In this hilarious adventure for elementary school readers, a team of lovable, fuzzy guinea pigs gets online to solve their mysteries.
Fuzzy the guinea pig is a great friend to have—he’s always cheerful, he cooks like a pro (his specialty is ketchup and dish soap), and he loves to surf the web. His stylish hutch-mate Coco is Fuzzy’s best friend, though even she can’t understand his fascination with computers.
When Fuzzy goes missing, though, Coco is forced to get online for answers. On the social site Micespace she learns that her friend could be in terrible danger, so Coco assembles an extraction team to get him back: Terry, a technology whiz whose computer skills are second to none; Banoffee, a mother of fourteen with the organizational and motivational powers to match; and Eduardo, the heroic (and very handsome) Peruvian freedom fighter. Will Coco and her guinea pig commandos find a way to rescue Fuzzy and get back home alive?
Jennifer Gray has been writing children's comedy for a couple of years. She is also a Barrister and she knows how to spot a cat burglar when she sees one, especially when he's a large tabby with a chewed ear and a handkerchief round his neck that says Atticus Claw. Jennifer's other books for children include Guinea Pigs On Line, co-written with Amanda Swift and published by Quercus. Jennifer lives in London and Scotland with her husband and four children, and of course Henry, a friendly but enigmatic cat.
Absolutely charming book. Definitely recommend. one of my favorites this year. I loved how it was short but still long. Something unique. Different perspective.
This was an amazingly, fun, cute book and I will be sure to get all the other books in this series as well.
I spotted one of the books in the series in my book store (magic), I didn't realize it was book 4 though, luckily, I didn't buy it immediately (due to me promising myself not to buy too many books). Instead I checked Goodreads and found out the book I saw was book 4. Thanks Goodreads for saving me from buying a book so far in a series. :D
I love Guinea Pigs, they are super adorable and really clever (though they at times make sounds like a Velociraptor, which is kind of creepy). You will see that cuteness, the cleverness, and of course the adorableness (due to the pictures) in this book. A lot. So be warned, you will be squeeing and awwwing a lot. Though also being amazed at these little guys. They can access the internet, they can install wifi, ride on a doll scooter, they can play harp, and much much more, it was just amazing, and a bit over-the-top, but I didn't mind that in this case.
Our main character is Coco, though Fuzzy and, later on, Eduardo, have a big role as well. Coco was quite nice and I loved her talks about the Palace and the Queen, at times I wondered if she really was a royal Guinea Pig or just acting all high and mighty. She did have a mean streak though, and said some really hurtful things. Though I think she didn't always notice it. She is quite naive, but she is also dedicated. She could have decided to just leave Fuzzy to his fate, but no, instead she goes to find him, goes to rescue him, and that really shows that while she is quite mean at times, she also really cares about her friends and her owners.
Fuzzy was an interesting Guinea Pig, and also really kind, but also really a big of an idiot. He isn't in the book for a big part of it, but the parts we do see him I really like him. I also like that even though he is a Guinea Pig he tries to cook and become a chef.
Eduardo, he really stood out as he wasn't a domesticated Guinea Pig, he was a free Guinea Pig. He was a really interesting character, and I hope we will learn more about him in the next books that are coming. :)
The story, the villain? I loved them! I really flew through this book, before I knew it the book was over, the story was told, various things came to light, and I wondered where my time went. :)
The illustrations are really fabulous, I love how the Guinea Pigs are drawn. They really pop from the pages, as if they would at any moment just run through your house, use your blender, internet and whatever they can get to. Though I have to wonder who coloured the cover, as Eduardo is being described as having a blue satchel, but he is wearing a green one on the cover. :D
I would highly recommend this book to everyone! Read this! You will laugh, cheer and enjoy the antics of these Guinea Pigs.
gr.2-4 I had high hopes for this series - fun, furry characters, larger font, white space, spot art. I had to read the first page or so many times to really get into the story, and even then it took some pages to fully feel immersed. I think kids would like some of the slapstick humor and shenanigans and the world from the perspective of a guinea pig when the humans aren't around. Some of the art was so stylized I couldn't discern what exactly was happening - was it fur, or an inanimate object I was working on? It is also a little long for the first chapter audience at 178 pages - and as a reader I thought it went on a bit too long. I read this one and Christmas Quest. I had the same experience with both. I think it is a good package - just needs a bit of tweaking and I think it would be a great first chapter series. We just got them at the library, so it will be interesting to see what happens with the circulation.

I really liked this book. I think that people should read this book because it might be funny to some people and it is really a good mystery.
My favorite part of the story is when Coco talks to the queen and the food that the restaurant gives the queen is nasty. Can a guinea pig give the queen her best meal ever?
I recommend this book to all guinea pig lovers, or to a person looking for a mystery.
I thought that this book was very cute, and I almost fell out of my seat laughing. My favourite character was Banoffee, but Coco de loco del posho of Buckingham Palace was also very cool. ("I was once owned by the Queen, you know.") And who could forget Eurado, who thought that all guinea pigs needed rescuing, but then he found that Fluffy and Coco were perfectly happy as they were with Henry and Henrietta, their owners, and Coco, Fluffy and Eurado became best friends.
When Fluffy goes missing and a clue on Micespace reveals where he is and that he is in terrible danger, Coco is forced to do something she has never done before- use the computer.
Guinea pigs online – over the top fun, wacky hilarity that works for both adults and kids. Guinea pigs are adorable but did you know they are also tech-savvy and smart and brave – well, read this book to find out! I fell in love with the characters – the guinea pigs – in this book and look forward to more of these books. Though some of the scenes were just a little too out-there for me, I enjoyed the book from end to end. Rating: B Reread Level: 3/5
My 8 year old daughter really enjoyed this book due to its adventure and humor but it also gave a good opportunity to discuss e safety with her. Lots of cliff hangers for children to predict what happens next, but tame enough to make accessible for children from year 2 upwards.
This is actually my 7 year old daughter's rating as she adores the GPO series. Great characters with genuinely funny moments. First book she's ever read on her own, would highly recommend.
