Great read, I wish I could just keep on reading but sadly the book was over. It was written beautifully and kept my interest till the end. I love Chance and Ana. I will be waiting patiently for the next installment. Well not real patiently because like Chance patience isn't really my gig!

The story is well-written, original and captivating. I am looking forward to the release of the third book, although I understand it may take some time. Best wishes to Natasha and her family!

Beautifully written, refreshingly original!
In Book 2 of the Shapeshifter Chronicles, author Natasha Brown continues the warm, courageous love story of Ana and Chance, as well adds to the incredibly interesting shapeshifting lore she has created. At the end of Fledgling, I was so excited to see where the author would take her unique world building, and I was not disappointed. I was totally enthralled by the exciting action, new characters, and cultural nuances in Prodigy. It was especially refreshing to see Mayan culture woven into the plot, instead of the usual Greco-Roman mythology so often found in fantasy over the last few years.
In the first book of the series, Ana and Chance's shared secrets serve to make their relationship stronger and it's just in time. In fast paced Prodigy, they must face an unknown evil in the Mexican rainforest at the same time as they grapple with new powers. Once again, Natasha Brown's exquisite use of detail and description was ever present. I could feel the mist of the rainforest. I heard the sounds of the surrounding wilderness in all its beauty and peril. I felt the characters' exhilaration, confusion, fear, and hope as the action of the story careened forward. All of this was expertly wrapped up in delicious suspense with a great surprise ending.
Prodigy is a well-crafted sequel in the SC series that will thrill teens and adults alike. You can count me in for Book 3!

This book is a follow up book to Fledgling: The Shapeshifter Chronicles which I read and reviewed in February 2012.
Like the first book, this was a very solid story. The flow of the writing was smooth and concise, the plot line engaging and descriptive. The characters that I had really enjoyed in the first book were brought to life even more within this sequel.
The speed of the storyline was quicker than the first one and that was good for me. I read very quickly and I like my books to move just as fast. While this book is once again directed to young adult audiences, I felt it had enough bite to it to entertain the older crowd too.
The story deals with some real life issues about adjusting in real life and the paranormal world, and while we all want happy thoughts in books, seeing real life problems just makes it all the more believable in my eyes. I am always thrilled when a book doesn't end the way I thought it would and this one for sure did.
I very much enjoyed the next step into the saga and found this storyline even more pronounced then the first. Ms. Brown did a great job of taking you on an adventure without revealing all the final details until the time was right.
Well done, and I will continue to follow the Chronicles.

Pageturning action and adventure. Chance and Ana go in search of a legendary shapeshifter in Mexico. Along the way they encounter tiny animals that pay a little too much attention to their movements. They meet friendly villagers and learn a lot of skills from the mentor, but Chance's evil cousin stalks them and causes mayhem in the final showdown.
Ana surprises herself with a new skill, and even though disaster strikes, she has hope that in the next book she can fix things up.
I really enjoyed this book. The author's voice is authentic and I could tell that she spent a lot of time outdoors observing animals and plant life in the forest. Her descriptions were realistic and while reading the book, I would get creepy feelings looking out the window at the squirrels or birds in my backyard, or wondering about a cat that slunk across my path. The food descriptions in Mexico had my mouth watering and the characters Ana and Chance met were endearing. I enjoyed learning about Mayan legends, and I'm looking forward to Ana's new adventure in the third book.

June 6, 2013Ok here's the deal- this is a book with a mature handling of the 'what's next?' Stage of a relationship. Like oh the wicked witch is dead and I love you and we graduated from high school- now what? It is handled so well. Silly mistakes new couples make with each other, how to handle conflict without going Jerry springer, little things like budgeting and laundry. This is important stuff. How you live with your love is as important as the love itself. I think a lot of YA stuff just jumps from tragedy to drama to melodrama without having any real time spent with the characters just living. I really appreciate that in this couple. Only complaint was the use of 'kiss on the lips' like 4 times in two pages towards the beginning. Probably just an editing oversight and really if that is all that bugs me, the book was pretty darn good. there was some beautiful oral history scenes with Mayan mythology and creation story.

Ana and Chance are in search of answers in book, searching for a new mentor for Chance. Their search takes them to Mexico, to the Yucatan. And what they find there is answers but also more trouble.
As Chance learns more about his abilities, Ana learns how to protect herself. She also discovers something she never expected.
The second book gives us answers, but it also leaves us with more questions and wanting more! I look forward to the next book in series, and I'm anxious to see how things pan out for Chance and Ana now that Mrs. Brown has adding in a shocking twist!

The ending if this book was incredible - I did not see that coming at all!!
The characters were also really well developed and I was easy to get a sense of what they were feeling. If anything I would have liked to have found out a little more about Balam but that's just a personal feeling.
I loved Brown's description of the jungle and forest areas which really made you feel you were there.
Really do give this a go you wont be disappointed, but make sure you read the first one first!!

set in a beautiful location Ana and Chance learn more about their powers from his family who still live in the area of the ancient mayan civilization. At first it seems they have nothing to overcome. The couple is perfect, They are treated like guests. They might as well be on vacation. The story is at times beautifully written and towards the end things take a turn for the worse, a turn that should have been obvious to me, It was one that is encouraging me to read the next.

Incredible!
What a phenomenal continuation. I can honestly say it’s even better than book one. I’m ridiculously hopeful and completely optimistic about book three, now! Sadness and crazy excitement. Massive plot twists. New characters and locations. Just an all around fantastic read. On to book three. 🙏🏻🤞🏻

A very good sequel to its previous book, its based in Mexico but not focused on typical mexican tropes, like dia de la muertos or chichen itza. No its focussed on Mayan beliefs and still has the charm of the last book. A very pleasent read that I loved, some parts were a bit slow but it was so worth it. I give this a 9/10

Chance and Ana leave home and head to Mexico to find his ancestors. Ana is healed now and learning more about Chance and his shape shifting. They find his grandfather on his mother's side and he too is a shape shifter. He has been around a long time. He senses something in Ana and helps her find her power which is for healing. Chance has been lying to her though and they spend some time sorting that out. When they do things are better until the villain who isn't really dead shows up again and people die and Chance is infected. Ana is left alone in the jungle, but then finds she has been being followed by another shifter who is ready to train her in her newly acquired skills. On to the next book.

The second book in The Shapeshifter Cronicles takes us on the continued journey of Ana and Chance as they go in search of a new mentor to help with Chance's failing powers. This journey is about discovering ones own abilities and strengths, learning to trust your instincts, and the depth of love constantly shimmering between Ana and Chance. An excellent follow up from the first book, I look forward to reading book three of The Shapeshifter Cronicles. A job well done, Ms. Brown!

When I first read "Fledgling," I was hooked on the story of Ana and Chase. In this wonderful second story of the Shapeshifter Chronicles, Brown pulled me further in to the lives of these two wonderful characters. I was very happy to see her continue not only Chance's story, but Ana's as well. As the characters continued to grow in this story, I was delightfully surprised to see where Brown was going with it. I am definitely hooked, and can not wait for book 3.

Breathtaking!
I love this series. There were times I was so into the story, I would actually forget to breathe! Love the way I feel like I'm in her character's head, experiencing the story myself. I just finished this book, and I can't wait for #3!

Just keeps getting better

Unexpected ending
Ana has had a rough life, things start looking up with Chance and things are going well. Now things are tough again, what will happen....can't wait to see in the next book.
