Marc Royce #3

Strait of Hormuz

The threat of an Iranian blockade of the narrow Strait of Hormuz is escalating global tensions. Sanctions against Tehran have begun to bite, and it seeks to retaliate by cutting off vital shipping routes for crude oil. The specter of a preemptive Israeli strike has US officials on edge as they struggle to keep the world from plunging into the abyss.

Stymied in its efforts to uncover the sources of funding that bolster the Iranian nuclear program, the State Department calls on Marc Royce to investigate. With little to go on, he'll have to rely on an old ally. Kitra Korban has ties to people with the means to get things done, so long as no questions are asked.

But Iran is on the brink of nuclear capability, and time is running out.

Each book in this series had an element that made it different. Lion of Babylon bears the excitement of the "unknown" because a grieving Marc has just been thrown into a crazy and dangerous situation in a foreign land. In Rare Earth, Marc has more emotional control, and so the book comes from a different angle: the federal agent superhero instead of the uncertain but physically capable combatant. In Strait of Hormuz we find Marc in a battle to maintain his new stability even as he's thrown into a perilous situation with the woman he cannot love.

Strait of Hormuz was an exciting read, starting with the very first chapter and entertaining all the way to a marvelous close. I felt the urge to hold on tight as Marc and his friends whirled their way through explosions, gun fights, deceptions, opposition, and a high-speed chase in a red Ferrari! The intricate plot and a strong emphasis on faith intertwine to make this story a moving tapestry, more then worthy to take a stand in the gallery of exceptional literature. Outstanding!

An exciting finish to the Marc Royce series. I enjoyed the reference to Christian actions throughout the story. Some important Christian principles were on display in the story.

I fell in love with Marc Royce in Lion of Babylon, the first book in the Marc Royce trilogy. Marc is one of those characters that sticks with you long after you finish the book. He and Kitra Korban met in the second book, Rare Earth. They fell in love, but have apparently decided their lives are too diverse for love to survive. Now in the opening pages of Strait Of Hormuz they are reunited by danger. Will they follow their hearts, or will they again decide to be noble and sacrifice all?
Don't start reading Strait Of Hormuz until you have sufficient time to enjoy, because you won't want to put it down.My only regret is that this is the last Marc Royce book.

I received this book from Bethany House publisher in exchange for my honest review.

#3 Marc Royce Thriller

Wow, this series just keeps getting better!

Marc Royce is a favourite hero of mine. He is a warrior, yet also has a gentleness about him as well as a caring heart. He has a strong faith in God, and I appreciate how his relationship with God is a natural part of his life. He is not perfect, he does miss things, yet he takes responsibility for that; learns from it and moves on.

In #2 we meet Kitra Korban, an Israeli Marc falls in love with. At the end their relationship was left a bit up in the air. While I felt they were perfect for each other, I really wasn’t sure how it was going to work with both of them having a cause on their heart that seemed to be leading them in different directions. Therefore, while I have been looking forward to getting this story, I was also a little apprehensive as to how it was all going to work out, and wondering whether I was going to be content with the ending.

I needn’t have worried.

However, I was pleased that Davis Bunn didn’t make that journey easy. Those issues that I was concerned about in #2 has come to pass, and we now see them as they struggle with the fallout of that, the current situation that has thrown them back together, and pray about what the future could be for them.

The title of this story is interesting as from the cover you assume the action is taking place in the Strait of Homutz. Well, it’s central to the story but the action there takes place “off-screen”. Most of the story is set in Switzerland, with visits to France, Italy (very briefly), Israel and Egypt. However, I think the title is a very good choice.

I loved how the countries came to life in this story! I felt I was travelling through them with the characters and could clearly see, smell and hear the sights and sounds of each place.

I really advise reading this series in order, or at least reading #2 before this one to better appreciate Marc and Kitra and their relationship. I liked that Carter Daws made another appearance in this story too.

So come along on another wild ride with Marc as he sets out to figure what is going on and stop the unthinkable before it’s too late!

Now Marc is an agent for the United States Government and was told not to follow this situation since it could cause an international situation if he continued would be fired. He was asked by Ambassador Walton to help find out the source of money laundering from an art purchase. If he continued following the leads he would be working without a backup.

We meets Kitra Korban was a very intelligent and perceptive woman who had been a part of Marc's past. She came from Israel to Geneva because she had been to warn Marc of danger if he entered Geneva's most exclusive art gallery he would be killed. Instead she was put in danger, alerting Marc that someone knew he was in Geneva and he now he had a job of keeping Kitra safe.
Next we meet Rhana Mandana who owned one of the world’s finest art galleries. She liked to live dangerously, and not to trust anyone. Then there is Sir Geoffrey Treadwick who had an art collection worth about five million dollars. Treadwick In addition to priceless art he had a boat that was a comfortable abode.
A book of action, love, knowledge and skills that kept the final actions from causing harms too many people of the worlds was God working. .
A positive message of faith, strength, wisdom, and healing portrayed in this book gave strength and courage in a situation where evil abounded was stopped. . I loved the spiritual overtones especially the surprise convert ion of Rhana. - "with God, all things may come to pass.").

Enjoyed this book, wow

Timely Read Considering What Is Happening In Iran

I worked with the Iranian Air Force in 76-77 at the base in Bandar Abbas located on the Strait of Hormuz. Funny that I read the previous two book a number of years ago but not this one.

The over all plot is fairly complex and involves a number of characters, including some from the prequels. It is a top rate thriller with many plot twists. Sometimes it took several readings to make sure I caught the drift of the storyline.

There is a more prominent Christian content than in some of the other Bunn books. It is in this context that I had some concern. On page 173 Marc say "... I feel like we need to look at this honestly before we can work out what God wants." Honestly, it doesn't matter what we want, God gives us what we need. His will, His plan and His timing is perfect. We need to stop trying to be in control. Stop trying to execute out plan first.

On the positive side, we have visited with Arab and Palestinian brothers and sisters of the faith in Israel, Jordan, and Egypt, as well as Azerbaijan, and saw some of the restrictions that the church faces when practicing their faith. It is very well represented by Bunn.

Anyway, enjoy the roller coaster ride.

Solid spy / military book. The aspect of religion, spirituality were welcome threads throughout.

I particularly enjoyed the description of skirmishes and defending / attacking;
“Marc spotted one of the other Gunners swing his way, and yelled, “Hand! hand!”
The injured guard caught the message and was reaching out when Marc scrambled past. He snagged the hand and dragged the man behind the wall as the gunner took aim. They were showered with stone dust and clumps of earth.”

The love story in the book was complex and interesting. I felt like the relationship was allowed to develop.

Well done!

In typical Davis Bunn fashion, this book is superbly researched with some fine detailing that really makes you feel part of the many diverse settings. He is also a talented action writer. The problem I found was that the action peaked early and petered out without the necessary crescendo in favour of further developing the characters, which I personally found less convincing and interesting.

Middle East Intrigue and Adventure

Four stars for being an enjoyable read. Not five stars due to many choppy scene transitions. The novel is otherwise well written and very well researched. Some nice romance spiced up the novel, and the Christian overtones were tastefully done. Most readers, in my opinion, will enjoy reading this book.

You Are There. . .

Davis Bunn has the ability to take the reader to a foreign land, take in the history , the climate, the culture, and almost taste the food. The military language and activities, the risks, the loyalties, all carry the reader to experience breathtaking anticipation.

Well, shame on me! I started this book not knowing or reading the two preceding stories. That didn't seem to affect the readability of the book, but I can see from other Bunn enthusiast comments that had I followed the sequence, this book would have been that much better. I need to fix that!

Grand series wrap up

Bunn has done it again - taken his hero and heroine, and wound a story of intrigue, of deception, of guile, through international straits, and brought hope, life and love. Grand read!

All should read to understand

This is an old book, yet very contemporary to today. Most Americans don't understand and just think we should all just get along. Its not possible on earth today. A big battle is coming and the enemy is evil.

Yet another heart pounding suspense story to keep me riveted to the pages. Marc Royce, the maverick investigator, is back in the middle of the action. Exploding art exhibits, potentially stolen nuclear missiles, and money laundering are just some of the elements of this fast-paced story. Why is it titled "Strait of Hormuz"? Find out how critical this area of the world is when you read this adventure!

1 Timothy 6:11-12
King James Version (KJV)
11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

Matthew 19:26
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

If you (like me) are a fan of Davis Bunn's action character, Marc Royce, then get ready for a treat. What started in Lion of Babylon and it's sequel, Rare Earth, continues in Bunn's latest novel, Straight of Hormuz, due out November 5, 2013.

Part three has more action, more plot twists, and even more problems to overcome. Seemingly isolated from his government, in conflict in his personal relationships, and facing a foe that is both intelligent and tricky, what's a spy to do?

However, for me personally, the true resolution of the book doesn't come at the very satisfying ending that leaves the possibility of another sequel (please?). It comes on pages 201 and 202 out of 332 pages. Marc Royce teaches us all a much needed lesson:

"I have spent my entire adult life training to be a warrior. To analyze and fight and succeed. To control risk and battle danger. And yet there comes a moment when I must go against my training. When I must accept that events are not to be fought against, but rather accepted in prayer. That at such times I cannot retreat into the safety of coldness and anger and still remain a faithful servant. There is NO (emphasis mine) harder lesson for me to learn than to recognize the moment when I am called to be weak."

Wow! What a lesson!

I can hear Paul (I believe) saying: 32 And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:
33 Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions.
34 Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. (Hebrews 11:32-34).

I can hear 2 Chronicles 20:15 : And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.

We humans, especially men, seem to go through life trying to "defeat our enemies." Every situation we find ourselves in must be analyzed, strategized, and conquered. We pat ourselves on the back for our ingenuity. Yet, sometimes, our Lord has to allow the situation to get so bad that we have no choice but to look up and ask for his divine help. That's usually when he moves his sovereign hand and brings victory- after we have submitted to him.

This is why I enjoy these books so much. Though Marc is an amazing character in literature, he is not presented as a superman. He is presented as well trained, intelligent, and dedicated, but as a real human being. He suffers the same doubts, fears, and weaknesses that we do.

Most importantly, he has to rely on God's help to bring the victory, just as we do.

If you want to read a good book just for enjoyments sake, Straight of Hormuz is an excellent choice. However, if you want to get more out of it than an afternoon or two's entertainment, then dig a little deeper.

This action book should come with a Christian study guide. It covers themes of relationships with the opposite sex (keeping ourselves pure), standing for truth (even when our superiors are against us), relationships with other believers, and much more.

Want to taste before you buy? Here's a link to the first 3 chapters: (http://statictab.com/j4s7yd8).

Good stuff, Davis Bunn. When's the next one coming out?

MY REVIEW

A most exciting and satisfying sequel to Rare Earth. I highly recommend this offering by Davis Bunn. Marc Royce on another mission, this time to prevent global conflict and an Iranian nuclear arms attack... or would that be chemical warfare against the United States. Royce's love life is explored, and it is very well done, too.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

1. The first two novels in the Marc Royce series have been bestsellers and also won praise from critics. Lion of Babylon was named one of Library Journal’s Best Books of 2011, and Rare Earth won the 2012 Christy Award for Suspense Fiction. What do you see is behind this success? The stories have certainly resonated with the audience. I have tried to develop a strong sense of unfolding drama combined with a unique spiritual theme. This moral structure plays out both in the story and the characters. My aim is to create an inspirational challenge that remains with the reader long after the book has been set down.

2. All three of these stories focus on the missionary church movement in high-risk areas of the world. Lion of Babylon explored the church in Baghdad, and Rare Earth looked at the rising church movement in Kenya. Where does Strait of Hormuz take place?
Well, obviously the title gives this away, at least in part. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical waterways. Stretching between Iran and the Gulf states, the Strait is home to two U.S. fleets. More than one-third of all the oil consumed worldwide passes through these waters. But the story actually begins in Switzerland, before traveling to the Sinai Peninsula and then into the hotly contested Strait of Hormuz.

3. What spiritual theme is the focus of this third novel?
One growing area of the missionary church movement is with displaced persons. More than five million Iranians have been expelled from their homeland or been forced to flee the current regime. This includes virtually the entire Christian population. The missionary movement has made enormous strides in bringing peace to these families and introducing Christ to those Muslims exiled because of an oppressive government.

4. What drew you to the missionary church movement as a theme?
I actually came to faith in a missionary church. I was working as a consultant based in Germany.

The year I accepted Christ, the Southern Baptist Mission Board founded a missionary church in Dusseldorf. I attended the church, I grew in the church, I studied under two amazing pastors, and one of them returned to Europe to officiate my wedding. It was also where I learned to write. Two weeks after coming to faith, I felt called to writing. I wrote for nine years and completed seven books before my first was accepted for publication. The church, its members, and the elders all played a vital role in bringing me to where I am now. I am living testimony to their ministry.

5. All three of these novels have given significant insight into the Muslim world, something critics around the nation have picked up on. What experience do you have with this region?
For the four years prior to moving to Germany, I lived and worked in the Middle East. I was the only non-Muslim in the management structure of a family-owned company. They had three major arms: construction equipment, shipping, and pharmaceuticals. I rose to become marketing manager of the pharmaceutical division. One of the requirements of the job was to take instruction in the Koran and Islamic history from an imam who taught at the local university. I think this experience played a major role in my coming to Christ. And that is a story
I would love to tell.

This is my third adventure with Marc Royce and they are wild rides. Full of suspense, and action, but also down time with lots of scheming of good guys and bad guys and even enough romance to cause some grins. There is also plenty of faith in the characters where the reader even might be influenced in a spiritual light. I still haven’t read any of Davis Bunn’s historical novels (*gasp* I know!) but in the action adventure contemporary scene I’m definitely a fan. Love the Storm Sorrell novels, truly like the Marc Royce novels. While Strait of Hormuz is a third in the series, it can hold it’s own. The other two novels will definitely give more background for Marc and Kitra’s affections, but it can be read alone. (And if you see the note below, you can actually snag a free eBook copy of Lion of Babylon for a limited time!)

After thoroughly enjoying the Gold of Kings and The Black Madonna from Davis Bunn I have been looking forward to more adventures. I haven’t quite found another author that I enjoy the intrigue mixture with faith sharing and connecting as I find in his stories. They are political and current and make me want to read even more.

Lion of Babylon was one that I was suppose to get to review a while back, but it didn’t arrive and then when I finally got a copy it wasn’t in the schedule or cards to read. Yet then when another story was coming up for tour in Rare Earth that is kinda a sequel I jumped right into read. I’m glad I did. I swallowed both of those stories pretty quickly, so I was really eager when I heard that Strait of Hormuz was coming to continue the adventures with Marc Royce.

Lion of Babylon is an experience. It is fairly reminiscent to me of reading the Brock & Bodie Thoene Jerusalem series that I had from the library way back when I first started reading Christian Fiction with a passion. There is so much history and action combined together with politicals and emotions that it is hard to keep up, but entire worth hanging on for the ride.

I cannot help it from Sydney Bristow to Jack Ryan and Jason Bourne, I’ve always been a pretty big espionage story fan. Marc Royce definitely fills that place in my heart in the novel world and Davis Bunn does it in a wonderfully creative way.

As I’ve said before with Rare Earth my opinion still holds… Political, heart wrenching and obviously well researched I could not turn the pages fast enough and now that I’m through I’m sad, because I want more from Davis Bunn. I guess that it one of the downfalls to reading books as soon as they are published, because then you have to wait until the author writes more. This one has a touch of romance and a continuance of friendship. There are good people and there are bad people. It’s eye opening when you just want to shut them up tight. Bits that I wouldn’t have expected and others that I hoped for. This story brings in many different nations and joins them in a goal.

This time we’re headed to France and Switzerland for an amazing adventure, both in action and in heart.

Hello Friends! I have a fantastic book for you today! Full of suspense, spies, and intrigue, it will keep you on the edge of your seat! It's Strait of Hormuz by Davis Bunn! (I received a free copy via NetGalley and Bethany House for my honest review) This is the third and final installment in the Marc Royce series. (currently, the first book, Lion of Babylon is FREE on Kindle! Check it out, you won't regret it! Book two, Rare Earth is also deeply discounted at the moment. :) While you probably could read the books out of order, - at least one and two, the third one does wrap things up in the series. The overall plot is self contained, but the side stories continue from previous books.

Summary: On to the story! Marc Royce, former spy/employee of the US government is called to Switzerland by his old boss. When he arrives, he is faced with the dead body of an art dealer with a shady past, a bombing, and his ex girlfriend Kitra Korban, who flew from Israel at the request of an unknown man. Why all the cloak and dagger? Because North Korea and Iran are at it again, and this time, shipping containers full of who knows what, but possibly nuclear in nature, are missing. They are thought to be headed for the Strait of Hormuz, and into the hands of the Iranian government. With the US Navy ready to attack, and few answers coming from anywhere else, Marc must figure out where those shipping containers really went, what was in them, and how to stop them before disaster strikes. On top of it all, he must figure out how an Iranian antiques dealer, a wealthy benefactor, and a man who appears to be pure evil fit into this madness!

What I liked: The action! This book kept me on the edge of my seat, and refused to let go! The characters were also well written and fantastic. It was great to see Marc and Kitra figure out their relationship and God's plan for them both. Rhana Mandana, the Iranian antiques dealer was a fun add to, as was Sir Geoffrey.

Spiritual: I loved that once again, Bunn brought in the underground/persecuted church. This aspect plays an important role in the first book, and is often mentioned in his other books that I have read. It is something that is also near and dear to my heart, so reading about it is just that much better. (If you wish to help the persecuted church worldwide, two great organizations are Voice of the Martyrs - founded by Richard Wurmbrand and Open Doors International founded by Brother Andrew of God's Smuggler fame)

Seeing the characters struggle with their faith, with God's plan for their lives, and where he is amidst all the chaos was also encouraging and challenging to me.

What I didn't like: I'm bummed that this is the last in the series, I feel like a few more things could have been wrapped up, or explained better (the Ambassador - Marc's former boss, where Marc will end up, etc).

Overall, a fantastic read! If you love suspense, spy novels, a bit of romance, and something that will challenge you a little spiritually, this is the book for you! Enjoy it, and tell me what you think! :D

Happy Readings!

First Lugal (a lion), then Shujaa (a warrior), and now he confirms, “It’s my job to protect the innocents… to serve my country.” That’s Marc Royce, the consummate man of conscience, daring and focus that author Davis Bunn has gifted to his readers in his exciting Marc Royce trilogy.

I’ve long admired Davis Bunn’s amazing ability to draw his readers into a story with compelling dialogue, compassion and action scenes. With the character of Mark Royce, he has outdone himself. We first meet Mark Royce in Lion of Babylon, the first book in the series. He’s emotionally bruised from the death of his wife, and spiritually thirsty. We next meet Mark in Rare Earth in Kenya on another undercover assignment. There he meets Kitra Korban, an Israeli nurse searching for her missing brother. Those are understated references to two highly recommended, excellent reads.

If you have read the first two Marc Royce books, the expectation is different, the bar has been raised. We know more about Marc, and we expect great things of him. We expect a compelling witness of his Christian life; we expect to be introduced to a different culture, to grow to better understand a people; fights, intrigue, peril and a miraculous exposure of some type of deadly evil. Book three in the Royce trilogy, Strait of Hormuz meets those expectations with a flourish and a twist.

I could tell you about the intrigue, the plot and the story line; it’s a really good one. However, other reviewers have done a stellar job of that. I’d prefer to tell you about the man, Marc Royce, because he is the heart of the trilogy. You read these books because you like Marc Royce just as much as his other advocates do. His journey from a bruised soul to a man of purpose to a man awakened to hope and finds true joy is such a wonderful transition. You begin to see how one person that chooses to give of self for others can truly make a difference, and possibly you will arrive at the realization that you, too, are one person that can be led by God to influence a people or a nation to the greater good of all. It sounds lofty and ethereal in some camps I’m sure, but that’s what Davis Bunn has created with Marc Royce, a man that faced the worst within himself, took a stand for others, and embarked upon a great adventure. I really hope you take it upon yourself to read this trilogy.

TESTED LOYALTY, COURAGE, FAITH

With an economy of words and profusion of images, Strait of Hormuz by Davis Bunn is a story seemingly ripped from today’s news.

American Marc Royce has been sent on a clandestine intelligence operation that takes him to Switzerland, then across Europe into the Middle East, without backup. Without so much as a gun. He must penetrate the veil of secrecy around art thieves, smugglers, and terrorists to determine who he can trust as he uncovers which threats to himself and peace in the Mid-East are real and how they can be thwarted.

This suspenseful journey tests his endurance, insight, and wisdom. But it is also a personal saga of tested limits, love, and faith. Will he rely on himself or on God?
Bunn populates this tale with a few familiar characters from earlier in the series—Ambassador Walton, pilot Carter Dawes, and the smart and lovely Israeli, Kitra Korban. These join a new cast of realistic, intriguing, and flawed characters struggling to find their way and purpose in an ever more dangerous world.

Marc Royce begins his quest with only vague information and nebulous goals.
As he pursues information and then solutions, each connection he has with the US intelligence community gets ripped away from him, and the operation grows increasingly perilous. When it seems the challenges can’t get worse—more adversaries materialize. When all appears lost—an ally emerges from an unlikely direction. But as each turn of events raises the stakes, Royce’s focus compresses until he locks on his target and becomes a human laser-guided missile. Truly, a worthy hero.

Bunn weaves an intricate story, packing danger and suspense into every mile of the journey. The settings springs off the page. The characters engage. The plot intrigues. Strait of Hormuz captured my interest on page one and carried me away as surely as a roaring mountain river.

Davis Bunn’s skill as a writer continues to astound me. And though I know of no plans for making Strait of Hormuz into a movie—there should be.

Extra — My husband Ed believes this tale is a perfect illustration of God’s sovereignty and the thirty-third verse of Matthew 6: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you.” He also says Strait of Hormuz is his favorite of Bunn’s Marc Royce adventures, which makes this a 4 thumbs-up, 10 star review!

When you pick up a Davis Bunn novel, you’re guaranteed to be swept away on an exotic adventure!

In his latest thriller, you’ll join Marc Royce and Kitra Korban as they investigate Iran’s threat to blockade the narrow Strait of Hormuz, cutting off vital shipping routes and escalating global tensions beyond the breaking point.

Marc is the State Department’s best-kept secret.

Kitra runs a kibbutz and occasionally helps the Mossad.

Kitra shows up in Switzerland just in time to save Marc from a set-up. In response, Marc throws her into a lake to keep her out of harm’s way—ruining the first designer suit she’s ever owned. So the story tension is set on high . . .

And the fact that Marc and Kitra are in love and trying to deny it, only adds to the fun.

What I liked best:

Action that begins right away—a bombing in the first chapter.
Strong, smart women who are vital to the plot
Exotic locations.
Danger.
Excitement.
The beauty of a relationship built on faith when Marc asks Kitra to meet each morning and pray about God’s will for their future.

A smidgeon of my favorite scene:

“When the door shut, Kitra said, ‘ I am my father’s child. I have been raised to fight. To do. To challenge the status quo and bend the will of an entire nation. To force people who stand against us to accept us and give us a place. To claim what is ours by right. I would have gained none of this if I had submitted.’

It was his turn to say, ‘I know.’

‘But this is what you’re asking me to do, isn’t it? To submit?’

‘No, Kitra. It’s not about me asking you to do anything at all. Except pray.’

‘But don’t you see?’ Her face creased with pain. ‘What if God tells me to do that? Bend to a will that’s not my own? Do something other than what I’ve spent my life building?’

‘This isn’t about giving up on anything. This is about taking a new direction. Together. As believers who care deeply for one another. This is about us and God.’”

My Favorite Quote: Ask God to make a clear path forward, and He will answer you. How do I know? Because what I thought was lost forever is with me again. Yet I know it has been there all along.

I don't know what it is about me. I have always been fascinated with the military. Growing up I read everything I could, fiction and non-fiction, about the military. I had military pen-pals. I learned about military bases. If it weren't for basic training and all the yelling, I might have even enlisted. For a while there, I thought I was destined to marry someone in the military. So when Bethany House gave me the opportunity to review this book by Davis Bunn, I jumped at the chance.

I didn't realize that it was a book in a series until I was about two chapters in. In fact, I just found out that it is actually book 3 in the Marc Royce Adventures. This is a bit of a bummer for me because now I have to go buy the first two books so I can really get to know hero extraordinaire, Marc Royce, and my TBR pile is so big already. I guess I'll just have to buckle down and read more. :-)

Now don't get me wrong. This book can stand alone. The references that are made to the previous book/s have virtually no impact on the story of this book. They just explain Marc's past relationships and why he is the way he is.

To me, this is a book for both male and female readers. Although it does have a wee bit of romance, it is not too much so as to turn off men, and the action scenes are not overly graphic so as to turn off some women who may be a bit more squeamish. If you normally like action tv shows or movies, then you will more than likely enjoy this book.

I knew this book was a winner when the writing came alive in my head. I could picture the different scenes in my mind. The characters, the locations, etc., all drew me in and made pictures in my head. :-)

I thoroughly enjoyed the patriotic theme interwoven with the strong Christian message that Mr. Bunn put into this book and will gladly go back and meet Marc Royce from the beginning.

Go ahead! Put this on your TBR list. You'll be glad you did.
