Rate this book
No one ever goes into marriage expecting it will end in divorce.

Every day became a struggle as I saw the man I once loved become someone I didn’t recognize. But for my son, I knew I had to work up the courage to walk away.

Starting over in a small town wouldn’t be easy, but it was close to my mom, and I needed her support. When the perfect home and a job all but fell in my lap, I couldn't help but feel like I was right where I was meant to be.

Corbin Reid walked into my life like he was meant to be there all along. His devilish smile and his smooth-talking ways are no match to the amazing heart he shows me. It didn't take long and I didn’t stand a chance but to fall in love with him.

Our secrets always have a way of revealing themselves. When the truth comes out, the happiness I finally found comes crashing down around me.

Will our past tear us apart or will our love bring us right where we belong?

Haelynn and Corbin’s first meeting…I was SWOONING so hard! It was full of so much passion and sweetness.

I adored Haelynn. She is hardworking, she is a great mother and truly wants nothing but joy and happiness for her adorable little son, Huxton. She also has a ton of strength to get out of a situation that isn’t good for her and for her son. Corbin…that man completely stole my heart. He is sweet, protective, and just the ultimate book boyfriend.

The chemistry between Haelynn and Corbin is instant and it is off the charts from the very first moment they met. The two of them together are just meant to be. They are drawn to each other and even with trying to avoid their connection they can’t deny it. Plus, how Corbin is with Huxton is just adorable.

This story is full of emotion and beauty from the very first page.

If you’re looking for a small town, single mom romance this is one to check out!

I loved traveling back to the town of Arbor Creek.
Haelynn never imagined life would turn out like it did in her marriage. She made a decision to take her son, Huxton and move to Arbor Creek to start over and be closer to her mom. She meets Corbin soon after during a slightly forced encounter. Sparks fly instantly.
The electricity between these two soars off the pages and into your heart. You can feel their connection.
With Haelynn struggling with her ex and finding out details from her past she never knew existed, Corbin has to fight hard for her. Corbin is sweet and protective. He is determined and loyal. All the things that make you fall for him. Haelynn is strong and kind. She is the best friend everyone wants. This is a sweet and emotional story that pulls you in. A story with twists and turns. Add in some amazing friendships and you have a fantastic story and you never want to leave this town.

Two worlds collide and it’s magical. Brooke weaved words of sorrow, hope and sacrifice. She wrote about hard situations and turned them into happily ever afters. I loved that the welcoming crew was Mark and Charlie’s daughter and there were brief mentions of Cole Security.

The cover was super sexy but the words between the covers were stunning. The studio scene is what romance is about. The first look and chemistry was combustible but the connection was undeniable. Even when Haelynn tries for distance she can’t deny the attraction and connection. Corbin is a smooth talker but can back it up with his gentleman and protector ways.

This can be read as a stand alone but some characters are interconnected with Brooke’s Heart’s Compass series which I now need to go back and read.

A short read with a single mother starting over and a protective and passionate hero who will do anything to win her heart. It’s swoony and sexy, and I enjoyed this one!

This story was originally titled Sacrifice and published as part of Corinne Michael’s Salvation Society world, but it’s ben revised and updated as the fifth book in the A Heart’s Compass world. There is some character crossover (our hero, Corbin, is the sone of Callum and Ellie from Where I Found You (Heart’s Compass, #1)) and there is reference to a past storyline, but everything is explained well, and I easily read this one as a standalone.

Haelynn is in the middle of divorcing her abusive husband, and has moved to the small town of Arbor Creek with her five year old son, Huxton, for a fresh start. She is immediately welcomed by her new neighbour and finds a job, and through her new friend is introduced to local police officer, Corbin Reid. It’s a unique meeting, and they quickly develop a connection, Corbin falls fast and in true alpha style, declares his intentions.

“You’ve been let down in the past. I can see it, and I get it. Even if this never goes any further between us, I mean what I say. Give it time, though, and I’ll prove I’m not going anywhere.”

It’s a fun set-up, and a swoony, passionate ride as Corbin holds nothing back in winning Haelynn’s heart. She’s been damaged by her marriage, but he’s fully on board, protective, and willing to fight for her, and she thankfully doesn’t hold back. I loved watching their story unfold.

When secrets from the past are revealed, they do lead to issues that they need to overcome (this is the part with the tie-in to previous books). It’s not too angsty or dramatic, it’s just an opportunity for them to sit back and think about what they want and where they want to be, and to find their way forward.

“I’ll never stop fighting for you, for us.”

This is a cute read. It was a bit too short for me to get fully invested and really feel it, but I still enjoyed this one.

3 stars.

Haelynn thought she was in love but everything has changed since the baby. She has to do what’s best for the baby and her. When she moves home and starts meeting people, she feels like she has some peace. When she is offered an assistant job and asks her to help with some pictures she needs, she agrees and that’s how she meets Corbin. Corbin is they’re for a photo shoot but once he sees Haelynn, he feels drawn to her. There is a definite attraction but will they act on it? Could this be her second chance?

I really liked this story. Haelynn and Corbin. Haelynn is a single mom who moved back home where she was for a short time. Her mom lives nearby. She wanted a new beginning with her son away from her ex. She needs to protect her son. Next she needs to find a job. While she is unpacking at her new place a neighbor across the street comes and now she has a job. At her new job she helps her new boss with a photo shoot and unknowingly she gets to be in it with a man by the name of Corbin. He is a friend of her new boss. There is a real connection between them which scares her. Her last ex was a nightmare. Can she trust any man now? If Corbin has anything to say about it she will! Well let’s see.

This book came in one of my monthly book boxes; I had never heard of it previously. It’s set in Iowa (which is a coincidence because that is where I am from) and follows Haelynn, her son Huxton & the trials and tribulations she goes through during a divorce from Atlas. A decision she had to make to keep her and her son both safe. She finds a family in her new friends & agrees to do a photo shoot for her neighbor & new boss. Little did she know it was a blind date/strangers meet photo shoot & she wasn’t expecting to meet Corbin who literally took her breath away. This story follows what happens next & takes you on a journey. You can’t help but love Corbin, Haelynn & Huxton. This was a quick read & one I enjoyed.

Very non descriptive writing. It was so fast paced that it was hard to follow. In some instances, I didn't realize a scene was over, when the author moved on to the entire next day. Character development was minimal. I don't think I know anything about the main characters.

Even one of the chapters had the wrong "narrator" titled at the beginning. This book just seemed rushed, storyline was pretty all over the place. There was no climax. All around, I wanted to DNF this book, but it was only 200 pages so I made myself finish. Wish I would have DNF.

Good story, Easy read. Read this in one day. Haelynn is a single mom, going through divorce from her horrible ex and father of her son. She moves back to a small town and meets Corbin. Falling in love is difficult when balancing new beginnings, past issues, and fears. But their love is worth it. A good, short story.

I’ve read everything that Brooke O’Brien has ever written and I’ve loved every second of it.
When I found out that she was going to be going back to Arbor Creek, I honestly was so happy as I’ve missed that place. However, I also know how much of an impact this series has on Brooke, you can tell from her writing alone that this series is hard for her because it relates so close to home, but also because her passion shines through the words too.
The fact that you get to see a couple of old faces from her Heart’s Compass series I was beyond thrilled.
I loved how Corbin was so much like his father, Callum. You can tell that both Ellie and Callum did a great job at raising him and his two sisters. I couldn’t help but fall in love with him as he is essentially every girls ideal guy, he’s hot, caring, knows how to please a woman and just generally is so sweet. If I could have him in real life, then that would make life so much more better for the good.
I thought that Haelynn was such a strong character, she’s been through a lot and you can’t help but be in awe of her because she’s doing such an amazing job at raising her son Huxton.
The one thing that I would to have had more of, is to know what tipped her ex to treat her the way he did. He treated her so badly that she had to escape and whilst he was determined to prove to her that she was his, it would have been nice to have known his motives.
I can’t fault the story, I thought it was pretty deep and emotional and you can’t help but fall in love with the characters.
I honestly would recommend that you give this book a read because Brooke’s work always touches you when you least expect it, plus she is super talented and I can’t help but love her work.

Haelynn thought she could have it all, she had a husband, an amazing place to live, her husband provided for her and she had the most adorable child going. Nothing could be more perfect, however things changed overtime and instead of being in such a happy family, she ended up getting hurt, abused and it just wasn’t safe for her anymore. After finally making the choice that she needs to do better for her son, she ends up packing up and moving to Arbour Creek.
It’s so peaceful and magical and she can’t help but think that it’s going to be the perfect place to raise Huxton on her own.
She’s in for a surprise when she lands a job with her neighbour and on the first day of it she can’t help but wonder what is going to be in store for her… but when her eyes land on the hot, sexy stranger (Corbin), she knows she’s in for a treat.
With this amazing heat and chemistry pouring between the two of them, will anything happen or is it just for the photo shoot???
What will happen with her ex??? Will he leave her alone or is he determined to prove her wrong??? Will moving to Arbour Creek be the right choice in the end, especially when secrets start being revealed???

Haelynn's life hasn't quite followed the same path that she thought it would, instead of living her happily ever after with her husband and son, she's a divorced mom struggling to find her way. Moving to Arbor Creek to start a new life for her and son is a little unnerving, but knowing her mom will be close by to help whenever she needs her, puts her at ease. But that's not the only person in town wanting to help her...

Sacrifice is a beautifully penned story of second chances, healing, and finding love after heartbreak. This one comes brimming with deeply felt emotion that will hit you straight in the heart and leave you all in your feels. You have to feel for our heroine, she was dealt a crappy hand where her ex-husband was involved and it made her wary of ever trusting her heart again. She struggles to find a new normal, and with the feeling of being free from having someone constantly breathing down her neck, her ex really did a number on her. I loved watching her learn how to find herself again and spread her battered, but sturdy, wings. She was a little shaky at the start, but with Corbin's support she found her way, and found a whole lot more too! This was a wonderful offering from Ms. O'Brien, her words painted a beautiful and inspiring picture of resilience and strength... and love too! Highly recommend!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

wonderfully written, emotionally charged and beautiful love stories I’ve read so far this summer . Brooke O’ Brien never fails to deliver a story that has the ability to make you feel so many different emotions all at once. For example one second you’ll find yourself utterly speechless and then the next you’ll be so frustrated you’ll want to throw your reader right across the room . There are also times you’ll feel like your heart is breaking to the point you will have tears streaming down your face all the while rooting so freaking hard . And her characters are so unique, so captivating and extremely multi layered it will be almost impossible not to become more and more invested. Where you Belong is Corbin and Haelynn’s story and it’s not a easy one by any means . It’s a journey about opening your heart and love and hope and healing. It’s about second chances and overcoming trauma , it’s filled with angst , humor , witty banter , secrets , revelations, unexpected surprises, drama , demons, passion , family and friendships , phenomenal world building . It’s the perfect blend of Small Town , Single mom and Second Chance romance . So settle in grab on tight and prepare yourself to be wowed because your about to experience a journey unlike you've ever been on before

Sacrifice
(The Salvation Society)
By Brooke O’Brien

I’m really enjoying working my way through the authors who are writing stories that are part of The Salvation Society.

Haelynn never planned on her marriage failing, but one can only take the emotional and physical abuse she suffered. She saved and she planned and when the time came she picked up her sweet little man Huxton and moved to Arbor Creek where her mother was. She knew she would have support from her and hoped that making new friends would come quickly.

Corbin was asked by a friend that owns a photography studio, she needed a couple, but a couple who had just met and wanted to do a photo shoot which she planned to use as a big part of her marketing strategy. Corbin had no idea who the other person would be, but when he walked in and saw Haelynn he was pretty sure he had met the person he had always been looking for.

A dark secret however, may be the thing that comes between them. Not looking for love, but being swept off her feet by Corbin, Haelynn who is trying to take things slowly also feels the spark and the pull between them.

Will her ex and the secret push them apart?

I really enjoyed this quick read had me sitting with fingers crossed because this couple and that darling little boy have the potential to make a great family in the future.

Where You Belong: A Single Mom Small Town Romance (A Heart's Compass Book 5) by Brook O'Brien is about Haeylnn and Corbin. They meet while participating in a stranger photo session where they are to pretend to be a couple in love. This chance meeting and instant attraction change both of their lives. Haeylnn is the newly hired photo assistant for the photographer Madelyn, her neighbor across the street. Corbin, a member of the local law enforcement, is a friend of Madelyn's boyfriend, Alex.

Haeylnn moved to Arbor Creek, Iowa, to find a haven of safety close to her mother while awaiting her divorce to be finalized. As the story progresses, surprises are in store, and past secrets are newly revealed that cause havoc between Haeylnn and Corbin.

Their attraction intensifies as they spend more time in each other's company. Haeylnn's five-year-old son, Huxton, is the one thing Haeylnn will always do all she can to shield and protect him from all harm, even if it comes in the form of his dad. Where You Belong is about a mom trying to rebuild her life anew and move forward to an unknown future. Brook O'Brien brings the loose ends together into a beautiful story of rediscovery and finding the strength to go on when needed. In the book, Where You Belong, side characters are so real that I looked to see if they had their own love story for me to read.

Corbin and Haelynn's story was beautiful, sad, heartwarming and
everything in between.

She was sick of walking on eggshells, the other shoe had dropped.
Her blinders had come off a while ago and she had had enough.
So she packed up what she needed and headed back to her mums.
Who knew that meeting her neighbour, Makenna, would change her whole world?

I loved the way that Haelynn met Corbin-it's something I have seen before-and it's such a touching experience to witness.
Their connection was immediate and intense.
Their chemistry? Incendiary
But with a little boy at home to think of, Haelynn had to make him her priority.
Their intimate moments were few and far between, but that didn't diminish their attraction to each other. It seemed they were both falling hard and fast.

But, there was more to Haelynn than even she knew... when that truth came out did Corbin stick around?
When her past finally caught up to her did she have to sacrifice her happiness?
Sacrifice everything or everyone she holds dear?

Well, boys and girls, read this short but emotionally packed story to find out!

Where You Belong took me back to Arbor Creek and I loved it. For me it was like coming home because my first Brooke O'Brien book was Ellie and Callum's story. And I loved reading about them and reading their son's story. And they definitely raised him to be a good man . Because Corbin was such a swoon worthy sweet talker but I loved that his actions backed up his words. Haelynn is my favorite hero . She's so strong and smart and oh so brave to do what's best for her and her son . She has the courage to start her life anew and to give her son a happy home. And I have to say that I loved Haelynn and Corbin's first meeting. That insta chemistry between them was so of the charts and they couldn't stay away from each other. I loved how Corbin was with Huxton , Haelynn 's son , and that male bonding club vibes that they gave away . And that epilogue was everything. Corbin and Haelynn's story made a full circle and they reached the next step in their relationship the same way they met - doing a photo shoot.

I received an ARC copy of this book by the author in exchange of an honest review.

Haelynn and Corbin had the perfect meet cute and it was instant sparks. It was if they made made for one another and once they connected the chemistry burned up the pages. I read this story pretty quickly because there were many aspects that I could relate to but also I just loved the emotions and the fire. I wasn’t prepared for all the feels but I flew through this story while feeling them all.

“Some decisions come with sacrifices, but we can’t be sorry for protecting the people we love”

I felt like that particular quote sums up this story perfectly. There were many sacrifices made throughout this story by both Haelynn and Corbin, and even ones made by other people that no one even knew about until the truth came out. Each decision was made with the best of intentions, to protect those they loved, unfortunately some of those choices hurt people after the fact and caused anger, heartbreak but eventually understanding and acceptance. I loved each character in this book and definitely need to read more.

Even if the book was starting and ending with the scene they first meet each other
I would be more than happy !!!
It is more than instant attraction.
It's like gravity pull each one in the orbit of the other.
There is total connection, they fit perfectly.
When they touch so the surroundings zoom out, leaving them to breath each other !!!
A perfect place to live if you ask me!

Start the next chapter says Haelynn
I say it's all about new beginnings or turning page when something is rotten
and it makes you miserable, bitter and force you to change.

When you find the courage to move on
there might be something awesome waiting for you.
Like a man who admires you, can't keep his hands of of you,
believe you are perfect, dreaming of you long before he ever knew you
and willingly fights for you !!!

Corbin is the son of Callum and Ellie !!!
I think I cried when I found out
because I loved their story, I read it so many times!!!

Haelynn is trying to start a new life together with her little boy. After being in an abusive marriage, she finally had the courage to pack up and leave and to file for divorce.
When she meets Corbin on the first day of her new job, sparks fly immediately. That scene, wow, it was just wow. I already fell for Corbin from that moment.
Even though Haelynn is trying to hold things off (and I do say “trying”) because she has a lot to consider, it is nice to see for her that not all men are like her ex.
The emotional depth in this story is wonderful. You can see her changing, at first being a scared, single mom that is blossoming in a woman who dares to ask what she wants and needs.
And Corbin, he meant every word he ever said to her. And the way he acts with her little boy, that made my heart melt. So be prepared for a lot of swooning.
Haelynn and Corbin are a match made in heaven.

This story was about survival Haelynn knows if she doesn't get away from her husband she may lose her life. The one-man she thought she would love forever has turned into someone she doesn't. Now that she is starting over she is ready for a new life and some happiness. When she meets her neighbors she can see things looking up. A new house, a new job, and her family are all she needs. When she meets Corbin there is an attraction between the two, but friendship is what she needs. Corbin is a local cop and his family and friends are his life. When he does a favor for one of them he meets Haelynn and knows his life is about to change. She and her son are all he can think about and want to protect. When her ex comes back can he save them both?

When Haelynn realizes that the man she married is not the man she thought he was she has to protect her son Huxton which means ending her marriage and getting a fresh start by moving to Arbor Creek to be close to her family.

Corbin is content with his life as he has a career he enjoys as well as his family and friends but when he meets Haelynn and Huxton he realizes what has been missing. They inspire feelings in him he has never felt before and he will do whatever is necessary to keep them safe and, in his life, which includes protecting them from their past.

Haelynn is so much stronger than even she knows and with everything he says and does Corbin shows her and Huxton what love truly means.

This is the fifth book in this incredible series, and this is Haelynn and Corbin’s story. Haelynn is a single mom who with her 5-year-old son, Huxton, moves to small town Arbor Creek for a fresh start. Corbin is the local police officer, and when he and Haelynn meet on her first day at work, the sparks fly. Corbin is determined to win Haelynn’s heart, and he will do whatever he must to keep her and Huxton safe. This is a beautifully written story which is an emotional roller coaster, with revelations, humor, witty banter, friendships, and love, which leads to an entertaining, heartfelt, unpredictable, and steamy small-town romance.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

I had been getting really discouraged lately with the quality of books in this genre. The last book I read last week left me extremely frustrated with it's unbelievable storyline. I'm happy to say Where You Belong was everything I had hoped it would be. I am sucker for single moms conquering some big obstacle and coming out stronger than ever. I'm a single mom of two, each from a failed marriage, so I could truly relate to Haelynn. Everything about her was likeable and believable. Corbin is the typical perfect guy. He's a police officer, loves kids (especially Huxton), and knows how to make a woman feel desired and beautiful. I wish the story never ended. I look forward to reading more from Brooke.

Sacrifice is a story that draws you in with words that are filled with emotion, passion, heartbreak and inspiration. The chemistry between Haelynn and Corbin was charged and ignited right off the pages. A story that wound its way around my heart and had me unable to put their story down. Haelynn is a character with an inner strength that is inspirational and Corbin is a man who is loyal, kindhearted and protective of the ones he loves. There is drama, angst and heartfelt moments that will have you captivated by every page and every word. A truly beautiful romance that will leave you breathless and steal your heart.

Sacrifice by Brooke O’Brien

New to this author but familiar with the Salvation Society and love the books so excited about another. With that said I did enjoy the book it was sweet and to the point. I loved that it was a single mother book. Haelynn and Corbin had the perfect meet cute and it was great chemistry. I truly disliked Atlas so loved that Corbin was super protective. What unfortunately and it’s just a me thing to me it kinda disconnected me a bit from the story. I did not like that it was a bam wham I see you and your mine we are in love type of book. It was just not my jam but great story nonetheless.
