Tourists flock to Jefferson Point for the antique shops and riverboat tours. Everyone knows everyone and secrets are impossible to keep. Or so it seems...
Dr. Ryan Harper's brutal slaying stuns the picturesque river town. High school football star, Prom King, and on his way to finishing his residency, Ryan was their golden child.
After a two-year struggle to care for their young son alone, his widow, Nicole, reluctantly returns to Jefferson Point. Her homecoming reopens old wounds, as Ryan's family and friends struggle to adapt to life without his dynamic presence.
The last person Nicole expects to reconnect with is Aaron Foster, Ryan’s best man and reluctant keeper of his secrets.
With opinions circulating on Nicole’s post-Ryan existence, she must maneuver the rapids of past loves, new expectations, and haunting dreams of her fallen husband.
The Perpetual Quest for the Perfect Life is a frank story of questionable decisions, small town politics, and love after loss.
Raised in small town Iowa, Michelle Pace is an international best-selling, multi-genre author. After studying theater and vocal music and directing and performing in numerous productions, Michelle went on to earn degrees in both liberal arts and nursing. Determined to avoid shoveling snow, she relocated to the Lone Star State with her husband, author L.G. Pace III. Still most at home while entertaining an audience, her mission is to write gripping fiction, not fairy tales.
I was lucky enough to beta for Quest. This is a story I am so excited to share with the world. This is not simply a romance, it has every element I need. We felt the love, the pain, the heartache, the redemption. It’s not often an author hits every element. Quest does have a larger cast than the average book, which was concerning when I began, but quickly found it added to the story, there is just enough of everyone to make the novel complete.
Nicole and Aaron were the main characters, with an excellent supporting cast. Nic has lost her husband and is starting over with her son Ike, in her hometown with her friends and family near. We see her struggles with getting over her husband’s death, realizing what could have been, and getting her life back. It takes so much to move on, every single one of these characters felt so real and relatable. Aaron and Nicole were meant to be, he was her husband’s best friend, and her closest confidant for years. You can feel it from the moment they see each other again after all these years that there is a major love there. But Aaron is in a new relationship (with a hilarious crazy, Joy), and he has a hard time admitting his feelings. There is a loyalty to Ryan, and trying to do what’s right.
Avery is Nicole’s best friend, and Ryan’s sister. She is strong-minded and not looking to settle down anytime soon. She is always freshly polished and manicured, has a great job, and just wants to have fun. Until she meets Shilah. Shilah is down-to-earth, a man’s man, kind-hearted, and ready to take on the world for the woman he wants.
Then we have Lauren and Jack, who are already married, have a family, and trying to make it work. I loved Jack, he has his flaws, but loves his wife, and is willing to do what it takes to keep her.
The Perpetual Quest for The Perfect Life is one of the best books I have EVER read. I am re-reading (for the third time) right now. I cried, I laughed, and told every single one of my book friends about this incredible story. I am so lucky Michelle asked me to help with this. It was such an honor. <3 you M.
I don't know where to start with this book! I can say that I am sitting here smiling as I am typing this review. I could not have loved this book anymore than I did! There aren't many positive adjectives I wouldn't use to describe this book! It is a work of art! A work of art? Yes. I will be honest. I was shaky with the last book of Tammy Coons and Michelle Pace's book I read. I am not saying I didn't like that book. It just didn't flow for me. So, needless to say, I was just a tiny bit apprehensive going into this book. Just a tiny bit because so many readers absolutely raved over this book! Now I know why! You would never know that two talented woman wrote this masterpiece! I think many of us can relate to the town of Jefferson Point, whether we have lived in a small town or grew up watching TV shows about small towns. This book took me into a journey of love, loss, friendship and family. As always, I am not going to give away the plot. I will tell you why you MUST read this book! I cried. I laughed. I smiled. I frowned. I got totally pissed off. I love when a book elicits so many emotions from me in one simple story of life. This book could not be any more perfect than it is! I fell in love with the characters I should love, and I loathed the characters that were deserving of my loathing! I experienced everyone's love, loss and sense of betrayal. I was sucked in, and I cannot seem to disconnect myself from this wonderful story! It took me on a roller coaster that I wouldn't mind riding over and over again. The reality of loving someone, even despite their flaws, is so relate-able. I will be recommending this book to everyone I know. I cannot give this book enough of my praises!
Watch out Nicolas Sparks. Pace and Coons do a brilliant job with this book about life, love, and loss. This was a wonderful, touching, and witty story.
I was provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review of The Perpetual Quest for the Perfect Life. Honestly, I really didn't know much about the book and when I started reading it I was immediately "sucked" in~ Ladies I was so freaking excited that I had this that I totally............................................................
yes I was so psyched I had this in my hands I didn't know what to do with my little self. I'm going to refer to the book as "Quest" throughout the remainder of my review. There are not enough words in my very little limited vocabulary to described HOW IN LOVE I am with this one ~ This book made me feel like I was part of it and to make me feel like I was part of the book as well as having me feel like I was reading something that wasn't fictional was BEYOND what I expected. Quest is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE READS~ that's how brilliant this book is but let me share a little bit about it to entice you to get your hands on this book ASAP.
The book surrounds some of the residents in Jefferson Point. We have Nicole who is a beautiful young widow with an adorable toddler named Isaac, but she calls him "Ike." She lost her "love of her life" Ryan in a senseless act of terror when he was working at a Chicago Hospital and a gunman gunned him down. He was completing his residency and was one of those men that had it all ~ or so it seemed! He had been with Nicole since high school although he was a couple years older than her ~ people gravitated to his magnetic personality and good looks. Picture yourself doing this if you were introduced to him.............
Yep, that was Ryan~ But we soon learn that there were painful secrets that some knew and some didn't and how they coped with those secrets and their grief of losing a loved one is what "Quest" walks you through and it is done in the most beautiful way. It's real ~ not oh I loved him and next chapter I'm over him no Quest takes the time to really delve into each characters life and bring a piece of each of them to you that by the end they will be your friends too!
Avery is Ryan's little sister and Nicole's BFF. Avery is essentially the gorgeous "bad ass" businesswoman who is independent and has it ALL together ~ or does she? She is still grieving the loss of her older brother Ryan ~ the golden child ~ but how does she react to the secrets she learns about her own family. Avery was once engaged to the egotistical Jason who will both amuse you and disgust you will struggle with trying to figure out sometimes with how he acts, at least I did. Well Avery needs to move on an what better way is there to move on than with Shilah~ one helluva a gorgeous man who will make you................................................................
Avery & Shilah immediately connect and it was fun watching their relationship develop but also see how different they were at times. Shilah seems to have it all together as well as Avery but do they? Will Avery realize in time how much she needs to let go and let someone truly into her heart? Well READ this one and you will find out!!! We are also introduced to Lauren & Jack, married for four years with two adorable daughters. The hot Texan Jack has ladies doing double takes all the time but this man loves his wife! Lauren is gregarious, popular, and beautiful but is her life what it seems? Is she the open book that seems to be portrayed? She owns her own coffee shop with Jules, the tattooed, pierced and seemingly quiet woman who really is insightful and when her mouth opens you better open your ears!!
I would be remiss if I didn't mention the gorgeous Irish Hunk Colin...He comes onto the scene with a crush on Nicole since High School and I literally..............................................
Oh yes, I couldn't, hell wouldn't, turn that man away but Colin isn't the only one interested in our Nicole. See we have Ryan's BFF and Best Man in his wedding, Aaron. The side-kick that spent his high school and college days with Ryan & Nicole. Yes the gorgeous Aaron has a little obsession with Nicole that has lasted years and to see him fight that attraction will leave you..............................
Will he wake up and smell the coffee and man-up when it comes to Nicole? or will he fill his bed with the Joy's of the world where he gets what he wants in bed but doesn't have to really emotionally invest. Well again READ THE BOOK. There were parts of the book where I definitely ......................................................
and then parts where I was..........................................
actually there are several parts where you will be laughing ~ a certain little Halloween party will have you laughing but what happens later on with Lauren had me........................................
there were moments in the book where I simply......................
and others where I was..............................................
but when I finished the book I totally was .........................
This is another book that is BEYOND 5 stars for me ~ it blew me away with the storytelling which is simply magical. I feel like I spent the past few days with some very good friends and I don't want to say goodbye because I'm invested in the lives in Jefferson Point and I want more.
I would encourage you read this one ASAP! You won't be disappointed with this brilliant read about how we process grief, deal with secrets and ultimately let ourselves love again. I sure hope we see a lot more from Michelle & Tammy because I'm seriously HOOKED and totally in love with their combined writing style and I need more NOW!!
"You know? It's crazy to listen to the three of you talk. I've always thought, 'these guys really have their shit together.' The pretty doctor's wife, the bad-assed businesswoman, and Lauren, the most popular chick in town. But I guess no one really has their shit together. Everyone's on the quest for the perfect life...but the secret is there's no such thing."
This book....has something for everyone. There is not a doubt in my mind. It portrays what is a very typical small town in the midwest. At one point they claim it's incestual, and well, anyone who has lived in a small midwest town can relate to this all too well. Everyone has that one you left behind, everyone knows each other, everyone is up in everyone else's business and Michelle and Tammy portray that life perfectly.
The fact that there aren't just a couple main characters in this book is something that I absolutely loved. From the get go I felt as if I was a community member and these people were my friends.
Nicole and Ryan appear to be the perfect couple, but just like all things 'real life,' things aren't always what they seem. Ryan is taken from them much too soon and Nicole is brought back to Jefferson Point to start over. She is reunited with her best friends from high school, she is forced to interact with people that have known her all her life...and that in itself is a challenge.
Avery appears so headstrong and put together, but isn't it always those characters who have the most inner turmoil?
There are SO many characters in this book that there is someone for everyone to relate to....and let's not overlook the many male characters that are absolutely swoon worthy!
I really enjoyed this book. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made my heart go pitter patter, but best of all it was REAL.
"She's right. Life is fucking beautiful. Take chances, girl."
This is a good romance... but hold on because there is a lot going on. Lauren, Nicole and Avery have been friends since high school and each one is trying to find the perfect partner.
Nicole had been married to Ryan but he was killed in a senseless shooting. Over the last year she has struggled with raising their young son and moving on with her life. Aaron who had been Ryan's best friend at least before they had the falling out, is back. And he wants Nicole for his own. Nicole realizes she has always been attracted to Aaron. But can they overcome the lies and deceit left in Ryan's wake? Then there's Lauren. She married her high school sweetheart, Jack. He's very popular with the ladies which drives her nuts. So she decides to do a little flirting of her own. Headed for disaster right? And then there is Avery. Avery broke it off with Jason, her ex-fiance but she can't seem to say 'no' to him. At least until she meets Shilah in the most embarrassing of situations. There is an instant attraction. The only problem? Shilah works for Jason.
This story pulls you into the lives of these three women and their search for the perfect relationship. The ups and downs they go through - their fears, their choices and all that they discover along the way, some they wished they hadn't. An interesting read. I look forward to reading more by these authors.
My first thoughts on this book are, nice storytelling, the third person narrative was executed well, and the characters were real. Really real...
Nicole, Avery, Aaron and Shilah...ahhh, the love stories for these four would have sufficed me, but the additional interwoven characters held the threads perfectly together. The journey for each of them to find their peace made even the reader doubt their angsty decision making. The person who said, "doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, is the root of insanity", sure knew what they were talking about. Although, if you learn, and I mean, truly "get it", your life will be abundantly better. Each of these characters had something to lose, something to gain and a correct path to take - the question was, would they chose the right one?
Pace and Coons' story had many parts to it - letting go being the biggest dilemma. With so many characters, I am amazed they pulled it off so efficiently, but they did and I am happy to say it was a moving, lovely read.
Review soon. Short version: Loved the characters and situations in this story. A whole cast of fleshed out characters with real lives and problems, yet all of them revolve around the life and death of the town golden boy, who is now gone. Secrets, lies and surprises. Really good read.
This was a beautifully told story about life, love, second chances set around a small town with a cast of supporting characters that I did enjoy.
I was swept up in the lives, loves and drama of the folks of Jefferson Point and especially loved the interwoven stories following the death of one of Jefferson Points favorite sons.
We meet Nicole as she is starting a new life with her young son Ike following the tragic death of her husband Ryan. Nicole makes the decision to move back to her old town for the family support she needs and to start a new life in familiar surroundings, although she does so with a little trepidation.
It has been a couple of years since Ryan’s death and we get to see, via flashback the events that unfolded before his death and the secrets that were seemingly buried and forgotten.
“It’s not the length of life, but the depth.”
We learn how Ryan’s life and death had such a profound effect on those he loved and who loved him and how he left a trail of hurt and anger behind him and my heart really did go out to Avery, Aaron and Nicole at these times.
I love second chance love stories such as this and I really was invested in the blossoming love between friends Aaron and Nicole. It truly was beautiful, as was the secondary relationship between Ryan’s sister Avery and Shila.
“I can’t keep trying to build something with you if you won’t let me in.”
These four really did capture my heart and I adored every moment I spent with them and how they dealt with their emotions and fears.
Spending time in Jefferson Point with its residents really was fun, at times heartbreaking and quite moving.
For me though, I was so invested Aaron and Nicole who I felt were the guts of the story and as such I felt I didn’t really get to know them as much as I would have liked , nor was I afforded the chance to spend as much time with them as I would have liked. It seemed as if their time was swallowed up in the numerous supporting cast of characters, most of which I really didn’t connect with and as such I wasn’t as invested in them as I was in the two blossoming love stories happening before my eyes.
I found myself rushing through a lot of the book to experience the flashbacks and to experience those beautiful moments with Aaron and Nicole and those warm and sensual moments with Avery and Shilah.
“Everyone’s on the quest for the perfect life…but the secret is there’s no such thing”
The authors did a fantastic job of pulling me into this story and as it’s told in third person you do get to experience the majority of the characters first hand.
Michelle Pace and Tammy Coons certainly managed to capture the small town atmosphere and there were times I felt I was there in the thick of the drama and kicking back with these guys.
I did enjoy this one, though it didn’t have the wow factor for me. At the end of the day I think I was far too invested in the what I saw as the four main characters and I would have liked to have spent a lot more time getting to really know them.
This was indeed a beautifully written book about putting the past behind you, moving on, throwing caution to the wind, believing in yourself and opening your heart to let others in.
ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review
I'm still recovering from reading this amazing book. I was fortunate to have won a paperback copy of this book in a blog tour, but also purchased an e-copy because I couldn't wait to read this story. I am so glad I did. I would recommend this book to everyone I know. As a reader from the Midwest I found this book even more relatable because the characters sounded like groups of my friends. From the very first chapter I was hooked. I found myself falling in love with the characters. Not just one character, but all of them. They were each flawed in their own way, but this only made me fall in love with them more. The authors did an amazing job of highlighting each character involved in the story while keeping several of the main characters at the forefront. The story wouldn't have been complete without all of the characters intermingled in some way. It was small town living at its best with everyone dating everyone and having a connection with overlapping relationships. I experienced a roller coaster of emotions while reading this book. There were amazing one-liners that made me laugh and there were moments I found myself crying with the characters over heartbreak and loss. To anyone looking for a story that was easy to read and keeps you engrossed in the lives of the characters, this is a must read. The authors wrote a relatable story of love and loss about the quest to find our own happily ever after. There were many paths taken to find the happy ending but eventually we all find our way over the bumps in the road and come out stronger after our journey.
This is book Is what I call a readers read, a novel rich with characters, twists and turns. I was given an ARC by the other for an honest review. SPOILER FREE. This is a novel to get lost in, truly an American quilt of diverse characters that all come together to create a masterpiece, my emotions ran the full gamut with these people. One of my favourite books, and not just this year. Quest is a story that stays with you, bravo Tammy and Michelle! Also, I want to give another star just for awesome sauce music mention selection, and the song at the fish fry, I did a music sync while reading, the tears were streaming....I think I may just go and reread it.
A beautifully touching story that will have you laughing as much as crying. It is impossible not to fall in love with this cast of characters!! The writing allows you to feel like you're right there with them. Real life subject matter that is poignantly explored and delivered in such a manner that you will want to read it again and again. "Quest" is a must read for everyone!!! Love it!!
4.5 Stars Joint review from The Indie Bookshelf by Angela McLaurin and Erin Roth
Angela- Life is never perfect and even though we don’t realize it, sometimes that’s what makes it perfect!
Erin- Coming home, moving on, and growing up; the perpetual quest of everyone on Earth.
What we learned about life…
Angela- It’s hard to move on, especially when the past constantly haunts you. Time changes people and sometimes happiness is where you least expect it. The ups and downs are not always bad things, sometimes it just what we need to be on the correct path!
Erin- Quest is a story about acceptance and love, and it reminded me that I don’t always know the real story about someone from the outside, and that it’s easy to pass judgment on others because of what I’ve heard about them or what I remember of them from growing up. Ryan’s character, in particular, reminded me that it’s true what they say, “the more things change, the more they stay the same.” I actually think that’s a French proverb, but I remember the Bon Jovi song…
Our favorite part of the book…
Angela- I loved getting to know all of the different characters. I could relate to all of them and they felt more like friends as I kept reading rather than just people I was reading about. I loved how we got to see the backstories of the characters as well throughout the story. The characters made the story real and something we can all relate with.
Erin- I loved the interactions between the characters as friends, especially at the post-karaoke party, because it was so much like my life. I especially loved the descriptions of everyone in high school versus now, and how most of them were very much the same. “Hookerboots” never gets old.
Things we pondered after reading…
Angela- I was an emotional mess after I finished this story. It was heartbreaking and emotional. I was left with hope that Michelle and Tammy will keep writing and that the story will continue!
Erin- I finished the book and sat on the couch for a while with a teary blind stare. I was sad that the book ended and hoped I’d see my friends from J.P. again. I hugged my babies and called my physician sister to remind her not to disarm any crazies that came into the hospital. I’m not sure I actually pondered anything, but I definitely sat and decompressed. I might still be decompressing, since nothing seems to be holding my attention.
Our thoughts on the characters…
Angela- There is no way you could not fall in love with every person in this story! Not only do you love them, you know them in your real life. Lauren with her snarky self may have been my favorite, though. Her witty banter helped lighten the seriousness and in my opinion, made this story!
Erin- The best thing about Quest was the REAL PEOPLE in the cast of characters. I mean, who doesn’t know a Nicole? Or a Lauren? I definitely know Avery, Jack, and Aaron; and that cute Sean. And Ryan—I know at least 5 Ryans. My husband is Shilah, minus the drunken father. That’s what made this book engrossing and real and likeable, the fact that it had characters we all know. I’m kind of torn over who I liked best, though. Every time I think I’ve settled on someone, I change my mind. My favorite couple was Avery and Shilah, though. Hands down.
Most memorable quote…
Angela- “But I guess no one really has their shit together. Everyone’s on the quest for the perfect life…but the secret is there’s no such thing”
Erin- I’ll be honest and say that I didn’t highlight a single thing as I was reading. I was so completely engrossed in the story that I couldn’t be bothered to stop and make a note. The only line I really remember is Ryan’s epitaph: “It’s not the length of life, but the depth. Ryan jumped into life and never touched bottom.” It reminds me of a friend (not a Ryan, and maybe not even someone from J.P.) who left us too soon. Quite fitting…
Our thoughts on Michelle Pace and Tammy Coons as a writing team…
Angela- I’m still trying to wrap my mind around how two people can work together so flawlessly to craft a story so touching and real. I think they are a dynamic duo and I hope they keep working together and delivering more beautiful stories!
Erin- I am still kind of baffled that this was co-written. I actually asked the author I knew if the other one was a figment of her imagination, thinking perhaps the co-author route is a marketing scheme. It seems that they both exist and somehow co-wrote this book seamlessly. I’m dying to know how they did it…
Why readers should buy this book NOW…
Angela- It’s a book that you will not want to put down. Yes, it’s that good! You will laugh, cry, and find some unexpected little surprises. This is a story you don’t want to miss!
Erin- It’s a reread. I haven’t read a book in a long time that’s been filed on my Kindle in the “Reread Collection,” but this most definitely is. I felt instantly at home in Jefferson Point; the characters are normal, everyday people, and were portrayed as such, with no illusions or fancy clothes. Quest is a true snapshot of America.
So if you have read Fury by Michelle Pace and Tammy Coons, then you know these ladies can write a great story. What I didn’t expect from The Perpetual Quest for the Perfect Life was how much I would feel from the story. The way in which Michelle and Tammy penned this story had a depth of soul to it that made the story more personal and viable. I found that there was a level of connectivity with the story. Even if certain events had not occurred in my life experience, I ‘got’ it.
Early on in the story, I was concerned with the number of characters being introduced. I thought the book would read like an episode out of Days of Our Lives and be very soap opera’ish’. I couldn’t have been more wrong. There was nothing superficial or Hollywood about The Perpetual Quest. The more I immersed myself in the story and got to know the characters, the more sense it made that all these characters would be so intricately tied to one another. Taking place in a small town, where everyone in the community knows each other, would not allow for these characters, to in a sense stand on their own; especially when a tragedy occurs. The further into the story I read, the more I relished in the inter-relationships of Nicole, Avery, Aaron, Shilah, Lauren, Jack, and Jules as well as Sean and Colin. Whether intentional or by association, this group helped each other see that life comes with mountains and valleys. They helped each other move on from their insecurities and push forward for the love that they wanted and needed.
There were a couple of points in the story that I really would have liked to see more development. But maybe, just maybe, Michelle and Tammy are saving those moments for a future book. I suppose we’ll have to wait and see. And if not, then we will have to draw our own conclusions of what may have happened. Characters and where the story could go with them that I would have liked to see more of would be—Sandra and John, Colin, Jack, Avery and Shilah. However, I think in order for that to have been achieved, the book would have been extremely lengthy and possibly too much of a good thing—so let’s keep those fingers crossed for another installment of the Jefferson Point community.
Overall this story is a wonderful read. There were a few editing misses but not major errors. For the most part, the characters were well developed and you got a sense of who they were, where they came from and where they were going. The story itself was heartfelt and sincere. You really could relate to it and all the situations that occurred. Secondary characters, were good and well thought out. They added some lightness and humor to the story to give it a lift when it might otherwise be a little flat.
The Perpetual Quest for the Perfect Life is not just a story. It offers you time to reflect and realize that life is short. You need to OWN IT AND LIVE IT!!! Put The Perpetual Quest on your TBR.
Everybody wants their lives to be perfect, the perfect marriage, the perfect house, job, ect. Reality bites because we all know that life is anything but perfect.
Synopsis: Nicole grew up in the small river town of Jefferson Point. A town where there are no secrets because everyone knows everyone and let’s face it, you just can’t keep secrets in a small town. You can imagine the shock when Dr. Ryan Harper is murdered. He was the town’s star and Nicole’s husband.
She reluctantly returns to her small town to raise their two year old son. Struggling to adapt to her life without Ryan she tries to make the best of it with her best friend Avery, who also happens to be Ryan’s sister. Things aren’t always what they seem. The last thing Nicole planned on was reconnecting with Aaron Foster. Aaron was Ryan’s best friend and also kept Ryan’s dirty little secrets but also has secrets of his own. *Insert town gossip here*
Avery along with the rest of her family has struggled with the death of her brother. Under constant scrutiny from her “perfect” mother, she is fed up with and ready to live her life the way she wants to live it. *Introduce hot Native American, Shilah a gorgeous man her mother wouldn’t approve of here*
A beautiful and heart felt story about dealing with town gossip, realizing that things aren’t always what they seem and people are definitely not always who you think they are. It is a journey about finding your way, learning to open up and understanding and realizing that it is ok to love again.
Why I enjoyed this book...
Flat out, I related to Nicole immediately. I personally know what it feels like to lose someone you love. It is absolutely a life changing event in more ways than one. You are constantly second guessing your decisions. Then you feel guilty for being happy but you can’t give up because you have people who depend on you, count on you so therefore, you have no choice but to put your big girl panties on and just deal with it. It affects pretty much every aspect of your life, a painful lesson in life and one that is completely unavoidable. This story had me crying, laughing, rooting and yelling. You also understand that everyone mourns differently. There isn’t a right or wrong way to mourn; you learn to deal with things in a way that works for you and you alone. All of the characters brought such a wonderful dynamic and it made the story that much better. You have characters you love, characters you want to punch in the face and characters that made you laugh.
Michelle Pace and Tammy Coons wrote such a wonderful story on a difficult subject. It is definitely a story worth reading.
Michelle and Tammy get better and better with every story they write. Definitely two talented ladies to watch out for!
This was a great read. It was perfect for my mood and gave me everything I wanted. Michelle Pace and Tammy Coons have woven a beautiful story about second chances, overcoming loss and friendship/family above all else.
I think my favorite part of this book was the fact that we didn't just follow one set of main characters, but instead there was a whole group of characters and we were given the chance to follow all of their stories. Nic and Aaron's story was my favorite but I adored Shilah and Avery and loved getting to know all of the other characters as well. The story is told from multiple POVs, which I think is a huge risk, but Pace & Coons transitioned seamlessly between POVs, giving insight into each character's experience without confusing the reader.
Nicole returns to her home town two years after her husband and high school sweetheart is killed. She is raising their two-year-old son alone and moves back to be closer to her in-laws, but Jefferson Point is a small town and she soon finds that coming home may not be as easy as she thought.
The Perpetual Quest for the Perfect Life had me hooked from the very beginning. There were so many different things going on between the characters but it worked because it was a small town so they were constantly interacting. I can't say since I haven't lived in a town like that, but it felt like Michelle and Tammy really captured that 'small town' feel where news travels fast and everyone is in everyone else's business.
The characters themselves were awesome. I loved them all in their own way. They were a big, zany dysfunctional group that caused too much drama but loved and supported each other anyway. I loved having the backstory on different characters, especially the way we got to see little flashbacks of Nicole, Ryan and Aaron's past. Their story was both heartbreaking and so sweet. I was rooting for Nic and Aaron the entire time, they just were so perfect for each other. You could feel the tension and how hard they were both fighting against their true feelings. And then there was Shila... mmm. Let's just say that Quest doesn't give you one book boyfriend but a whole bunch of hotties! But besides the man candy, this was a well-written story that was sweet, fun and romantic. I absolutely adored it and I definitely recommend it!
"But I guess no one really has their shit together. Everyone's on their quest for the perfect life...but the secret is there's no such thing."
4.5 VERY BEAUTIFUL, REALISTIC STARS!!! The Perpetual Quest for the Perfect Life is a story of love, loss, and the realization that while we all strive for perfection, no one really has it. I connected so much with the characters. There were several interconnected story lines that had me hooked from the very beginning.
Nicole Harper married her high school sweetheart. Very shortly after the birth of their son, her husband is killed in a tragic slaying. Two years later, Nicole is moving back to their hometown to be closer to their family. Moving back isn't as easy as she thought it would be, mainly because she didn't expect to run into Aaron Foster. Aaron was her husband's best friend and her own personal confidant at one point in her life. There is a history between Nicole and Aaron. One that neither can forget or get past. Furthermore, Aaron carries secrets about Nicole's husband that nobody but Nicole could possibly see coming.
The love between Nicole and Aaron is quickly obvious. However, both are way to scared to cross that bridge. As situations bring them closer, they push each other away, not knowing how to deal with the betrayal they feel for Nicole's husband.
As Nicole moves home, she is surrounded by many family and friends. Her sister-in-law, Avery, is continuing to deal with the untimely death of her brother as well as an ex that just won't go away. On top of everything, Avery learns some family secrets that changes everything she thought she knew. Dealing with all of this while trying to form a new relationship with the new guy in town, Shilah, proves to be very difficult.
These seemingly perfect people (on the outside looking in) deal with the troubles and tribulations of life and all that comes with it. Through it all, they realize that no one really has a perfect life, yet we all strive for it. All we can do is our best to get by with has much happiness as we can create.
I fully connected with this story. It was so realistic. Every event could and probably has happened to someone. The characters were so well developed and relatable. It was such a beautiful story that I would recommend for any and everyone
Wow!! I just read "The Perpetual Quest for the Perfect Life" by Michelle Pace and Tammy Coons and I loved it!!! I'm actually sad/bummed its over... I miss the characters already! It's a stand alone book, and to be clear, it has a conclusion & NO cliffhanger... but I would totally watch this as a TV series!
I absolutely loved this book. It's made me laugh, cry, swoon, laugh, shake my head and cry again... one of my crying times was a very "OMG noooo-whhhhy" sad, struck the gut, helpless/hopeless/heart breaking cry. (And the masochistic reader in me loved it) and more funny, swooning & happy moments!
A few of my favorite quotes & lines:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"You know? It's crazy to listen to the three of you talk. I've always thought, 'these guys really have their shit together.' The pretty doctor's wife, the bad-assed businesswoman, and Lauren, the most popular chick in town. But I guess no one really has their shit together. Everyone's on the quest for the perfect life...but the secret is there's no such thing." - Jules
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
...."Aaron Foster. Long time, no see" Paige cooed
"Paige." He gave the old high school mattress-back a sideways glance....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
..."Do you have catnip for boys in your panties, or what?"... - Lauren
I cannot say how awesome this story line is and how I enjoyed reading the POVs in it. Not many authors can write multiple POVs without confusion but this was smoothly & flawlessly written!
An amazing story of life & choices, getting up when you're knocked down... Finding love & overcoming odds that seem daunting.
When asked who my favorite character would be, I honestly don't know. To me there simply isn't one that I could choose one over the others. I felt each character.... How can I choose one when I felt them all so deeply? I can't. So, they are all my fav's! That is all.
I have to say that I truly LOVED this book! Both Michelle and Tammy did a wonderful job of balancing a loveable and relatable cast of characters. Not to mention the fact that I now have three new book boyfriends (a girl has to have her fun somewhere right?). The story has it all pain, loss, anger, love and most of all strength! Following the painful loss of her husband we follow Nicole on her journey to find herself again. Moving back to her home town proves to be more than she ever hoped for. Rekindling her friendship with her best friend turned sister – in – law Avery, Nicole learns that the perfect life is not always what you think it is. The past is never far and as much as she may want to forget, it will always be a part of the present. Life is a small town is not easy and Jefferson Point shows us just that. Old boyfriends and in-laws make Nicole’s journey that much harder but will reconnecting with her old friend and best friend of her late husband, Aaron, show her that letting go is what’s best? Michelle and Tammy weave a web of words that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Along with a cast of supporting characters that would fare well with books of their own (hint, hint) this story keeps you wanting more. I felt that I grew with each of the characters and the fact that I was crying from the first two pages made this read a true emotional journey for me. I felt as if I was renting a small one bedroom apartment in right there in Jefferson Point!! Life is not perfect and that is what is beautiful about it. We are all beautifully flawed and that ok because that’s what allows us to know we are alive! This book shows us just that. We all have issues and want the same thing in the end…The Perpetual Quest for the Perfect Life.
“But I guess no one really has their shit together. Everyone’s on the quest for the perfect life…but the secret is there’s no such thing”
Nicole comes back to town with her two year old son in tow after a horrible tragedy befalls the love of her life. The town where she grew up in, where she was never really good enough, where rumors spread like wildfires but friendships are testaments to the soul. Taking Nicole under there wing is her trio of girlfriends Avery, Lauren and Jules who have their own ghosts to face and their own stories to tell. Intertwined are the loves of their lives Jack, Aaron, Jason, Shilah and...... so many more colorful characters that it boggles the mind that these authors could keep all their stories straight. Quest isn't a romance, it isn't a drama, it is indescribable in normal book terms. Quest is a journey of the heart mind and soul.
This book blew me away, it took a few days to recover after reading it and I probably bugged the authors with so many questions because my mind just kept going on and on. My heart soared and broke, my brain came up with scenarios that would never come to pass and some that I wasn't even expecting. These characters aren't a fantasy that you read about want to be part of their world, they are already part of yours. Your best friend who maybe can put away a few bottles of wine but you should probably slap a gag on her, or the love of your life who has a secret that you just wish you didn't know. The girls you always had a name for because you knew they thought they were better than you and that one friend who carried so much mystery about them but who had the deepest soul you wished you could dive into. The way the words flowed on the page, it felt like my life was being told for me, even though it wasn't my life at all. I will carry this book with me for the rest of my life. It has made that big of an impact on my heart. And just a little selfish promo....Michelle and Tammy totally used my real name in the book *dances* I kinda rock...You have to check it out and let me know if you found me <3
What a wonderfully refreshing story about recovering from heartache, life's struggles, and death. I loved how The Perpetual Quest had a repertoire of characters that each had their own story, their own struggle, and their own likability factor. I was able to not only connect with the main characters of this story, but the circle of friends that was introduced throughout the book. This story follows the lives of several families and how they, like us, are trying to find and live the perfect life.
The book starts off with Nicole moving back home to the small town she grew up in and trying to reconnect with her husband's family after his death. Nicole has been dealt a terrible hand and is fighting like mad to stay above water and raise her son as a now single mother. She finds a new home, her old friends, and finds out that a little spark that started years ago is still there with a certain adorable man!
I loved that this book told each person's back story and included the entire cast of characters throughout the chapters. Don't get me wrong, I loved sweet Nicole, smokin hot Aaron, OH SO SEXY Shilah, and ball buster Avery... but what would this book be without Lauren?!?!?! She cracked me up with her snarky comments, hang you up by your toes and not care if you ever get down attitude, and her meddling into everyone's business. Her obnoxious behavior and bitchy comebacks hooked me in and made me laugh my butt off!
The Perpetual Quest is a great read! It is a quick, uplifting, comical book with a mix of romance, love, and frustrations.... OH the frustrations I felt with wanting Aaron to go after what he wanted!!! I give the Quest 4.5 stars on the knock my socks off scale and highly suggest everyone 1-Click this gem of a book!!
4.5 PERFECT STARS
Where to begin with this Perpetual Quest of questionable decisions and love after loss.....
Well, this story is about picking up the pieces when a loved one suddenly is ripped from you. Hating yourself for things you should have said and regretting things you shouldn't have said. This story was an emotional ride on trying to cope and continue on with life after a loved one dies. The story was more than just Nicole coping with the death of her husband Ryan, "The Golden Child", its also about Ryan's lies, deceit and betrayal. When Nicole and her son decides to move back to Jefferson Point to be close to Ryan's family, this is where the story begins. Her homecoming reopens old wounds, as Ryan's family and friends struggle to adapt to life without his dynamic presence.
There was so much going on in this book. There was a whole cast of characters with so much story to tell. I am kinda torn because I truly loved this story but I felt as though the authors were trying to write about too many people. Don't get me wrong, the book was awesome, I guess I would have preferred that they focused on Nicole's story in more depth but injecting the other characters through the story. As soon as I was connecting with a character, the chapter ended then another began with another character's life. Maybe, I have been reading so many books with series but the authors have an opportunity for more books since they still have so much more fleshing out of the cast of characters.
The Perpetual Quest for a Perfect Life is totally a heart warming book worth reading. I hope there will be more books to come.
Solid 5 STARS! "Everyone’s on the quest for the perfect life … but the secret is there’s no such thing.” I loved this book, the characters were so well developed and defined that they became real. This book absolutely did if for me, there was love, loss, feelings of insecurity, anger, infidelity, and strength to move forward, mixed in was a good amount of angst but not over the top. The one thing that struck me was through it all, Nichole was a mother first and always thought of and considered her son before thinking of herself. I loved the main story of Nicole & Aaron, they were destined to be together it just took them longer than normal and a pretty round about way. There were a lot of sub plots & characters and for the most part, the sub stories went along really well with the main story and most of the characters were necessary and very likeable. I could see this as a 5 star read for a lot of people, but there were a few things in the characters that held me back. This book showed adults in real situations of life, everything wasn't paradise and perfect and that's what made it so good. I'm so glad I read this book, it was as close to being life as we know it as it could be. I think Michelle & Tammy did an amazing job and these authors will be on my must read anything by them list! Not only did I love the characters, I loved the story behind each of them.
Let me start out by saying that I absolutely LOVED this book. These two authors write so cohesively, you cannot tell when one begins and the other ends. Reading the blurb for this story, you think it will be all about one character and her love interest. But it is so much more than that!
You are drawn into this quaint, little Midwest town. Much like any small town in America, everyone knows everyone else, and all their lives are inexplicable intertwined. There are 6 different POV's in this book, which would normally make you think it would be a clusterfu**. But it totally works! You are there, with them, and it makes sense. And it is done well. And you fall in love with each and every one of them. All their quirks, their insecurities, heartbreak, falling in love, etc. All of it!
In their own way, everyone gets a HEA, but not all like you think. Be prepared to be surprised, be prepared to fall in love multiple times, be prepared to have your heart hurt, then healed. Be prepared for a great story!
This is a book that you MUST READ! I was so taken with the authors writing style and the flow of the story was amazing. We have people looking for their perfect life. But is there such thing? The characters need to learn to adapt to the hands that have been dealt to them. But in a way that shakes and stirs them up a bit. To find the what you are really looking for in life, you have to learn to live a little. So with this story, we see each character going out of their comfort zones to approach life a little less timidly. It gutted me at times when I knew it hurt the character to reach out, but it was also something that needed to be done. Because the character was searching for his or her perfect life, ya know? I give this book 4.5 Stars and cannot wait to read more from these authors! Such a wonderful voyage into a new life of happiness and heart-ache!!
4.5 Stars. I love that this book was real. While it's nice to escape into Never Never Land sometimes, it's also nice to read about REAL people. That's how I felt about this book. The characters were all flawed trying to find their way in life. It brings home that there is no fairy tale and there is no perfect relationship. We all struggle trying to find our happy ending, and we all have our own journey getting there. This book brings that home for me. I loved it!!!
The book follows a small town setting and a group of friends. They each are in diffrerent stages of relationships or lack therof, and their flaws show all of them. They make mistakes, struggle to come to terms with past and present decisions in their life, and as the title so aptly descibes they are on a perpetual quest for the perfect life. Well worth the read.
I found out about this book through an author acquaintance of mine. It was recommended that I read this book since she really enjoyed it. I am very glad I did!
Life for Nicole has not been easy. This book takes you through the evolution of a truly fantastic character and her (along with the other characters) quest for the perfect life. I loved reading about all the characters and sub plots in this book and hope that Michelle and Tammy consider giving us more from some of the other characters, specifically of Shilah and Avery.
I gave this book four stars because I wish we could have had a longer view of the later part of life for Nicole verses what I felt to be a drawn out beginning that moved too slowly for me. I was glad I stuck with reading through it - well worth waiting for.
The Perpetual Quest for the Perfect life is a story about young thirty year olds who are figuring it out. Perhaps in figuring it out they have learned that maybe all along they had it wrong.
This is a story about acceptance and love. There are multiple characters that this theme is about. We get to experience several love stories all at once. The characters are witty, fun and sexy. You could place yourself in with Nicole and her friends.
"Everyone's on the Quest for the perfect life....but the secret is there is no such thing."
By the end of the story characters have grown, come to terms with whom they are, and accepted who others are too. This story not only is it about forgiveness and love but its about acceptance.
There is absolutely nothing about this book not to love. Every character (and there are lots!) brings something necessary to the story and they're all amazing in their own way. Throughout the story, each of the three leading ladies learns that while nothing about life is ever perfect, there is still happiness to be found and in accepting life's imperfections, life does indeed become "perfect."
What I loved most about this book was the interwoven stories of all the characters and within the context of their own individual lives, how they all interact and relate to one another. Lauren literally made me laugh out loud on several occasions, Avery made my heart ache, and Nicole made me want to stand up and cheer. GREAT read!
