This is a very sweet book, and well-written. I find the basic background concept a bit off-putting (dogs are a sentient alien species that have shepherded human evolution through the ages? I just don't see it.) and the ending seems to me a bit unsatisfying. This is far closer to a four-star rating than to a two-star, but I can't quite bring myself to give it that extra star. But then, I'm more of a cat person.
