DNF.

This is a collection of scenes from published works of the many authors listed - not full stories, not short stories but deleted scenes, the stuff that didn't make the cut.

Good thing this was Kindle freebe or I'd be much more than sadly disappointed.

JEWELS OF HISTORICAL ROMANCE is a wonderful collection of favorite scenes from some of the best writers of the genre. Each has their own writing style and preferred settings and themes, but they share a talent of being able to lose a reader in a magical world full of romance like none other. Every one of their eloquently written books, like the authors themselves, is indeed a precious jewel on its own merit, and this collection of some of their favorite scenes is like finding a chest bursting at the seams with sparkling jewels on a swashbuckling pirate's secluded beach--or a claymore-wielding, plaid-wrapped Highlander's torch-lit cave --or in a rakish duke's tumbledown estate's secret passageway. You get the picture. :)

The best part about this collection is that it can be a key to unlocking a wonderful new world of great reading. If you've never read any of these authors before, there isn't a better introduction to them than to turn through the pages of this collection of delightful scenes. If you don't find at least one author that you just HAVE to download as a result, I'll be shocked beyond belief. And if you enjoy one of these authors, it is very likely indeed that you will enjoy reading the others as well. I've made the web page listing these "Jewels" my personal reading list of a sort, and can say without a doubt that I've never found any of them less than a stunningly fantastic and utterly memorable read. They are in my Kindle's "keeper" collection most certainly.

This is a collection of snippets from published works, the authors' favorite scenes from their historical romances. It also included lots of background information on the authors and other marketing information, for this is, of course, a tool to tempt the reader into buying the author's work.

As to quality, there was an assortment of historical romance sub-genres, including Regency, Georgian, Medieval and Lady Pirate, among others and my reaction to some of them was indifference, finding them improbable or just not my cup of tea. There were a few that were truly gems, however, and the ones that I liked the most were in periods that I don't normally favor. I have at least a couple new books on my wish list.

None of the stories were bad, but a couple clearly outshone the others.

This was a nice surprise.

I found this book because last year I did the A - Z reading challenge and I had no J in my kindle. I did a search in amazon and I think it was free when I found it. So...I needed the J but the "historical romance" part was what caught my eye.

I read it a few weeks ago. It's a collection of favorite scenes/excerpts of a book from the authors listed in the cover. Each author tells in a few words why it's their favorite scene.

I really loved some scenes, so much that I bought or I'm in the process of buying those books just to know what happens next.
Other scenes didn't do it for me, they were good in general but they were not the style I like. And just one of them bored me, didn't like it at all.

The only reason I gave this 3 stars is because these were not short stories as I thought them to be. They are in fact snippets of scenes from a book each authors has written.
Some authors included here are new to me, so it was a chance to sample their work. I've enjoyed reading these and searching for books by these ladies, I have found a few have books Free at the moment.
One snippet I particular has really caught my interest, so funny, I have bought the book Untameable Rogue by Annette Blair, and I can't put the book down.

Hints of Fun

This free collection gives excerpts from several different books, temptations to buy the whole book. As a sales pitch, it is a good gimmick, and led me to add several new authors to my wish list. Some of the authors were already familiar to me, and the tease directed me to another of their books. All in all, it is a good collection, and might help you select your next book. Now if only I could narrow down the possibilities.

Every piece of these novels that were included in this collection made me want to read the full length novel. I had read a few and had another few already downloaded, but these short scenes from the novels really pushed me to get to them and finish with the characters in each novel. I am very excited to read the full stories.

I don't usually go for romance, much less hystorical, but since this was a freebie, I thought I had nothing to lose. I'm more of a sci-fi/fantasy kind of girl, so I was definitely in unknown territory.

This was an excellent read, and I have a few new books on my wishlist! It really opened up my eyes to the genre. Absolutely beautiful scenes from very talented authors.

Choosen excerpts of the various authors favorite pieces.
I am not a fan of this type of reading, but feel it is a ploy to encourage purchases so you know what happens next.

An Assortment of Jewels

This was an interesting compilation of a variety of romance authors that I came across. There were two authors that I had previously read their books a couple of years ago and made me think that maybe I should read on their other works as well. This compilation of short stories had an handful of a variety of romantic stories that made you want to read more than just a few paragraphs. It had the basic elements of first love encounters to a loser's consolation prize wife one hero won at gunpoint. I'm definitely going to be looking out for a couple of these authors works!

Scenes from historical romances!

This book contains favorite scenes from one book written by each author. I definitely wish to read the books introduced by these scenes that I have not already read.

A big disappointment overall. I'm not sure why ANY of these snippets would be considered "gems". Frankly, I was a little bored throughout the majority of them.

This is a good way to get some idea of several authors writing styles. It saved me buying blindly and helped steer me to a couple of authors whose books I may try.
