What if messing up insanely in a video game could somehow cause serious catastrophic events on Earth? Like maybe a devastating hurricane or an airplane crash? That's what happens to eighteen-year-old Bladen, after he's chosen to play in the real-life game Arcis. At first he thinks it's cool, until his dreams become plagued by a black widow spider that begs for his help; death players want to murder life players like him on Earth, and Bladen realizes that when a level is lost, disasters can't be stopped. Bladen's life becomes more and more tormented, as he stumbles between two worlds filled with hatred, jealousy, and love, until he hits a turning point and has to decide what he wants--to continue to sacrifice in the game, even if it costs him his life, or give it all up for his first love.

I really enjoyed this action-packed book. Bladen is your typical eighteen-year-old who loves playing games on his phone. When he is invited to play his favourite game, Arcis, for real with the chance of saving the world, he can't say no. I love how this story takes you from every day life to the surreal world of battles and survival. There is also a heavy romantic element that draws the reader in. Who will Bladen end up with? Is Julia a life player like he is? Is her step-father who he says he is? Who can he trust? I think anyone looking for a well written exciting read will enjoy this book. Good work by the author. I look forward to a sequel.

After you read this book, you will see video games in a whole different way. Take the main character for an example; Bladen chooses to play a game that he sees as just an ordinary game. As he's playing it however and afterwards, he begins to realize that maybe the results of his game might cause major changes to not only himself but the world itself. The author J.V Carr did a great job at not only providing us with a great story that had a great idea in it, she was able to add great settings and unforgettable characters.

Action, fun and a little romance!!
This book was very imaginative! I really enjoyed the concept and have never read anything quite like it. I am anxious for my 12 year old son to read it as well. Bladen was a wonderful, strong character and it was so fun to follow his journey. I loved the interaction between Bladen and his friends, both the male and female ones. This book is full of action and adventure. It will keep you guessing all the way through to the end. I would highly recommend this book.
