Kiss by kiss, she's breaking down all his defenses…
All Marcy Johnson ever wanted was to share her life with that special someone. And within the city's pool of eligible men, no one has yet proven himself to be the one for her. The New York stockbroker wonders if she's destined to remain forever single. Powerhouse D.C. attorney Nathan Carter just might change her mind. But Marcy's sexy, caring lover is definitely hiding something….
There's no room in Nathan's secret life for a complication like love. If Marcy knew that his law career was just a cover, she'd never trust him again. But the vibrant beauty refuses to give up on him—or their hot romance. When his latest Black Ops mission tears him from Marcy's arms, Nathan must choose between duty…and the woman whose kiss he desires above all others.

I really enjoyed Nathan and Marcy love affair come together. Marcy was a woman that knew what she wanted and went after it, and Nathan was it. He didn't have a chance in the matter lol, it was funny from the beginning. These two families together was off the hook, I can't wait to see how Miss Nicole falls for Alexander.
That title itself, Our First Kiss, caused that vile song My First Kiss by the evil more vile 3OH!3 and Ke$ha to play in my head throughout the entire book, so keep in my mind that my opinion of this book may be clouded by my blinding dislike of that song.
Marcy Johnson believes that she's in love with Nathan Carter. Unfortunately, she has no idea that the attorney is actually a Black Ops agent who is just using the whole lawyer thing as a front. Now, I don't know why he would be a "powerhouse attorney" and not, say, a bag boy at the local grocery store if secrecy is so paramount, but I guess the author doesn't believe that readers would find the idea of marrying a bag boy romantic. At any rate, Nathan wants to be mean to Marcy so that she would go away, but she's not letting go of his big... charm anytime soon, and his and her parents as well as an entire room full of secondary characters and sequel baits are all cheering her on to cling to him even harder and drag him down the aisle.
And that's pretty much the story. Despite Nathan being a Black Ops dude, there is minimal spy kung fu drama here, and what little there is is glossed over. It's mostly about Marcy being all tenacious and occasionally creepy in her dogged determination to land Nathan on the altar, never deterred even for a moment when he's being an ass to her. Secondary characters all cheer her on, because any single man in this story is to be hunted down without mercy. She also plays silly games to get his attention, and he obligingly gets all jealous and worked up as a result.
The whole thing isn't interesting, I'm afraid. There is too much talking here and not enough of a story outside of the heroine's dogged hunting of the hero to everyone else cheering in the background. I don't think Marcy even knows Nathan well by the time she has him shackled to her kennel of love. The romance doesn't feel like something that develops naturally between Marcy and Nathan, thanks to the forceful interventions by various secondary characters every other page practically demanding that Nathan marry Marcy as this is the only right thing the man can do. The story ends up being more about getting married than falling in love.
Our First Kiss ends up being a textbook example of a romance that is driven by very intrusive secondary characters, as if the author doesn't believe in getting the main characters to fall in love on their own. And the end result is deeply unsatisfying, especially as Nathan ends up marrying Marcy because he's nagged and emotionally manipulated into it.
Marcy Johnson believes in “love at first sight” and is a woman on a mission to get her man. Nathan Carter is that victim – uh, man!
The heroine of Our First Kiss is drawn to the hero as soon as she lays eyes on him. Marcy’s feelings are solidified when she shares a kiss with him – a kiss she initiates – at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve. Despite the fact that her brother is marrying Nathan’s sister and that Nathan resists her advances, she is steadfast in her pursuit of him. This beautiful, successful and intelligent stockbroker clearly knows what she wants, but my problem with Judy Lynn Hubbard’s leading lady is that she’s decided to give herself to him, body and soul, without really knowing anything about the man.
Nathan has a secret. His job as a government lawyer is a cover for his Black Ops missions overseas. And it’s that secret that prevents him from jumping into bed with Marcy at the first opportunity and envisioning a long term relationship with her. But his resistance is no match for Marcy’s wily schemes to get his attention, his and her parents’ matchmaking plans, nor his own desire to give up his clandestine profession and lead a “regular” life.
While the reader knows what Nathan ultimately wants and the dilemma he faces, Marcy doesn't and she comes across as too aggressive at times. Ms. Hubbard never allows the lovers to deal with his sense of duty in a realistic and intelligent way together before he disappears “like a thief in the night” as far as Marcy is concerned. I truly believe this strong, perceptive and fiercely loyal woman could’ve handled the truth and gained a better understanding of the man she seemingly loved.
As the second installment in Ms. Hubbard’s “Carter Family Trilogy,” Our First Kiss provides a nice update on the characters from Our First Dance and an interest-piquing prologue to her next book, Our First Embrace.
1. Take a wonderful book like Our First Dance and introduce their families. 2. The brother of the bride and the sister of the groom should share a kiss at midnight on New Year's Eve. 3. The connection by said brother and sister in law is so strong, it cannot be denied. 4. Mothers of both bride and groom see the potential to expand their already blending families to include another coupling. 5. Fathers of both bride and groom sit back, shake their heads, and know that they will never win an arguement that would tell their wives to back off. 6. Though a secret life may have the potential to destroy what they are building, the love is so strong, it cannot be denied.
I can go on and on, and it will only scratch the surface of the steps that I feel that Judy Lynn Hubbard took when it came to a decision to write a sequel to Our First Dance that included the brother of the bride and the sister of the groom getting together and falling in love.
Nathan and Marcy shared a kiss in Our First Dance, and you just knew that they were destined to be together. However, Nathan had secrets that he thought would deny him of this life with Marcy. Marcy, was determined and head-strong and would not allow this love to be denied, however. Some may say that she was bossy, or pushy, but I say that she was a woman who knew what she wanted and went after it. Nathan knew he wanted the same, but thought he could not take the risks involved. I'm happy that Marcy and the love he had for her won out! A great sequel to a wonderful story!
This book started off a little slow for me at first. Marcy was a little too aggressive for my taste. She seemed to be begging Nathan for his attention. Although we knew how Nathan felt, she didn't. It picked up really good a quarter of a way through the book and I couldn't put it down. I can't wait to see what the next book will bring.
Marcy Johnson wanted Nathan Carter from their first meeting at the end of Our First Dance, and set out on a quest to win the heart of Nathan Carter. This is an interesting read. First time I read where the female was the aggressive one and at times forced Nathan to tell her to "let him be the man. This couple had their obstacles to cross and again it was an interesting read
Determination is the key Marcy Johnson , steps out bold to get what she wants and make her dreams come true. Being told "No" only has her trying harder. Nathan Carter has big secrets, so he walks away.
I loved Marcy and how she went after her man. Nathan didn't have a chance once Marcy laid eyes on him. He put up a great fight, but LOVE won in the end! Great read!
