Rate this book
If you want to build a website but have been put off because it looks too complicated and confusing, WordPress Step-by-Step will take you through each and every step of the process.

Written for the complete beginner, it's an easy-to-follow, visual guide to building a website from scratch using the free WordPress publishing platform. You won't need to learn any web programming or turn yourself into a computer geek.

What is WordPress?

WordPress is a powerful publishing tool that's the single most popular way of publishing websites and blogs. It's used by Fortune 500 companies, startups, small businesses, bloggers and non-profits alike to build a professional presence on the web.

Because WordPress lets you add and edit content through a web-based admin area, it's easier to use then you might imagine. In fact, you can build a great-looking site without being a web designer or computer geek. You can edit your website design as much as you like and add new features with a few clicks of the mouse, or you can use the default design for an equally professional-looking site.

In plain English, this step-by-step book, written by a WordPress expert, helps you buy a domain name, get web hosting and set up WordPress so you can make a beautiful website or blog.

Clear explanations and over 55 images of the admin screens and tools mean you can see exactly how to do all this.

What you'll learn in WordPress Step-by-Step

*How to choose a great domain name and get professional, reliable hosting

* How to install WordPress in a few mouse clicks

* How to publish posts and pages with correctly formatted text

* How to give your website a professional touch by using images and videos

* How to customize the design of your site without needing to be a programmer

* How to extend your site even further with "plugins"

* How to structure your site so you'll get found by Google

* How to keep your website secure

* How to solve the most common WordPress problems

...and more.

There's also a free bonus chapter on getting the first visitors to your site.

Plus, the book is packed with links to additional resources and free design themes and plugins to help you build a website on a budget.

By the time you've read the book you'll have a unique, professional and easy-to-use website to be proud of - and you'll have created it yourself!

Important: This book is currently the most up-to-date WordPress book available on Amazon. Some of the older WordPress books were published more than a year ago - a lot has changed since then. This guide describes how to use the latest version of WordPress (3.5).

Whether you want to build a simple website for your company or organization, make money with a blog or a full online store, this non-geek guide will get you online quickly.

Headache gone

WP can be a little tricky and this book simply made things easier for me with great advice. I was a little overwhelmed at first, but kept through the book and everything started to make sense.

Thank you for creating this book! It was a huge help.

"WordPress Websites Step-by-Step" by Caimin Jones is the owner's manual that should come with every website or blog developed by using WordPress. Caimin has extensive experience using WordPress, and he has encountered just about every question anybody could come up with. He has taken his knowledge, distilled the techno-speak down to plain English, and put together what could easily be called a "Do It Yourself" guide to building a website or blog.

Just making that one simple accommodation would be a great help to most people, but Caimin went even further with his desire to make this easy. He has created a step-by-step set of instructions to help you build a website using WordPress, with its many helpful and included tools. His title says it all: "WordPress Websites Step-by-Step - The Complete Beginner's Guide to Building a Website or Blog With WordPress". It can't get any clearer than that!

When I was a child, certain toy kits came with instructions like this: "Insert Tab A into Slot B", which sounds simple enough, until you actually start trying to find Tab A or Slot B. Caimin's instructions are nothing like that.

He provides a laundry list of options for your consideration, then shows and tells you WHERE to find what you'll need to implement your chosen option, then shows and tells you HOW to do what you have to do to end up with what you want to end up with. (That sentence is more complicated than Caimin's instructions!)

This book should really be on your bookshelf if you think you will ever even consider the possibility of developing your own website, online store, or blog. Even if you KNOW you NEVER intend to do any of those things, but are just curious about how they are done, you need this book. This is the cookbook containing the recipe for how to make a professional looking, inexpensive website. I heartily recommend it for anybody who knows how to turn on a computer and click a mouse.

I have been using Wordpress for sometime now, and as Mr. Jones advocates even delved into the more complex Wordpress.org version.

You have to be a little tech savvy to use this version, unless you read Mr. Jones' guide. Here things are laid out very well, and there are links to the plugins that he recommends that will enhance your site.

Perhaps the one thing that he could have added would have been more examples, and illustrations showing exactly where to look on the website you are building. Perhaps creating a fictitious website to take us all the way through building and then we could have fabricated our own while reading this very quick, but thorough guide.

Recommended for anyone who needs a quick website and will use Wordpress to do it.

WordPress Websites Step-by-Step takes away the fear of making your own site.

I have been using WordPress for a number of years now so I basically knew everything in this book but there is definite value here for the newbie or someone who isn't that confident with WordPress.

As someone who works in social media many of my clients want to control their own sites and I often recommend WordPress to them. I will also recommend this book as a guide.

Thank you Caimin for putting WordPress in plain English.

Recommended to those who want to make their first site or need help with a present one.

I used this book, step-by-step, as the title says, to set up my blog on WordPress. The information is presented in a clear, logical manner and I set up my eReader next to my computer as I worked through the steps. Outstanding.

I would have preferred more screenshots. Laid out simply, good for starting your own site. If you are working on a pre-existing site, not as helpful as other books might be. Good for those with little website experience.

Lots of gaps for a step by step guide

I wouldn't recommend purchasing this book, but if you can get it for free and you are a complete novice to Wordpress it could help save a couple hours in searching for the answers online.
