Sena Kobayakawa
It's time for some serious gridiron action when the Bando Spiders collide with the Devil Bats! The game gets off to a bad start for the Bats when an incredibly accurate onside kick, combined with top-notch blocking, results in a field goal and an early lead for the Spiders. From there it just gets worse as the Devil Bats try to overcome the Spiders' special defensive maneuver, the "Run Force"!
He is a mangaka from Tokyo, Japan. He debuted in October 2001 with Nandodemo Roku Gatsu Jū San Hi, and also wrote for the magazine Square Freeze and Love Love Santa, published in November 2001 and in February 2002 respectively. He later moved to Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump, in wich he won the 7th "Story King" section in the same year.
Read this one and the one after it as entertainment for the bus ride to the mall and back. These covered the Devil Bats vs. the Bando Spiders. Indeed, no one would witness a game like this and say the kicking team isn't important. o_O Musashi vs. Koutaro. What a ride. And Sena introducing himself without hiding behind his title is awesome. Not to mention the mysterious phone call to one of Hiruma's cell phones and the awesome follow-ups with the naming of the MVP and hilarious bath house scenes . . . Mizumachi is hilarious. . . .
Gila. lawan tandingnya makin susah aja. iyalah plis, sudah final gt, memperebutkan juara 3 untuk bertanding di tingkat nasional. walau tegang-tegang gitu suasananya, ceritanya masih diselingi kelucuan dalam prtandingan. mau marah pada tim lawan yg prmainannya sempurna, saya sebagai pembaca jadi gak bs marah, soalnya mereka ngelawak bareng.
Eyeshield 21: Sena Kobayakawa continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next nine chapters (152–160) of the on-going manga series.
This tankōbon continues with the Tokyo Autumn Tournament beginning with the Third Place Playoff match between the Deimon Devil Bats and the Bando Spiders. Things do not go well for the Spider, because their ace player, Hayato Akaba could not play, as he was the past tournament’s MVP. Also, Sena Kobayakawa reveals to Mamori and the public he is Eyeshield 21.
The Bando Spiders' strategy is to not let the Deimon Devil Bats have the ball possession. Kotaro Sasaki, the kicker for the Spiders, does an onside kick, Hayato Akaba, the tight end and captain of the Spiders, guarantees the ball possession and then Kotaro scores a field goal and a touchdown the next play.
However, in the following play, Yoichi Hiruma is able to delay Hayato Akaba for a few seconds, which allows Sena Kobayakawa to get the ball to score a touchdown. However, Hayato Akaba because of Bando's "Run Force", a tactic that positions the blockers to induce the runner to choose a certain path, stops Sena Kobayakawa in every other attack.
On the other hand, Hayato Akaba's blocks are unstoppable and it allows his team to score another touchdown. In the last play of the first half, Sena Kobayakawa blocks Kotaro Sasaki's field goal attempt. The score at the end of the first half is 17–10 with the Spiders leading the game.
This tankōbon is written by Riichiro Inagaki and illustrated by Yusuke Murata. For the most part, I really liked the story and the progression of the story. The Third Place Playoff between the Deimon Devil Bats and the Bando Spiders have started, while the Spiders' MVP is out of commission their play is still rather strong. Furthermore, the real identity of Eyeshield 21 has been revealed and it would be interesting how the story goes forward from that revelation.
All in all, Eyeshield 21: Sena Kobayakawa is a wonderful continuation to a new series that seems intriguing and I cannot wait to read more.
Loooooooove this volume... Love all the team members little intros, love that ~someone~ wrote Mamori a cute team into too, LOOOOOVE Sena's identity reveal...
I absolutely love Bando so much and on re-read I love how much Inagaki & Murata seem to love Kotaro too bc I can't believe how involved he's been in the plot up to now and how many good moments he gets... I love whatever is going on between him and Akaba and the two of them +Juri have some of my fav designs in the whole series. Godddd I love this team but Kotaro especially is so meow meow
Also these teikoku crumbs... I wonder if that's gonna come up later!
I still don't get entirely what a "kicking team" is, I guess using kicks is someone soooo much different than 'offence' or 'defence' or even 'well-rounded' or something? If Sena runs a lot are they a "running team" not an offensive team? Feels arbitrary.
The drama surrounding who the REAL "Eyeshield" is happens a lot this volume. Sena stepping into his own as Sena instead of Eyeshield, and kind of trying to win back the title by defeating Akaba, makes for a good storyline here. It helps that Akaba seems like a pretty decent guy.
The sequence of Sena revealing the identity of Eyeshield 21 to Mamori and her reaction is worth 5 stars on its own - perfectly executed, beautiful, incredible. But the rest of the volume is really good too!
It's the third place game between the Devilbats and Bando Spiders. Winner gets the final spot in the coveted Kantou tournament. With everything on the line this was sure to be an epic game... And er...well, it is!...sorta. The Bando Spiders, while interesting in premise, are no Gunmen or White Knight adversary. Their complete strategy which revolves around special teams – rapid onside kicking, and quick field goals. Even for the most manga inspired sports strategies, I'm too much of a football fan to believe in this one. It's too farfetched for a team with only special teams to be beating a team with such offensive capabilities as the Devilbats. The time of possession and real strategies are just too off! It doesn't ruin it, but after an incredible game against the Gunmen that had a little bit of everything, this feels like it's lacking something. The Spiders team doesn't have the personalities a lot of the other top tier teams have had. With only two star players, their kicker and the mind game playing fake Eyeshield Akaba, their roster feels slim and generic. Not the worst volume in the world, but definitely a cool down after the last epic game. Although there is arguable more on the line with this game with the Kantou tournament placement, this just didn't have the atmosphere to it. 3 stars for a third place game. I know the Bat's will beat this team and better football will be played after.
Deimon must battle Bando on the football field, and not only are the Spiders a kicking team playing a team with no Kicker--they have a really good antidote to Sena's runs. What can they do to combat the music-inspired team with the kick hero? Player Akaba is intense and worth being reckoned with . . . will they survive this game? Maybe with Hiruma's tricks, they can get by, but they also need to come up with their own kick hero.
Musashi is fantastic. And the scenes with the Poseidon players are wonderful. I love Hiruma's strategy (as always) and the way this is ostensibly a sports manga but is really full of human connections, teamwork, unlikely allies, and human spirit.
Akaba is freakin' sexy as well. LOOK AT THAT COVER ART. LOOK AT IT! And Kotaro is one of my favorite characters simply because he is utterly hilarious. Haha. xD
FIIIIINALLY!! I realized with this reread that one of the (rare) problem I have with this serie is how long it takes for Mamori to finally know who E21 is. I do love the moment when Hiruma includes her in the listing of the team. Great shippy moment right there.
