Love

and War

Created by the First Born, The Night Touched created the bloodlines from which all modern day vampires descended. Different because of their incredible powers and advantages in the human world, The Night Touched were a special kind of vampire. However, they were believed to have died out centuries ago, and had been reduced to little more than whispers in the vampire world.

Until now.

Harper Kemp was the only modern Night Touched in existence. The reasons behind her creation were unknown and she had been abandoned during her change. Eventually she was found by Lily and Jason and taught how to handle what she had become. She learned how to blend in with the human world and even made herself in to quite the socialite of the New York City elite scene.

After a plea for help in her dreams and the dangers of a forbidden love, Harper is sent down a path to discovery; not only is she not alone, she’s about to face her worst nightmare ― a devastatingly handsome slayer named Silas with a finger on her non existent pulse.

I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed this book from the very beginning. The cover is stunning! This book had a way about it. It was an easy read because it was action packed and kept the reader interested. I liked how there are two types of vampires and I found the background about each type very interesting. I also liked how the author incorporated other supernatural beings, but they didn't take away from the vampires.
I enjoyed reading about Harper but I would like to know more about her. I want to know how she was turned and how old she was when it happened. I want to learn more about her family and before she became night touched. I also want to learn more about the night touched, they seem to have evolved powers and I want to see what else they can do. I loved that Harper was so loyal to her "sister" Celine, that she was willing to risk her life for her, even though they had never met before. The same goes for Celine, I want her story. I also really enjoyed Jason and Lily and I liked that Jason had opened up to Harper. And Silas, can't wait to see what happens there. Will he choose love or duty?
All in all, this was a great start to the trilogy. I can't wait to read more and find out where the story leads. I would recommend this book to vampire lovers. I look forward to the rest of the series.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. And honestly, I really wanted to like this book. Unfortunately, that wasn't in the cards. There is nothing new in this book. The main character is supposed to be a new type of vampire, but except for a heart light thing akin to E.T. there was nothing special or unusual about this vampire. In fact, none of the vampires in this book seemed to be very powerful or supernatural. Yes, once they were in the midst of battle they could kick ass, but oh, what trials and tribulations to get them there. They did a lot of sitting around bemoaning the fact that they needed more information in order to take action. C'mon! They're vampires. They didn't need information to get stuff done.

As well, I simply could not get behind Harper, the main vampire character. She often moaned about what a good person she is and that she doesn't deserve what is happening. Again, I say... C'mon! She's a vampire and kills on an almost daily basis. Never once did she have a crisis of conscience about that. Plus, she made stupid mistakes and decisions. She can't control when her "heart light" starts glowing but jumps into bed with a guy she hardly knows but is "in love" with. I don't need to tell you what happens next in that scene.

There is a plot twist, but I saw it coming a mile off.

Overall, there was nothing fresh, new or exciting about these vampires or the story itself nor were the characters very likable. Yet, this is essential in the vastly saturated vampire genre.

On the technical side, there were so many typos and garbled words that if I had not been given this book in exchange for a review, I would have stopped reading it. In fact, a couple of sentences were so messed up I couldn't figure out what the author intended.

I do wish the author well and hope she has better success with forthcoming books. Unfortunately, this one didn't do it for me.

Admittedly, it's been awhile since I picked up a vampire book. Twilight had it's good points, but how many copy-cats does a person want to read? Thank goodness, Celine is NOT just another Twilight clone. The vampires hearken back to the old days, when they were still creatures of the night who unapologetic-ally drank blood and kicked butt - when they need to.

Harper is a Night Touch, a special breed of vampire, and she's the only one - or so she thought. When she starts to have visions of a second Night Touched named Celine, she immediately wants to find her, but here's only one problem: Celine has been taken prisoner by the Slayers, a group of humans whose sole purpose is to wipe vampires from the face of the Earth.

They can't just go rushing in. Though vampires may be immortal, they can die, and if there are enough slayers lurking in the secret facility, there's a chance that Harper and her friends just might end up on the wrong side of a stake. But Celine needs to be rescued, and that means that they need to gather information and track down the secret base. If only Harper's new obsession with the hot human male Silas wasn't complicating things... Little does Harper know how complicated things are about to get! War is brewing and when it finally comes it will change their lives forever.

This was a fast paced read with plenty of romance and a climatic fight scene. I'm looking forward to the next installment and seeing how both Harper and Silas and the war progress.

If you know anything about my reading likes, I have loathed vampires since Twilight. However, my faith has been restored!!! Maegan paints such a beautiful image in your brain as you read until you can't fight sleep. Really! I fell asleep reading this book every day for 4 days!!!!!! It's so easy to get pulled into Harper's world and feel like you are right in the paranormal action. Then wouldn't you know it, love was thrown into the mix, and ripped away just as quickly. I cried, I just cried!!! Maegan really knock this out of the park and I will tell EVERYONE to get this hidden gem of the indie world!!!! Below you will find the goodreads link that you must click and check out! This is well worth the time!!!!!

As this is Ms Provan's first book, i had nothing to really compare it to...and that's not necessarily a bad thing!

I actually really enjoyed reading this book. It was written really well, flowed through each page and the story was consistent.
The main focus was on Vamps and Slayers - which is unusual, as for a long time Vamps have been shown in a kind of "harmless" light. This book shows them feeding and killing humans to survive, BUT they also revolve around 3 vamps who are firm friends, and shows that it doesn't matter what race/breed etc you are, friends are always important.

Slayers haven't really been written about since Buffy hit our screens, so it was fun to read from the Vamps point of View and know they're fearing that they could easily be killed by the Slayer organisation, and at the same time Harper (our main character) is trying to live as a Human....with not much success.

Harper is at the beginning of the book, the only known "Night Touched" - a name given to those sired by the First Born Vamp. This book reveals one has been discovered and being held captive by the slayers and the 3 Vamps arrange to rescue her.....

What was also good, was not very much sex - actually no sex scenes at all, but there are scenes of romance between Harpers friends Jason and Lily, which seems to be an unusual factor these days, but again, it was a refreshing change.

I read this in 5 nights of reading before i went to sleep.

What i liked about it, is it was easy to put down, then pick up and remember what had happened. I have an appalling memory so, to me this is a great point!

I was right, it did end on a cliffhanger, leaving it wide open for the series to continue, and i for one, am looking forward to reading it!

I finished reading the book the first day since I got it. I didn’t find it difficult to read because it grabbed me from the very first pages.
Harper is a very interesting character , but I would have rather knew more details about her turning into a Night Touched, how Lily and Jason were found and how they got in “their family” . I see her just like my own child, and the relationship between the three of them exceeds the definition of friendship.

The whole action gets complicated when Harper receives visions from another Night Touched, called Celine, whom was kidnapped and asked him for help. Harper learns about Celine, and she has to rescue her from The Slayers. Along the way, Harper falls in love for Sailas and she has to make some pretty difficult decisions about it. Both of them have some secrets and this hinders their relationship.

I get very restrained when it comes to vampire book. I believe it is because I’ve met them in so many books, but when I had the chance to read this book, I found myself very impressed by the fact that Maegan Provan managed to bring something new for this type of characters.Night Touched were created by the First Born (the first vampire) to create the bloodlines from which all modern day vampires come from. Each Night Touched has a mark that appears in a different place on their body. Celine’s appears on her wrist. Harper’s appears on her chest above her heart. Their marks glow different colors which gives insight to what kind of person they were before they died.

I think it’s a great book and I recommend it to everyone, not just to vampire book fans. I was very impressed by the story and can’t wait to read the sequel.

Celine is the first book in the Night Touched Chronicles. This is a series I’m very excited about because the author takes us back to the roots of vampires from old horror movies, while still adding a modern twist. Provan’s vampires are sophisticated, intelligent, and calculating. But, make no mistake—there is nothing tame or vegetarian about these vampires, particularly the Night Touched.

Harper Kemp believes she is the only Night Touched in existence. Sired by the First Born and left to her own devices, Harper is ‘adopted’ by Lily and Jason, two regular vampires who provide friendship and guidance. When Harper begins having strange visions of a girl being tortured, she realizes she might not be the only Night Touched in the world. And, she realizes she has a duty to save Celine from a horrible fate. In Harper’s life, the only consistency is this: Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong. If terrifying visions and the fear of not being able to save Celine aren’t enough, Harper also finds herself entangled in a relationship with a human man—Silas, who inspires feelings in her she’s never before felt. But is Silas who he seems?

This fast-paced story is full of tension, passion, and surprises. Once I began reading, I couldn’t stop and read it within a matter of a few hours. This is easily one of the most engaging vampire stories I’ve read in a long time and I would recommend it to both old-school vampire fans and to Twilight lovers alike.

*I received this book in exchange for an honest review.*
I enjoyed this book. I thought it was a new twist on a commonly written genre. I’ve recently become a bit tired of the vampire genre. I have felt as if it has become derivative and I picked this book to read for two reasons. The cover totally drew me in and made me wonder what the story was about, and the synopsis introduced a new breed of vampire.
In “Celine,” the author brings a new light to the undead. I loved the way she incorporated other supernatural creatures and introduced the vampire bloodlines. I do wish there had been more history in the book, but I figure the author is waiting to reveal that information in future books. A forbidden love, a new type of socialite vampire and New York City… a recipe for a great story.
I did see a few editing issues, and I’m going to duck after I hit the “post” button, because I know this is a hot button issue with reviewers and authors. However, not all indie authors have hundreds of dollars to spend on editing. They are simply just trying to share their story with the world. Maegan, thank you for sharing your story with me. I truly enjoyed it and look forward to seeing more from you.

Before I begin a book I tend to read the synopsis and a few reviews to get a feel of what to expect. This time I jumped straight into reading without any research before and i’m glad I did!

I loved the beginning of the book and found it really pulled me into the story and the characters and left me wanting to know more about the story ahead of me, in fact I struggled to put the book down and every spare minute I had I was nose buried in it!

I loved the twist to this book, I don’t want to say too much and spoil it for anyone who wants to read, but I loved the dynamics between the characters and the struggle Harper has between what it right and what is wrong regarding her relationship with Silas. I also enjoyed the references to Harper missing human life.

A very good debut and well written! Looking forward to the next installment to see how the story continues!

Wow, I need the next book, please!

What a crazy ride! You know it's a good book when you can't believe the last page is, well, the last page! What I loved about this book is that the descriptions are well written, it's fast-paced and action packed, and the story is written in a way that makes you care for the characters. You'll find yourself trying to give advice to help them! I would definitely recommend this book to adults who appreciate a good, angst-ridden mystery with a tragically romantic twist. Now, on to the next in the series!
