child. Her first book was contracted in Oct 2009 the very same month her first grand son was born. C. L. Scholey still lives in Ontario, in a rural community with her husband and daughter.

From the author:
Hello, I'm Connie! Now that we've met how about I tell you a little about me? I love to write, it's like having a super power.

I was born and raised in Ontario...yes I'm Canadian, no I don't live in an igloo, no I've never pet a polar bear, but I have run into a few black bears, seen wolves, moose, coyotes and I think there's a hundred pound squirrel in my attic.

I spend as much time as I can get away with looking for rocks in Bancroft. When I'm not in Bancroft I live in a small town, so people know me when they see me. Some ask me what I'm working on--some even ask me in a regular voice not a whisper.

I get bored easily, it's why one day I'll be working on assassins, the next Sci-fi, then Vikings, then vampires, then planning world domination--wait, what?

Moving on. I love animals and we have a dog, 120p mastiff. He's great with the kids and careful around them, but he'd run me over for a piece of bologna. Otherwise he loves us.

Grace boards a shuttle designed as one of the last effords to save humans. Earth is almost destroyed and the few chosen survivors will be transported to the newly discovered planet Ulsy. Grace is one of the lucky hosen ones maybe because she is so goodlooking and the captain has devious plans for her.

Unfortunately or maybe fortunately for her, the shuttle crashes on a different strange planet and the pilot is killed by a massive monster with huge fangs. Grace will soon realise that this monster is actually Rask, a goodlooking male who is also a Castian warrior, about 400 years old and a virgin.

Grace will also realise that there are more Castian warriors who are also about 400 years old and virgins since all females Castian have died about 400 years ago.

Well, this was a typical alien-Males-without-Females-are-looking-for-earth-brides-to-mate book. It was entertaining. The mating ritual was interesting but I have seen it before: fangs, biting, venom, relaxing drug, marking, mine mine etc etc.
Still I think I will read the next book.

This is surprisingly good! I think I need to amend my profile to state that I clearly love the dollar store for strange stuff, wacky stuff, cheesy stuff, and futuristic romance.

Generally speaking it seems to me that if you read "erotica" you will have to contend with far less character development than straight up "romance". I've seen people lambaste this book because it has less character development than wished for and I'd agree. But I still managed to enjoy it.

The Good:
- Rask and his fellow Castians are completely naive about sex and this is hilarious and funny to me. Scholey did manage to write a harrowing yet hilarious first meeting between Rask and Grace that I found enjoyable.
- The reason for fleeing Earth while questionable (in terms of why the apocalypse is actually happening) was well written and I think realistic. Certainly dangerous, gritty, depressing.
-Rask is SWEET. Oh yes, he's just..sweet. While you are not going to get epic development of the characters here, you *will* get a nice sense of Rask and his sweetness and caring.

My argument: People have griped that the women are just one dimensional, well ok, perhaps. Perhaps! But when I think about it? I'd say if I left Earth the way Grace does- would I want an absolutely astonishingly handsome faithful hunk whose only care is to protect me and care for who CANNOT LIE? I'll take it. Yes! Sign me up. Whatever, this is the fantasy aspect to satisfy us female readers. This cover is ultra cheese ( I do not like the cover but I won't subtract for it!) the story is ultra cheese. I like cheese sometimes! Ok, I like cheese a lot, this isn't Parmesan Reggiano - it's ooey gooey freaking smoked Cheddar melted on your homemade mac & cheese. Rask is going to protect you, he's going to learn how to ..you know..be a man from YOU, er Grace. Plus he'll give you an extra 900+ years on your lifespan. What's not to like? Plus he's fertile unlike a vampire. Yeah. He has fangs but they are just scary and fun fangs.

The Bad:
So human men are bad okay? I do not know why this has to be. We do see some spark of decency in at least ONE human male in this story, but it seems to be a token good human man moment. I really hate contrasting fake sexy alien men with huge but gentle walking boners with evil human men. I know it's totally stupid of me but it lessens my enjoyment of the story. It's a common thing for a writer to make someone else the villain so the heroine leans toward the intended hero, but most of the time this is just ultra lazy plotting IMO.

Also this book has some info dumps disguised as conversations lol. Well they would be honest and necessary questions for Grace, indeed, but those put off by info dumps will roll their eyes. I didn't find it heavy duty but it does slow the story down and isn't entirely graceful.

I agree with others, the last half of the book seems more rushed and less considered by the author and a rush to the HEA or HFN.

Read this if you like your HFN, HEA's, alien sex, aliens who happen to look like humans magnified and with all the best traits of your human female preferences.

All in all, I'm going to get the next book and read it tonight- so yeah I really liked this. These Castians are adorable and if I have to leave Earth because of the apocalypse I'd gladly accept one.

🌟Brief Summary:
OMG!!!!! I am so glad I found this gem of a novella…. Thank you Rose.
And damn there is so much packed into this 90 pg book it almost felt twice the length. So much detail and LMAO moments.

Grace is escaping the destroyed planet earth on one of the last shuttles when it crashes on a different planet then the one the other humans had gone to.
There she meets Rask a warrior who’s race is in the middle of a war.

‼️ Opinion‼️:
GAH !!!!! I LOVED THIS 💗💕💗💕💗💕
Wow world building, relationship, sexy times and even a few fight scenes all this is 90 pg read!

-Woman in Rask race were all killed by their enemy 400 yrs ago so they barley know what a female is much less what to do with her. Instincts kick in but much has to be taught by the woman herself……..

Grace looked down at his growing erection. Rask looked too, and his eyes widened in shocked surprise. “Oh no.” “What’s wrong?” she asked. If she didn’t know better, she would swear he was scared. “My maleness!” he yelled. “What the hell is wrong with my cock?”
“It’s all right, you have a hard-on.” “My cock is growing a new shield?” “Hmm, that’s one way of looking at it.” Rask stripped his pants off. He starred openmouthed at his dick. “That is an impressive shield.” Grace had to agree.
😂😅🫣🤭

-This was such a surprisingly delightful, enjoyable and hilarious read. I really felt the connection between Grace and Rask even though it was very insta love ❤️

-The storyline leads into a much bigger plot that I assume carries into the other books in this series. I don’t want to give to much away….you must read this for yourself.

”We can’t have our males in MUST every month. We would go crazy from the hormones. Can you imagine an entire week of being moody, horny and nutty, every month?” “Gee, no,” Grace said dryly.😂😂

📖 Pages: 91 pgs

🦹🏻‍♂️ Hero:

Earth was dying and only a select few could be transported to a new world colony.
An excellent premise, but super cheesy execution. It's insta-love to the extreme. After only one day, she falls in love.
She was happy their shuttle crashed. It was hard to believe that after such a short time she was in love with him.
Eye rollingly ridiculous, but had fun reading it.

Post-apocalyptic alien sci-fi. girl flees a dying earth- Girl stranded on another planet- Girl meets hunky scary alien dude ( *****warning slight spoiler ahead*****) girl has sex with virgin o.O hot alien dude (yep its a world full of hot alien male virgins! )- bad aliens attack- good aliens save the day. A bit formula but it was entertaining. A few funny parts where the heroine was "teaching" the hero what sex was all about. There is some attempt at world and alien society building. Die hard scifi fans will find it bit skimpy thoughThere's even a sequel. If you're looking for the next great scifi erotica, this probably isn't your book. However, if your looking for a fairly quick scifi sexy alien romp you might give it try. ( I did get it on sale)
I'm thinking about buying the sequel- come on! a planet full of hot alien virgins with six packs
(not of Budweiser), buns of steel and all of them with out of this world proportions ~snort~ and just waiting for earth women to tell them how they want it?

She has sex with the dude the first day he captures her and by the end of the day she proclaims her love for him. He is an alien and she has crashed on a strange planet and she sleeps with him because he he was a virgin and needed to be shown how to have sex, oh, and to "survive" she has to do this. What a load of junk!!! It started out very promising with strong writing but soon went downhill as if the writer was in a hurry to finish. Would not loan this book-sorry. I did not care for it. This was a jumbled mess. So many intriguing concepts all rolled into 100pp. I realize that this is the start of a long series, but it's not necessary to plant all the seeds in the first novella. The sex was good but not great. So much more could have been done with that first encounter. And all the secondary characters parading past, waving so you'll remember them in book 4 or 7.

The series probably gets better.

I love C.L. Scholey's Unearthly World books and I realised that I should of read this series first. Earth is in the beginning stages of self-destruction and some humans are lucky enough to escape in shuttles to a new home.

When their ship gets hurled through a worm-hole, they crash on some planet and get found by the Castians. Rask is so adorable and loving. I found it hilarious when he didn't know that Grace was a female.

We gets lots of details on the Castian "shields" and about their war with the Tornians.

The Earth is almost destroyed. Everything is dead or almost dead. This is one scenario that so many movies and authors exploit. It is a sad reality that only some humans get to escape on a better planet. I know there are good men among our male population but to be honest they are not really running the show so the story makes sense to me.
Grace is one of the lucky women who get to leave Earth just to realize that they are headed for slavery when the ship crashes - on the Castian planet.

Rask is a Castians warrior who is coming from a declining civilization. All their women died when an enemy race polluted their water. The advantage is they get to live a lot of years (thousands) but no women around. Rask is SWEET, sooo sweet, caring, devoted, protective. Not a deep character but lovable and fun.

CL Scholey wrote a very funny first meeting between Rask and Grace that I found enjoyable and had me laughing for a long time.
Rask is completely naive about how a woman looks and what sex is so the sex/ bonding scene did it for me. Unintentionally they mates and it took them a wile to know what they did. As I said funny.....
Their meeting and mating trigger a rescue mission to Earth (obviously looking for more women) and more alien hunk stories.
Interesting planet, civilizations and story. I am looking forward to more stories.

Wow, whan an interesting plot. It's been a while, since I last read such refreshing sci-fi romantic adventure. I really liked the idea, details and build up of the new world.

After Grace and her shuttle crew crashed on this weird new planet, they get hunted down by this giant ebony monster with fangs. This creature is in reality Rask, a full blooded Castian warrior who thinks his planet is under attack and his shield gives him the appearance of this horrible creature.
Rask has never before seen a human, much less a female (since in his race all females died when he was little), so it's quite amusing to see how he interracts with Grace and how she teaches him female anatomy. Also, I love the author's twist to make all males unknown of how to have sex with females and thus that no female could be raped. They could only have sex, if the female told her male how to do that.

I refreshing read for sure. I'm definitely going to read the rest of this series.

First off...

Eww... the insta love was way too much for me.

Also, Shield was way too short. The heroine escapes a desolate dying Earth and crashes on an alien planet and within a few hours has been taken by the hero, had sex, mated, and fallen in love. The next day a ship attacks full of bad guys, the next day she meets her father in law, and the next day she's pregnant, then, boom it's over.

The plot was just terrible and way too fast paced not to mention cheesy as hell.

The best thing about this book was the originality when it came to the alien species. I enjoyed hearing about their differences from humans, their mating rituals, and learning about their shields and such.

Besides that I didn't care much for anything else. Honestly I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, I've read much better alien romances out there. I'm bummed this was a miss for me.

Fun, easy read, very typical alien H/human h read. I liked all the Hs alien traits and how they worked with the human h. It’s a little info dumpy at times but it’s so short that it wasn’t enough to make it boring.

Overall: 3.5

A highly interesting sci fi romance.

This story is written like a draft. Too much going on for too short a book. All the answers were handed out. Little to no sense of discovery.

Having said that, it was a very interesting twist on alien mates. The story definitely had my attention. I look forward to the other book in the series.

3.5 stars, I really liked this one, but I didn't love it like mad (like I do the second one in this series!!). It reads like the first of many series, good introduction, lovely characters, but there wasn't quite enough heat/tension for me in this first one, and the tone at the beginning was so SO sad. I know it was necessary, but it made the book a lot gloomier than what I was looking for, but I'm sure that's just me. I love the after-apocalypse stuff, it's hard reading what comes just before.

I definitely enjoyed it though and I'm happily blazing ahead with this series - ordering #4 for my kindle now :D

Not sure I particularly liked Caspians having the ability to calm their females with a touch. Sounds kind of like forcing them to be calm even if they don't want to. Some kind of violation. So, not a fan then but I did like the overall "plot". Of course I still can't, in good conscience, give a higher rating because this is still a pretty simplistic novel with some weird concepts of romance and happily ever after. Good for mindless fun though.

I gotta admit that the cover of the book kinda made me thought this was gonna be some ridiculous plot.

But hell nawh! The story is a mix between post apocalyptic world with aliens involved in. The beginning really captivated me, and I couldn't stop reading 'till I finished the book.

Not what I expected, but even better.

I did quite enjoy this book. A lot of thought has gone into building the world though some of the customs and traditions are a little confusing to understand. Rask's ignorance of sex was more silly than funny but other than that it was a good read.

Rask ❤ Grace

This is First In Series, book #1 of #9 in the New World Series. It’s a great start for a new interesting take on Sci-Fi Romance.

Set in a post-apocalyptic future. Earth has become, for the most part, uninhabitable. Some people were able to escape to various fates in the universe. Once humans, females in particular, come into contact with the Castian Warriors, the fate of humanity takes on a whole new road-map. Castians are a human like species that have a hard outer armor that auto deploys to protect them. It is practically unbreakable and makes them look like a moving rock monster with fangs and claws. They also have been without females for over 400 years with most never have seen a female anything since age of 4, and that memory is usually of their mothers. The hows and whys of that you will have to discover on your own, but it was not caused by a natural thing.

Now that females have been discovered, it becomes a mad dash to save any others that might still be on earth, which there are. Good for them too because they would of eventually starved at best with all that is left on the planet. This series follows their plight to save not only earthlings but their species as well. Each story focuses on the main two characters, but often with a bonus. There is usually a secondary couple which is that of the alien’s warrior mate. These are usually chosen around age 12, and are their fighting buddy that always watches the other’s back. Since they are always together, it makes since that a mate would be selected at the same time, so the other couple’s fate is usually playing out at the same time, but just not as in much detail.

Shield is mainly the story of Rask and Grace, with a side story of Tosk and Stacie. It was quite humorous to listen to these huge men that could take down an entire army distress over mating and female emotions. Like I said, its a refreshing take of the space saga. For once, all the men are the virgins. It’s about time! Luckily, there is a somewhat of a hive/archive mind they can access memories from that helps them.

C.L. Scholey is a new to me author, but I am glad I cam across these stories. I am intrigued and want more. This story is performed by Matthew Lloyd Davies who I felt had a good balance of male to female voices. I did feel that the audio production speed was benefited with a boost to the playback speed.

I listened to this through Audible Escape.

So I've read almost 4 books in this series and I want so bad to love it. The first book Shield is full of world building and that continues throughout the next few books. I started reading this short alien need females because ours died, and that's like my bread and butter of alien books. The first half is excellent I feel and connect with Grace and the book gives major apocalypse vibes and I believed it! The aliens are the problem for me. Rant incoming!

For this long rant I give it a 3 because if you want to turn your brain off and not take something too serious for 100 pages it's a decent read. It's a ice planet barbarians without the blue skin and more technology kind of book, but all the male ego.
