Are you guilty of negative thoughts towards yourself? I call this "stinkin' thinkin'" and I am guilty for sure! As I have gotten older and grown in my walk with the Lord, I have learned how VITAL it is to apply Gods Word when I am thinking negatively towards myself! This devotional is phenomenal in teaching you just that… at the end of each devotion, there is a "When I say this…. God says … " and let me tell you… These are AWESOME!!
The devotions are great as well! Renee has an amazing way to write and make you feel like you were having coffee right there with her. She is open, honest, and spoke right to my heart in these devotions.
This would be a WONDERFUL gift for ANY and ALL women you know! Teachers, Caretakers, Friends and Neighbors, Co-workers, Bank tellers… You get my drift ;) Seriously, this is a GREAT book and I recommend it HIGHLY!!

Each chapter is a day... so 60 chapters. They are only 2-4 pages long, so really short read that gives you a verse, a story related to the chapter title, a 'you' thought, God's response to the thought, and a prayer. I think this would be a good book to go slow, journal and pray over each chapter. I just read through because I wanted to get it read in the month and you can do that pretty easily.., taking note of those chapters that really speak to you during the read through.

I love the idea behind A Confident Heart Devotional: 60 Days to Stop Doubting Yourself. All women naturally face fears and self doubt and I don't know a woman who doesn't have some sort of insecurity. This devotional addresses those issues in a daily format that fills the soul and inspires the heart.
Each day begins with a question we commonly ask ourselves. Some of the ones I related to most were: "When You Don't Want to be a Burden," "Words for the Weary" and "Shipwrecked!" I think you can tell from the titles what those are about! A Bible verse relating to the topic sets the tone for the daily devotional.
I liked that Swope then shares something personal about how she has struggled with that issue. It really connects her to the readers and she is so relatable and open that I was immediately drawn to her. She ends with a prayer and a statement of what we think of ourselves verses the way that God sees us.
I really respected and appreciated the raw honesty and vulnerability she shared and that made her devotionals really ring true.

Probably one of my favorite devotionals I have ever read. It really spoke to me in my insecurities and doubts....I highly recommend this book.

Good Book
This devotional is short but so good. She put out mess up and have scriptures to make you see how much God loves us. This book was so good with things that happen in her life,l hated to see the book end.

It has been quite some time since I’ve reviewed a book – but when I saw Renee Swope’s, A Confident Heart Devotional: 60 Days to Stop Doubting Yourself, come across the screen, I had to sign up as quickly as possible. This devotional is based on the book, 2012 Retailer's Choice Winner, A Confident Heart: How to Stop Doubting Yourself and Find Security in Christ, by Renee Swope.
I love many of the books (and Bible studies) Proverbs 31 Ministry authors have published. I have participated in their on-line Bible studies too, and loved each one of them! As a matter of fact, I have been a follower of Proverbs 31 Ministries for many, many years. I think I may have been one of the first to become a “member” (entitling me to newsletters, etc.).
When I review a book, I do a few things prior to actually reading the book. First, I review the back cover to get an idea of what the book's about. Next, I review the year the book was published (to see if the information is outdated). After that, I read the dedication page (if there is one) to see what or who motivated or inspired the author to write the book. And finally, I read the book’s Introduction chapter (if one is included in the book) to obtain a more in-depth understanding of what the author will cover in the book. I find all of these things very helpful to understand the author, the theme, and the purpose of writing the book. When I received this book, it was no different; however, after I did all of those things, I read the Table of Contents. This may sound a bit strange, but I don’t like to read devotional books in order (from cover to cover). Instead, I like to pick out the issues that leap off the page at me – the ones that will affect my life immediately - and go straight to that page and read it! To give you an idea of where I’m at in life, I picked the devotions entitled: “I Just Don’t Have It in Me” and “When You Feel Empty.”
In the first reading (I Just Don’t Have It in Me), I highlighted (yes, I highlight my books - I write in my books - I even write prayers in my books!): “I could either walk away from God’s calling on my life or I could allow Jesus to live His life through me. I could die to my desire to protect myself from getting hurt again and choose to tap into His power by relying on the strength of His Spirit. I wasn’t enough…wasn’t strong enough, resilient enough, or humble enough, but Christ in me was more than enough. You see, Jesus did not die on the cross just to get us out of hell and into heaven. He died on the cross to get Himself out of heaven and into us!” WOW! Can I get an AMEN! The reading went on to remind me that I have a choice! Freedom! “let’s allow Him to be enough! For indeed He is.” PRAISE GOD!
In the second reading (When You Feel Empty), I highlighted: “We look to our relationships, our stuff, and our status to define us. From the time we are kids, we look to our parents, friends, teachers, bosses, boyfriends, ministry leaders, or whoever else is in a position of importance to us. We long for their approval because it makes us feel significant. As we get older, we look for someone who will bestow on us a sense of beauty and belonging, of being chosen and wanted.” Although I know these things – for some reason, I continue to find myself in the same place time and time again! Renee provides some valuable tools at the end of the chapter, if put into practice, will assist us in getting ourselves out of this place. Once again, we must choose to put these tools in action!
Another great reading in the book was entitled, “I’m beyond Hurt.” Renee provides “I am beyond blessed” statements to repeat to ourselves when we are feeling hurt. He has given us so many blessings (have you taken the time to notice the beauty of the sun rise in the morning) - we just need to stop feeling sorry for ourselves and FOCUS on His many blessings!
Another helpful aide in this book was contained in the Appendix (B). I don’t know about you, but I love to recite Scriptures. I know HIS WORD will change my life – if I make time to place it in my heart and dwell on it. I love that the entire appendix is devoted to Scriptures! The scriptures are organized in table form – listing your questions and His Promises - “When You Say, God Says” – followed by Scriptures confirming each promise. I love reading each promise and that they are organized and easy to keep track of. (Normally, I find myself writing Scriptures on note cards and sticky notes for repeating back to myself, in an effort to change my way of thinking. But what ends up happening is I scatter them from here to there – and I can’t remember what situation they applied to and what I hoped to gain by reading them.)
I would encourage everyone to pick up a copy of this devotional book for themselves and as a gift (Christmas is right around the corner!). There are many nuggets of Godly Wisdom contained in each chapter!

My Review:
As I read the first day and see "When I say--God says," I am immediately reminded of Romans 12:2. ~Who am I following after? ~What I may hear others say? ~What I see others do that I would like to emulate? ~Who forms my opinion of me that I walk away with? Ready to join 60 days to stop doubting yourself? Romans 12:2, The Message: Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
Because we are not cookie-cutters, God's Word applies to us specifically for His path for us ~ to walk alongside and follow Him. The opposite of "specific" is "vague." Beginning, the first step to seek God in the areas of my weakness and His strength as I read these daily devotions. When I say, "My life is too busy. I don't have time to spend with God." God says, "Come with Me to a quiet place and get some rest for your heart, mind, and soul." ~*Powerful Promises*~ Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest." (Mark 6:31)

I really enjoyed this 60 day devotional. Very easy read. Renee gives you very poignant principles to think about and apply. The "So now what?" questions are easy to answer and start doing! All people face fears and self doubt and Renee addresses them. She helps us turn that "stinking thinking" away and apply God's truth.

This book is designed to help you gain confidence when you struggle with anxiety, being down on yourself, anger, and just having a tough time being positive. I found the structure of daily readings to be just right for me. Renee has been there and can help you find the confidence you need.

Very good daily devotional, so much so that I'd happily buy it for someone else. Every day there's a promise from the Bible, a story, a short prayer, and the contrast between what we sometimes say and what God says. I really enjoyed this book.

My Thoughts:
I've been a fan of Renee Swope's since I first heard her snippets from Proverbs 31 Ministries on the radio. This is a very simple and easy to read devotional. Unlike other devotionals I've read, this one isn't set up with questions to answer. But instead each chapter is designed to be read one per day over 60 days. Each chapter starts with Scripture and then follows into a practical story/application and ends with a prayer. A lot of the topics she covers in building confidence, I've actually learned through my Mary Kay training. Yet I still found the devotional to be very good.
I received this book for free from Revell Books for the purpose of reviewing. My thoughts and opinions are my own.
Rating - 4 stars. It's practical and easy to read - always a plus when I'm reading nonfiction!
Recommended to fans of Beth Moore, devotionals, Joyce Meyer, Max Lucado

The author shares candidly from her own experience as well as from other contemporary women and Bible characters. She is honest about the struggles many women face, and about the effort involved to retrain our thoughts to follow God’s truth instead of the self-doubt and insecurity that come so naturally.
Each day’s reading ends with “When I say... [whatever fear or negative thought we’ve looked at that day], God says... [a Scripture-based truth to counter it].” I found this a helpful way to reinforce the day’s lesson. I love when I am reading a devotional and I forget I am reading it to post a review. This book has been my early morning devotional along with my bible and a cup of coffee. A Confident Heart Devotional is a book that offers encouragement and wisdom to be who God has called you to be. Renee Swoope walks readers through 60 short devotional chapters. After you read one devotional you are “chewing” on it all day. This is a book I really recommend all women to read. Renee Swoope has the style of writing that makes you want to curl up with the bible and learn more.

Very thoughtful and encouraging book of devotionals. Three minutes tops to read each one. I did one in the morning and one at night so I finished in 30 days.
I especially like the condensed table of the encouraging sayings at the back of the book. "I feel/think" but "God says" and then the Bible verse. They are all 60 of the encouraging statements from the devotionals in one place. Great idea! I'm sure I'll be referencing those pages for months to come.

An excellent, encouraging devotional.
2016:
I forgot that I had already read this. I would only give this 3 stars the second time around. Swope is a good storyteller, however, it seemed like some of her stories were left unfinished. She would relate someone's experience as an example of a spiritual truth and then not finish the story. It left me frustrated as I wanted to know the outcome.

Tearing Down Strongholds
wonderful devotional! This book really helped me look inside myself to identify some of the strongholds and insecurities I possess and returned to me God's word that encouraged and empowered me. Great read and wonderful tool to use for helping you discover who you are in Christ.

I highly recommend this devotional. It gets to the point simply and directly each day with a scripture and explanation that pertains to life. I especially love the comparison with what we say about ourselves and what God says about us! Renee speaks like a friend would while helping us to turn to God for our confidence.
