~SO MUCH MORE THAN A ROMANCE FANTASY~

If you enjoyed Hunger Games, Lord of the Rings, and The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, you will LOVE this book. There is no swearing or sex in this series. Due to adult theme, it is Not intended for young YA readers. Genre is NEW ADULT/FANTASY/ROMANCE FANTASY

Author M.E. Lorde creates a gripping story set in the earth’s future, where the youth of the world have the privilege and burden of saving humanity from extinction.
Years before an apocalyptic event, a new means of travel is discovered. The modern technology comes just in the nick of time. Though none can return to a past-time in order to fix what men have destroyed, some candidates can now move forward to begin anew.
Highly intelligent, Tolomay Ramey was trained since birth to do one thing… to lead others into the future of the ‘clean earth’ where both nature and mankind are given a fresh start. Leaving the pod community behind, she arrives as the only living ‘Original’ from the first team of candidates. The clean world, abundant with plant and animal life, is covered in green for the first time in hundreds of years.
Unfortunately for this young girl and despite the beauty of the replenished earth, nothing she experiences from the moment she arrives is as expected. Alone for three years, until others finally join her, she learns to survive off the land, but that will not be what she finds most challenging. What will happen when a strong-headed young man arrives with the mindset that he should have been the first in this paradise? Can independent Tolomay and fiercely confident Kenter meet in the middle? Can the clean world become what it was intended to be for the new community, or will all thoughts of peace be left a thousand years in the past?(

Author Bio- Author M.E. Lorde grew up in the rural community of Victor, NY, surrounded by farms, orchards, and the Finger Lakes, with miles of grape vineyards in neighboring towns.
M.E. Lorde wanted to be a writer from an early age. She wrote her first book at the age of ten – a story about a bird, called ‘Babbly’.
M.E.  has raised four children, primarily as a single parent.  Writing was put on the back burner while she worked two unrelated jobs for many years.
Her first book series 'Tolomay's World' was conceived while she was standing on her front porch.  Nearly the entire seven novel series came to her in its entirety as she pondered the possibilities of those characters. The story is a dystopian/romance/fantasy involving our Earth, its slow destruction, and how humanity can begin anew.  There are small elements of sci-fi sprinkled in the story... after all it does take place in our future.  However, Tolomay's World is still an earthy fantasy collection, rather than a sci-fi series.  It's language is a bit quirky and flows delightfully as the plot carries its readers into a new world.
The first book of the seven novel series, 'Tolomay's World and The Pool of Light'  was published in 2012.  It's main character, Tolomay, is a pure soul, ever intent on protection and peace for all.  She soon discovers that's easier said than done.
The second novel, 'Tolomay's World and The Mountain of Tegi', was published in 2013.  To date, four of the seven book series have been published ('Tolomay's World and the Splitting of the Trunk' 2014, Tolomay's World 'The Wall' 2016), with the fifth to be released in late 2017.
M.E. also wrote, illustrated, and published a children's book against bullying in 2008.
In March of 2017, M.E. Lorde published her first Contemporary Romance 'Devin's Chance'.
It's her hope that her writing touches her reader's hearts, that she can affect the greater good of humanity through her writing.

I read "Tolomay's World" in almost one sitting. This book is not a short one, but I just couldn't put it down. Immersed in the old world of Tolomay's people, while exploring with her the new one she had been sent to prepare, I kept reading, unwilling to pause.

The story of the young girl destined to safe her people is very touching. Her determination, her devotion, her naive sincerity are truly inspiring, making the reader root for her, worry about her, join her in her small joys. That is, until the twins enter the scene. Then it all turns wonderfully complicated.

This story is fast-paced and full of action, but its descriptions are as wonderful. One can just feel this new world, the smell and the taste of the clean air, the unfamiliar feeling of the grass under one's bare feet. Alongside with the three young people, the spearheads of their dying culture, you get to discover the joys and the dangers of the new world, and its hidden secrets.

This read left me smiling, wishing for more. I sincerely hope its sequel will be out soon.

I thought this was a delightfully original story. It is beautifully written in an exceptionally lyrical manner that is easy to read and flows seamlessly. In the future, the Earth has been stripped of its natural resources and horribly contaminated by pollutants. Humanity is dying out. A brilliant and eccentric scientist discovers a method of time travel that may be mankind’s only hope. A very select few are chosen to travel a thousand years into the future to a clean, pristine, revitalized Earth. Tolomay arrives safely, but others who came with her are not as fortunate. Later, another small group arrives, and the community is born.

Tolomay is a dedicated, naïve girl with a remarkable spirit. She is immediately likable. She is stubborn, smart and innovative. She becomes a stalwart protector of her new environment. The new world is even better than anticipated, but also holds many unforeseen dangers. The way in which Tolomay and the later arrivals handle the challenges of their new home makes this an engrossing tale. I was disappointed that, like so many new books, this one ended with a major cliff-hanger, but that seems to be a trend these days, and railing against the practice seems to accomplish little. So enjoy this book but be prepared to grab up the next installment which, hopefully, will be available soon.

This book was given to me without charge in return for my honest review.

As a reviewer as well as an author, I was lucky enough to be given this book to read - and I loved it.

It is a cautionary tale of sorts (I don't give spoilers), a fantasy mixed with romance and an amazing insight into a 'clean world', where the talent and imagination of the author abounds.

The story is filled with wonderful descriptions and 'fitting' language that intertwines English with a twist...a mix of future and past and a dash of how communication and beliefs could evolve.

The characters are believable, although Kenter may have to 'grow up', but as the story continues, we do see his possibilities. Tolomay is fantastic, and I look forward to finding out how she continues on her 'journey'. Kenter's sister, too, has great potential. The males do seem to be far weaker than the females - so far :)

A fabulous read, although my 'problem' is having to wait for the next installment.

Highly recommended.

I won this book in a goodreads giveaway.

So my reactions ranged from this:

to this:

Jeez, these kids have problems.

But anyway, time to move on to the actual review to explain why I felt this way towards this book!

The storyline is actually surprisingly unique. Sure, there are books that talk about the destruction of the world and what not but I don't think I've read one where the characters end up going to the future in order to get away from it. Also, I have to say the fact that nothing has evolved in the 1000 years annoys me slightly. Apparently cows and bears look the exact same as 1000 years ago, baring the fact that there is solar radiation that would have killed them off.

Anyway, onto the characters.

So, there are 3 main characters for this book.

First off, we have Tolomay, the incredibly smart, girl that has been there for three years.
I keep getting distracted by the fact that Kenter and Lethia call her young despite her being 16 and I think they are 18-19... I do not remember if that was stated anywhere...

Well anyway, Tolomay is the kind of girl I like. She takes no nonsense from anybody. She knows she is the one that knows best(having been stuck on survival mode for 3 years). And then her heart went doki doki.

For people that don't understand the term...she starts falling in love with Kenter. Which is where my frustrations start coming in a bit.

Because my frustrations are mostly related to Kenter...I'll just move on to talk about him.

I will just come out and say it. He is a pompous asshole.

This guy is the reason I got frustrated. He is so self-centered and such a poopoo head that most of the time I'm like:

Now, you know what makes it interesting? I don't know if it is due to the writing or whatnot but I could stand him being a jerk for most of the book. That's right, I could stand watching this guy flounder around as he tried to get his way. Until his heart went doki doki too.

Spoiler tag here because I am going to discuss more end story stuff in relation to their romance:

Okay, finally, moving on to the final one of the trio. Lethia. The quiet girl who is very perspective and is pretty much the one who carefully patches things up when things go wrong and is the one everyone talks to.

I love her character as well. She doesn't have much to say and she does get freaked out a bit but, like her personality traits say, she is the character that makes sure the other two don't kill each other.

So, overall, this was an interesting read. For me, it seemed like a setup for what's to come next as when I think back on it, nothing too excited happened in this book. However, I do know I will be checking out the sequel when it comes out! ^_^

Tolomay was only 13 years-old when she was sent through the Pool of Light, 1000 years into the future. Her goal? To lead a new community of humans in a peaceful settlement, long after men have destroyed the planet. Although unprepared for the catastrophe that befell the first group of settlers, Tolomay was strong and survived. Three years later, the next group arrives. Now that she has learned to survive in a newly healed world, she must face a second, more challenging task. She must come to terms with herself, past events and her new companions.

Michael Lorde has crafted a fast-paced novel with a unique style and voice. I truly couldn't put this book down and am eagerly awaiting the second in the series.

I love the story of young Tolomay, a girl who was sent to find a safe place for her people. She won my heart with her sincere naivety, her determination, her consideration of others and their feelings.

I rarely read any other than historical fiction genre, but I'm glad I took this exception. This story is beautiful and very well written. I loved the descriptions of the 'new' world and it's wonders, unfamiliar to her and her people. I learned to live there alongside with her.

A delightful read I would recommend to anyone, regardless of their preferred genre.

This wonderful book quite captivated me. The pace was a little slow to get into as this new world was introduced, but then things quite took off and I didn't want to put it down. I loved the characters, Tolomay especially, and enjoyed seeing her growth. This book is quite rich in world building, but relationships also play a large role, within community, family and romance. I found this to be a very original read.

Tolomay's World is about a journey to a post apocalyptic Earth, almost too soon for the characters to tell if it's a dystopia or a world so pure and "how it was supposed to be."

After humanity destroyed Earth with its greed and without care for living creatures or the planet itself, some people are able to escape into a place safe of the voided planet.

This place, however, is on a different time plane than planet Earth so be prepared for some great science fiction writing from the imagination of M.E Lorde.

It's fascinating to experience this new world from the eyes of a young girl, Tolomay, as she survives what's really her father's journey to Earth. She's only 13 and yet thrust upon a mission much more qualified for someone with more life experience or so it seems from the perspective of others. In reality, Tolomay, might actually be the "best person for the job."

With characters such as the brave and stubborn, Tolomay and her pet lizard Carmella (we all need companionship!) The sexist and egomaniac, Kenter; his smart and sweet-natured sister, Lethia. We find ourselves wrapped up with the lives of these few human beings as they struggle passionately to learn to live outside the comforts of their previous home: a pod.

This book gives us some backstory and let's us readers decide for ourselves whom we most can relate to, appreciate, love and question. This book isn't something you get everything handed to you on a silver platter. M.E Lorde doesn't treat his readers like idiots so prepare yourself to be excited with his writings and not want to put it down even for a second.

I'm truly excited for the second book, I can't wait! I'm thankful this story is a part of my life; in fact, as I was undergoing a strenuous closed-MRI, this story and these characters were what got me through! I was able to think about and focus on Tolomay, Kenter and Lethia and not that I was trapped inside a claustrophobic machine! :)

A beautiful story combined with a cautionary tale of what we face if we don't start taking care of the planet we live on and the resources that are left.

Tolomay comes from a time on Earth where the planet and all on it are nearly dead. Human life is about to go the same way, all thanks to greed and carelessness. A few people have developed a way to send someone into the distant future as a means to preserve humankind. Only their youth can be sent forward to an Earth that has recovered yet still bears the scars of destruction.

Several children in their early teens are selected and trained for the trip forward, but when the time comes, only Tolomay survives. Alone in a strange new environment, surviving through trial and error, Tolomay faithfully revisits the place she landed, waiting for the next group of travelers. With increasingly less hope, Tolomay builds a life for herself alone, with only her pet lizard, Carmella, to keep her company.

It's three years before more travelers arrive and Tolomay finds herself in the unique position of being younger than the new arrivals, and in charge. She must become their healer, provider, protector and teacher. Sparks fly as everyone adjusts to the new situation. Learning to live with others after three years alone is not easy. Learning to do so while trying to understand emotions she's never experienced and her father never explained makes things even harder.

What began as a leisurely read built into something I couldn't put down. At the end of the book, the author promises this is only the first of a planned series of seven. I am very much looking forward to the second book in this series, Tolomay's World and Mountain of Tegi.

I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review. You can pick up your copy at Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Smashwords.

An Excellent Post-apocalyps Tale

This is a very well written and clever book. I like the concept of the world and am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

The Author's description of the breakdown of society and the deaths of most of the world's population, that happens several centuries before the last desperate survivors produce the pool of light, is both frightening and believable. As is the knowledge that humanity is doomed unless something desperate succeeds.

There is one glaring inconsistency in the book but it needs to be there in order for the story to work and in such a well crafted book you can forgive popetic license.

The main part of the story, set in a post apocalyptic world, a thousand years after the final fall of civilization has a good romance with two strong minded people one of whom, the man, manages to continually misunderstand the girl because he is arrogantly self-centered having been considered one of the elite for many years before going through the pool of light.

The first book ends with two new and worrying threat to the heroes and makes you want to read the sequel straight away.

This is a great science fiction adventure story and I hope that the other books in this series live up to this volume's promise.

There is also room for a prequel detailing Tolomay's first three years alone in the new world as I think that how she overcomes the difficulties she faces and survives would make another great story.

For me, the second part of the story was where the fun began; when Kenter and his twin Lethia enter the clean world to meet Tolomay; the first. Tolomay is depicted to be a strong, very intelligent and kind hearted character, although her anger gets the best of her at times. I particularly enjoyed her arguments with the fairly arrogant Kenter, who had always been used to ladies fluttering around him and was surprised by Tolomay’s commanding behaviour. It was funny to see Kenter do the chasing, rather than the other way around.

My favourite was probably Lethia. She appears meek at times, preferring to listen than get involved with Kenter-Tolomay’s arguments, but always gives sound advice. Her loyalty to her brother is sweet, but I liked the fact that she was not always the good little girl, and therefore can stand up to others when need be.

The story became more and more interesting, the further I got into it, and the ending was especially eventful. I feel that the ‘war’ Tolomay fears will come sooner than anticipated now that Sandra, Kenter’s former lover, has arrived into the clean world.

This is my first book review ever. As a follower of a fantasy book club, I've started to read more indie books, and I want to support indie authors as much as I can.

I really appreciated the lead character in this book. It's not often that younger readers have strong, intelligent female lead characters to read about (Hermione Granger and Katniss Everdeen come to mind). Although I read this as an adult, I found myself wishing I had read this as a young teenager. I was not as fond of the male lead character, but some of the dynamics between Tolomay and Kenter are adorable. Kenter's sister, Lethia is also a fun character. It's nice to see more authors realizing that teens need more powerful female characters to inspire them. But don't get me wrong, readers of any age would enjoy this book.

This is not the kind of book I would normally read. It was given to me as a gift, and I'm very happy it was. I usually only read extremely popular books (best-sellers) but lately I've been reading more books by independent authors, and I've been happily surprised at the quality of the writing and how much fun these books are to read.

"Tolomay's World and the Pool of Light" by M.E. Lorde is a wonderful book where futuristic and apocalyptic scifi meets romantic love for nature and simple life.
Using a new and dangerous travel device 13 year old Tolomay is sent from a dying world to a clean and pure future to lead human kind to a new fresh start.
Not overloading us with the dying world the author focuses on our heroine who finds herself alone for several years in the unspoilt but isolated future.
Beautifully told with a eye for detail and charm (I just loved the bears that Tolomay encounters) and some romance when she eventually is joined by others this book is a pleasant and welcome addition to the genre. I loved that the new invention and its implications are one integral part of the story but are not the sole centre of the story, making this book more than a one-trick pony. I was also amazed at how the focus on one 13 year old girl in the wilderness could hold my attention so easily.
This is a very promising start to the series.

The idea of the book, going forward in time to survive and give the children a new possibility to make a world like it was supposed to be from the start, is a really interesting one.
The book is well written, with just enough suspence to keep you reading, and with enough open questions to want to read the next part of the series too.
The main character seems to be a typical young teenage girl, with all the problems of growing up, but with a lot of inner strength that makes you admire her. When the story continues and more young persons arrive in the future, the interaction between them gets more complicated, and causes problems, as you would expect in normal life too.
Certainly a book I would recommend to others.

After learning to survive off the land as the only human inhabitant of the new 'Clean Word' Tolomay Ramey is faced with an even bigger challenge. When companions to share the new world finally arrive, Kenter challenges her every step of the way. Believing he should have been the 'Original' inhabitant, the new community may not be as peaceful as intended.
I found that this book was fantasy and reality combined. Human thoughts and emotions overrule the perfect environment that has been created. For me, 'Tolomay's World' and The Pool of Light was a wonderful and wondrous beginning to what is sure to be a great series.

I actually had a hard time getting into this book. It read to me for the first couple of chapters like a science fiction novel which I'm not real big on. Kind of glad I didn't put it down though. Around 30% in is where it actually got interesting for me, and it stayed interesting from then on. That's about when they go for the swim through the pool and come out 1000 years into the future. That's actually quite a fascinating idea for me.

I must say the concept where humans have made the planet uninhabitable I find to be fairly plausible. You still can't live at Love Canal even after all of these years. I don't recommend living near Chernoble or the Rocky Ford nuclear plant either. The pool is basically mankinds last chance at survival.

Tolomay's World and The Pool of Light

Where to start………WOW. I literally read this book in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down. Tolomay is such a strong character, and with the addition of Lethia & Kenter there is a great balance. The concept is unique, it’s well written and has amazing character development and world-building. You learn more and more as the story unfolds and the ending leaves you on such a cliff hanger: this story is definitely only just beginning.

Warning: You will want to jump straight into the next book: Tolomay’s World and the Mountain of Tegi.

Reading this it soon became clear that the author is spending his time at world building for an epic story.

Characters is introduced and elegantly fluffed out and set in a world that went awry!

Not perfect, the three main characters is used to set of a broken world with it's strengths and weaknesses echoed in the personalities.

The world build from the ashes we left behind is intriguing. The pace of the story is fast and engaging and the stage, as they say are set for an amazing new series.

Tolomay has proven to be a smart and strong young woman. She is sent to basically clean up the world. This is a unique and original story line. It took me a few chapters to fall into the story, but once I did I was hooked. I loved that the author took a futuristic world and made it seem so real. WaAR

I was given a free copy of this ebook in return for my review.

This starts off with a very sci-fi sort of feel and I found myself engrossed in the story right away. The narration style was a little different but worked well and still felt natural once I was used to it.

Tolomay was brilliant and the situation she found herself in was so well described I felt like I could understand what she was going through.

There's a good deal of a romance sort of focus to the majority of the book which was a little too much of the sole focus for me after such a strong sci-fi beginning. Although there was nothing particularly wrong with the romance I think I'd have liked a bit more of a balance between that and the action side of things.

My biggest complaint with the book, however, and the reason it didn't get 5 stars from me was where it ended. It just seemed to stop, right after mucking everything up. One minute I was reading, enjoying the build up of tension and the new twist and then all of a sudden the book was over. I really really don't like it when authors do this.

If the initial goals of the characters are all sorted and there's some kidn of resolution to the main conflict of the book, even if it's just a temporary resolution I can wait for another book in a series to have the rest of my questions answered, but it seems a bit odd to just stop, part way through a story thread, where none of the stories main points of conflict have been solved at all.

Anyone who likes the softer aspects of sci-fi and the starting over humanity sort of plot lines with a healthy dose of romance will enjoy this story, but I'd recommend waiting until the entire series is out and finished before starting or you'll be left hanging in an awkward place.

This is one of the more original stories I've read in some time, not only in terms of the world-building and the premise, but the tone of the piece, which was really unusual but totally worked to create a really unique feel and voice. Tolomay is a colonizer, of sorts, an explorer / settler sent with a group of other young people (kids, really, at least when they are first sent) to carve a new path for humanity after they've endangered the species' survival via environmental destruction and so on. While the mechanics of how they get to this "clean" world are still pretty mysterious to me, they have a quasi-mystical-mixed-with-physics feel that are really interesting, and again do a lot to impart a lot of the "feel" of the culture that humanity has evolved into.

As others said, this is by no means a short book, but I had trouble putting it down. The characters are unusual and at times do some pretty odd-seeming and even unfeeling things...but they are deeply sympathetic, despite their "alienness" in some ways, and by the end I felt like I actually knew them, which to me is always a sign of really amazing characterization. I'm definitely going to go on to read the next books in the series....this is a very talented writer, in terms of vision and depth of feeling, especially.

A surprising glimpse into the future

A young girl is raised with one purpose--to lead her people into a future where they can survive an approaching disaster. Tolomay's courage and fortitude is remarkable as she faces a strange new world filled with danger and loneliness. She steps into the pool of light confidently, after all, her father looked into the future and would send her friends along soon. What kind of future had her father really seen? She finds clues and warnings in the ruins of her old home. Can she survive and build a safe place for her people?

Tolomay's story is filled with danger, courage, sadness, and love. It takes place in the distant future and gives the reader frightening glimpses into the decaying world that Tolomay and her people must escape. How many of us would be willing to step into a pool of light and leave everyone we loved behind? This young girl has more courage than most of us. The series is a refreshing change from books that make people blush or cringe. I'm anxious see how the story unfolds in future books.

The idea that a dying civilization is so desperate for survival that they’ll send their children into an unknown future, using a possible faulty and dangerous technology, is incredibly compelling. I was fascinated at how the author weaved all the intricacies between the worlds together and the complicated science that was involved.

I was completely invested in her characters. Her protagonist, Tolomay is this brilliant, amazing girl, but put to a task that I doubt most adults could handle. She’s fascinating and watching how she interacted with the other characters in the novel was wonderful. She’s complicated and vulnerable, though incredible capable, stubborn and brilliant – everything I love in a strong female protagonist!

The book is well written, hard to put down, and I was disappointed when it ended because I really wanted to know “what happened next.” I will definitely be getting the next novel to find out. Excellent job – a really great, fun, interesting book.

The style of the characters speech was strange- but in a good way. I felt it lent credibility to this being in a first person view of the main character whom is supposed to be one of the last humans. It makes sense our way of talking would alter and I quite like the effect. It makes the characters seem cold and distant but the way they feel is warm and bold. An interesting contrast. The is a bit rushed I feel but the cliff hanger ending has got me wanting more!! D:

Overall, this was an enjoyable read, I liked the world building, I liked Tolomay, the character development was spot on. I'm a huge nerd for dystopian fiction and this has everything I look for. Political intrigue, a dying world, and of course some mystery and romance.

Tolomay's World and The Pool of Light by M.E. LORDE

I was fortunate to be sent an Amazon gift card for this book - thank you!

A fantastically written story and without doubt will keep the reader gripped - not wanting to put this one down!
The story is encapsulating and the style the writer maintains displays great storytelling throughout the tale.

A wonderful scattering of sensitivities and romance from the softest thoughts to strong adventures to save mankind.
The futuristic setting is mysterious and Lorde develops the story of the 13 year old girl with superb detail and great flow.

A super start to a new series with well-rounded characters on a mission to thwart the dark in this dystopian fantasy.

Last survivors of a decimated earth send a few people into the far future where the earth has recovered enough to support humanity once again. The intriguing premise is spoiled by flawed writing. Many errors would be picked up by a good copy editor. It's possible the author was content with publishing her first draft (a problem far too prevalent these days). This is the first in a series... hopefully the author will learn the craft better as we go, including researching, editing, tightening, filling holes, maintaining consistency, believable characterization, etc.

I received this book for free through Goodreads.

This is a jarring look at a potential future in which the world has been decimated. 'Tolomay's World and The Pool of Light' by M.E. LORDE is written by a wizard - the descriptions are frightening, the plot complex, the world-building impressive, yet it is all pulled together in a gripping tale. Tolomay is sent forward to a future earth and is stranded for several years. When the others arrive the real difficulties begin.

This is a real page-turner and the start of a cool series. I’ve already ordered the next book. Anyone who likes an intense dystopian fantasy(even a thread of romance) will enjoy this series. Highly recommended 5-stars.
