Bible Doctrine: A Pentecostal Perspective is the statement of doctrine of the Assemblies of God, expressing the sixteen Fundamental Truths and their scriptural basis. Menzie’s book is dense, as there are often Bible verses cited with every clause in a sentence. For this reason I did not rate the book higher, as it does not read smoothly when multiple beliefs are so brief and tightly compacted together and interrupted by citations. Yet I also give it credit for covering so much doctrine with scriptural basis. Menzies gives only a little attention to contending doctrines within the book. The glossary is useful for those who are not familiar with religious doctrine and issues.

A basic overview of the 16 fundamental truths of the Assemblies of God. Although I believe the book accomplished what it set out to do, it felt a bit shallow overall. A decent intro to the doctrines but more in depth looks at them would have been better. Maybe this just wasn’t that book but overall I’d say it was good but nothing spectacular or noteworthy.

Lacks Charisma (In More Ways Than One)

For a Pentecostal perspective on biblical doctrine, I couldn't believe that less than 20 pages were dedicated to Baptism in the Holy Spirit & the initial evidence of tongues. Other than that, the content was your typical stuff - only less interesting, with more typographical errors, with relatively weak arguments (making jumps and assumptions in his logic). Basically, all the essential teaching were included, but none of them were delivered in a very impressive manner.

My rating:
1: don't read
2: mediocre
3: good
4: great
5: everything i wanted it to be.
It's alright, but it's written to pentecostals. He makes very hollow arguments and doesn't clarify or give support. If you're an AGer, go for it. If you are wanting resolution to your questions about pentecostalism, only use this as a support not a primary source.
