Oh No! ages 3+, 15 leaves and 13 acetate sheets, is a delightful book about things that can go wrong, sometimes practical and sometimes just funny but guaranteed to make the children giggle!
13 different spreads, 13 clear transparent pages. Can you guess what happens next? Flip the acetate page over to find out.
Patrick George's acetate books are works of art that children love—and for autistic kids, who often get more out of a multi-sensory experience, they are a kind of nirvana. His books feature transparencies that reveal surprises as you flip the pages. The graphic art is bold, colorful, and appealing, and the visual trickery is endlessly joyful and fun to share with others.
I was lucky enough to interview Patrick for my blog, Line Up the Books, which explores picture books from the perspective of a parent of twins with autism. That interview includes a detailed discussion of "Oh No!"
Interesting format, an acetate page between each spread which changes what happens. Kids would get a kick out of shouting "Oh No!" as you turn the acetate page each time. Despite the fact that I'm not a huge fan of using wordless picture books in story time (you just never know how the kids will respond and without responsive kids, wordless books just fall flat), I can see my preschoolers loving this one. I might plan on using it but bring a back up just in case I get a super quiet group.
Wordless, brilliant illustrations with transparent switch ups but I think it would be better with words. It begs for an Oh No! on each page even though it is implied.
