Dr. Jack Graham is the pastor of Prestonwood Baptist Church, one of the nation's largest, most dynamic congregations.
When Dr. Graham came to Prestonwood in 1989, the 8,000-member congregation responded enthusiastically to his straightforward message and powerful preaching style. He challenged the Prestonwood family with a vision for a larger outreach, and in 1999, the church moved from its North Dallas location to a new 7,500-seat auditorium in west Plano.
Thriving with more than 33,000 members, Prestonwood continues to grow with seven weekend worship services, four midweek services, about 300 Bible Fellowship classes for all ages, and multiple outreach and community ministries that reach thousands. In 2006, the church added a second location, the North Campus, in a burgeoning area 20 miles north of Plano. And in 2011, Prestonwood returned to its roots--beginning its third location, the Dallas Campus, about two from miles from its original location.
Dr. Graham has served two terms as president of the Southern Baptist Convention, the largest American Protestant denomination, with 16 million members and as president of the SBC Pastor's Conference.
He is a noted author of numerous books, including You Can Make a Difference, Lessons from the Heart, A Hope and a Future, Life According to Jesus, Are you Fit for Life?, Powering Up and Unseen. Courageous Parenting, co-authored by his wife, Deb, is based on their experiences as parents. Dr. Graham's passionate, biblical teaching is also seen and heard across the country and throughout the world on PowerPoint Ministries. Through broadcasts, online sermons and e-mail messages, he addresses relevant, everyday issues that are prevalent in our culture and that strike a chord with audiences worldwide.
Dr. Graham was ordained to the Gospel ministry in 1970, and has a master of divinity degree with honors and a doctor of ministry degree in Church and Proclamation from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
This book is about the unseen world all around us. There is a spiritual dimension in this world, as well as, the next. The spiritual world here is made up of both good and evil.
Even if we don’t acknowledge the spiritual world, it still exists. The author tells us how to combat against the evil forces in this world–how to successfully live here. He gives ideas about ways to pray, suggestions for Bible reading and urges us to stay aware of the spiritual dimension. The reader is encouraged to align their thoughts with God’s thoughts. Mr. Graham reminds us to put on the full armor of God, and explains what that is in depth.
Sadly, the author knows that we will have times of trouble. He relates that in his own life his father was brutally murdered. Despite that horrible ordeal, Mr. Graham wants us to remember that Jesus has overcome everything in this world. As Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”–John 16:33 Mr. Graham tells us following Jesus and His ways got him through the horror of the murder of his father. That event is what brought understanding to the author about the spiritual world.
This author also talks about the spiritual world to come and the victory we will have there. It is a wonderful place that includes reunions with loved ones, independence from pain, freedom from sadness and the joy of being with the Lord. It is a place where, at last, we will find liberty from all the constraints of this world.
This is a great book for many different reasons. It gives good advice for people who are having difficulties, and gives solid instruction about dealing with them from a spiritual perspective. The book also gives direction for any Christian whether they are in the midst of troubling times or not. Finally, we get the hope of the next world along with descriptions of what to expect there.
This is a book every Christian should read. It is eye opening and gives good direction for everyone no matter what stage of life they are in. I would recommend it for someone going through difficult times. I would also recommend it for someone who has been blessed not to have experienced difficult times, but wants to be proactive for the future. In the spirit of unseen warfare around us, I seriously suggest the reader pray for lack of distractions and good concentration when reading. This book gets five stars and my recommendation.
The publisher has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book through Bethany House Publishing for the purpose of review. All opinions expressed are my own, and I have not been compensated in any other manner. Despite my receiving the book free, it has not influenced my judgment, and I have given an honest opinion.
A very powerful and important book on some incredible topics as it relates to the Christian faith. What do you believe in the following: Satan, demons, angels, spiritual warfare, prayer, eternal life, heaven, hell and ultimately what happens when I die. Our author gives us plenty of biblical Scripture and reasons to ponder these life-or-death topics that truly affect our souls for eternity. Each chapter ends with five questions to ponder to further apply what you have read. Our culture today, even in our Evangelical churches, water down the fact of a real heaven, a real hell that real people will go to. The fact that you may not know plus maybe your attitude is I will just see what happens would be the costliest decision in your life. This book certainly challenges me to consider and commit to a life that holds the words of Jesus as the foundation of my faith. He is the way, the truth and the life to the Father and He went to prepare a place for me, to live with and be in the presence of God eternally and forever.
***Graham teaches the "rules of the game" for spiritual warfare--a must read***
In The Unseen, Baptist pastor, Dr. Jack Graham pulls back the curtain to expose the necessity for and reality of supernatural spiritual warfare. He uses a practical and biblical, hands-on approach to teach the “rules of the game,” that includes what to believe, what to wear and how to fight a competitor that can’t be seen.
He begins with the loss of his father, massacred by a hammer-wielding madman when Jack was twenty-years-old. Although he believed in a powerful, loving God, Jack was left angry and confused by the manner of his father’s death.
Until then, Jack, brought up in the southern Baptist traditions, preached, taught and lived in the natural realm, where “Spirit-led anything was relegated to the snake handlers…” along with angels, demons and other spiritual beings. However, his father’s murder made him ask questions that led to “important spiritual truths” …Full Review: www.examiner.com/list/unseen-angels-s...
Jack Graham grew up in a traditional Baptist Church in Arkansas and learned almost nothing about spiritual forces or about the tension between good and evil, the afterlife or heaven or hell, but in this book he shows there is clear cut understanding about things that cannot be seen and uses the Scriptures to back up his statements.
I found the book to be a good, basic, entrance into the truth of there's more to life than what you can see. The supernatural is real but not how the world presents it. I also enjoyed the discussion sections at each end of the chapters.
Wow! I was so upset when this book ended. My life is ending and I want all I can learn about my final home with Christ. Jack Graham has wet my appetite for more. My complaint about this book is...it’s way to short. Blessed to have found it and read it. Highly recommend Unseen.
In Unseen, Jack Graham opened the book by sharing a terrible personal story about his father when he was 56. His father owned a hardware store that was next to a grocery store. A robber stole some cigarettes and his father picked up a hammer and tried to stop him. He missed and the robber picked up the hammer and charged at him. His dad was trained in self-defense but he lost his balance and he hit the concrete and was knocked out cold. The robber hit his father’s skull repeatedly until he was badly wounded and later he died. He believed that this was a spiritual force at present. This book covered the real aspects of darkness and the evil forces around us. But he also deliberated the topic of angels in scripture and their missions.
I would recommend this life changing resource to every single believer who is ready to gear up on their knowledge of angels, evil forces, Heaven, and the full armor of God. It is also a wonderful book to new believers and it will guide them on learning more about the spiritual world. I immensely learned the prominence of following the advice found in Ephesians and standing against the schemes of satan and not giving into his lies. Jack Graham did an amazing job at connecting the chapter together and informing readers on the basic foundations of spiritual warfare and how to handle the attacks of satan. I especially appreciated the helpful suggestions of praying frequently and the benefits of having an active prayer life. If you’re seeking a book that has the power to change your life, read this one!

FULL DISCLOSURE: I am a member of Prestonwood from January 2020, where Dr. Graham is pastor. However, I owned this book prior to joining.
Growing up in a Southern Baptist church, the concept of spiritual warfare was considered the realm of the Pentecostals and charismatics, and thus was relegated to "Things We Don't Talk About". Though taught about the person of the Holy Spirit and the reality of Satan, Heaven and Hell (the latter two being "one place was desirable and the other place definitely was not"), that would be the extent of Graham's understanding of the topic until around the 1970's when two major events would lead him to reconsider the topic: the emergence of several leaders within the SBC (Ron Dunn, Jack Taylor, and Manley Beasley) who were speaking on the topic, and the brutal 1970 murder of his father which led him to understand the reality of the topic.
For those who are in denominations where the topic isn't discussed, or who are looking for a more balanced approach to the topic than may be found in some circles, I highly recommend the book.
A masterfully written book about the reality of the spiritual realm. This book will help those who have submitted themselves to Christ stand strong in these difficult times.
Pastor Graham also is a bit of an instruction manual concerning spiritual warfare. He backs up his conclusions biblically.
The chapter on heaven and what to expect inspired great hope and relief. This is the great hope of all believers and this chapter did not disappoint.
I would heartily recommend this book to all Christ followers. Well done!
I received this book free as part of the goodreads early reading program.
As a dedicated Catholic, I wanted to explore more about the "unseen" world and this book gave the perfect opportunity to do so. Detailed and informative, which connects back to scripture and to the author's own personal experiences. I highly recommend to any dedicated churhc-goer who wonders what is indirectly stated by the Bible and what to make of it.
I gave this book for my mom to read, and she loved it. It is helpful to read and be conscious that there are battles we can't see going on but ones that we definitely feel the effects of. And we definitely should never forget that. The book was easy to read and understand. The concepts were really interesting too.
A five star review does not do this book justice. It is an excellent commentary about the unseen spiritual world using the Bible, examples, explanations, and scholarly quotes. Dr. Graham gives us very clear pictures of heaven, hell, angels, and demons. This is a book that every Christian needs to read and absorb, no matter how long you have been saved.
This is not a book I would normally read. I grew up in church as a child but am not a church goer now. The book itself is well written and the analogies used make it easy to identify with what the author is trying to portray. I will be passing this book along to some family I know will enjoy it.
