A lovely, pithy book that seeks to ground the great Maimonides in his time and context, detailing why he was such a great thinker even in his own time. You don't have to know Maimonides' work firsthand to appreciate this overview and light-touch but insightful analysis.

I started with a plain text translation online and the got this book through interlibrary load. The additional background, commentary, and historical perspective helped. I am still dipping into it.
