Podiatric surgeon and ufologist best known as an investigator of alien implants. Leir appeared frequently on television and talk radio programs devoted to ufology.

Leir said he had removed about a dozen implants from people's bodies and claimed they were devices that "emit radio signals." Leir alleged that implants had moved by themselves during surgery as if to avoid removal. Leir said that laboratory testing of the implants implied they were of extraterrestrial origin.

Among the UFO-related books, alien implants have a special status. People who claim to have been abducted by alien visitors regularly have found very small implants, often discovered on an x-ray during a medical check. There have been reports of doctors attempting to remove these implants for scientific study and of the mysterious behaviour of these little devices, if that's what they are. Obviously, if such an implant would prove to be made of elemental combinations not known on this planet, this would not only prove the abductee's report but the UFO phenomenon as well.

This is the first book I read that is solely devoted to the extraction and study of such implants. As such this is a very important book and I'm happy to have read it. But truth be told, if this book were condensed into a magazine article, I would probably be equally informed as after reading this slim book. My digital edition counts no more than 157 pages, and that's including a sizeable foreword by Whitley Strieber, author of the modern UFO-classic Communion. Particularly during the search for funding the operations and scientific testing this book gets really tedious in offering a lot of unnecessary information, such as the hair colour of a receptionist, the look of the foyer, what the canteen looked like etc. It seemed that the author included all these details mainly to give the book some more pages and could definitely have been left out.

All in all an important book in the UFO literature, deserving to be read because of its merit of the study of this fascinating phenomenon rather than to have an enjoyable reading experience.

Firsthand surgical testimony from a reputable source―the (now deceased) man who has reputedly removed several "alien implants" from various victims of abduction experiences. Also included are chilling recollections of encounters with whatever force is doing this to human beings.

Very Interesting

This book helps to answer any questions on alien implants, and if it is real. Thank you to the author for sharing your work and your findings - hopefully, others will follow.

DO WE NOW HAVE A “SMOKING GUN” OF HARD, PHYSICAL EVIDENCE FOR ALIENS?

Roger Krevin Leir (1935-2014) was an American podiatric surgeon and ufologist best known as an investigator of alleged alien implants.

He wrote in the Preface to this 1998 book, “My intention in writing this book is to provide a clear, concise account of how I applied my skills in medicine and science to a phenomenon that has not been looked at seriously by the scientific and medical establishment. This resulted in the most astonishing finding of any related research to date… The story of my own research efforts is one of coincidence, driving curiosity and struggle against numerous obstacles, including the search for funding. I don’t mean to glorify myself or make grandiose claims, yet I feel in all honesty and humility that I have made a significant breakthrough in solving the question ‘Are we alone in the universe?’…

“In using the medical-surgical approach to the phenomenon known as alien abductions, I… have stepped into that realm where conventional terms become imprecise and must be carefully redefined in order to describe experiences that seem so far from everyday reality. This narrative takes you, the reader, along with my on a journey into the unknown. I present my thoughts as various experiences occurred and decisions were made by me to go forward into a mystery. I also recount the actual statements of the abductees on whom I performed the surgeries.”

He recounts, “Soon after my initial conversation with my cousin Ken[neth Ring], I became interested in ufology; this started a new phase in my life… I soon learned that we had a divergence of opinion… he had… become strongly convinced that the UFO experience had to be relegated to the spiritual, or to at least the realm of the mind… he called the ‘imaginal realm,’ meaning real but nonphysical… Our conversations about the NDE [Near-Death Experience] were… pleasing to Ken, because we had a common view of the subject… He was totally unaware that I had undergone two NDEs.” (Pg. 5)

Later, he adds, “I was not raised in a religious environment… I was quite close with my grandfather, an orthodox rabbi… [whose] private thoughts… seemed diametrically opposed to his chosen profession… he had secretly read material from both the Talmud and the Kabbalah… He told me that the essence of what we were taught about life and spirit were incorrect. This left me insecure in my own belief system. I realized that I was a spiritual being, but what that meant exactly was not yet made clear to me. My grandfather also stressed his belief that we are not alone in the universe, something I never forgot…” (Pg. 18)

After attending a MUFON conference, he agreed to attempt to remove possible ‘alien implants’ from a number of attendees. He asked ‘Dr. A’ to assist him. He observes, “I certainly didn’t have to consult the books regarding the procedures for removing foreign bodies. I had performed this type of surgery hundreds of times… My concern was that I knew nothing of so-called alien implants. I decided that my collection of UFO literature must contain some information… There really wasn’t much information on this subject.” (Pg. 42)

He worked with a friend (who he met at a UFO conference) named Derrel Sims: “Derrel took responsibility for supplying a detailed abduction history for each potential candidate… Derrel and I decided to forego the use of regressive hypnosis altogether. Derrel had developed alternative skills that would produce the desired results without hypnosis. His training in … body language, Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) and … handwriting analysis would pay off immensely … We decided to only use hypnotic regression techniques post-operatively, if necessary.” (Pg. 45)

He continues, “The first step was to notify the patients that they would finally undergo the surgery… The fourth potential patient was … Whitley Strieber… author of the best-seller ‘Communion’… he [had] told me that he had an implant in his ear… However he changed his mind at the last minute and decided not to have the surgery performed… he wanted to have the possible implant tested for function prior to having it surgically excised. He intended to have this done in Texas. I concurred with his decision… But it was nevertheless disappointing.” (Pg. 107-108)

He recalls, “In July 1986, I left for the MUFON symposium… A good number of the major researchers in the UFO field were there… I learned what it felt like to be in the ‘inner circle’ of the UFO field. I also learned a few other things, such as the meaning of the words ‘rivalry.’ ‘greed’ and ‘petty jealousy.’ I met people who were there only to represent themselves or their cause.” (Pg. 131)

In 1997 in England, he and Derrel “were introduced to Ray Santilli, the owner of the famous ‘Alien Autopsy’ film… Our proposition was simple. If he would give us a few frames of the original film, we would have the chemistry analyzed at a credible laboratory… we would establish … the accurate date of the film’s manufacture… Some months later… [Reg] Presley gave [Derrel] a package containing pieces of film from Santilli… Results from the film analysis have now been obtained… but we cannot release the results here due to a prior agreement with Santilli.” (Pg. 148-149)

He recounts “a typical conversation” with a pathologist who performed the analysis on the removed ‘implants’: “‘Dr. Wong… help me understand how the keratin could be part of this, since the specimen was removed from the deep tissues adjacent to the bone?’ His answer was quick. ‘Most probably, you dragged in some skin when you made your initial incision and this became involved with the deeper mass.’ ‘Dr. Wong… I can assure you I did not drag superficial tissue into the depths of the wound… Since the object had been in the body for many years, I would think that the structure of the organic tissue would be stable and not allow for penetration of substances like keratin…’ ‘Perhaps the original penetration brought keratin into the wound.’ ‘Dr. Wong, that is the most plausible answer. However… There is absolutely no evidence of an obvious penetration wound. We… could not find even a hair or pore that appeared out of place.’ … ‘Well, my friend, as I told you a moment ago… sometimes we just don’t understand enough to come up with all the answers.’” (Pg. 156-157)

He summarizes: “We have performed a total of eight surgeries as of … August 1998… Four produced metallic objects covered by dark, gray, shiny membranes that could not be opened with a surgical blade. This membrane was shown to consist of a protein coagulum, hemosiderin, and keratin. All three of these substances are naturally occurring in the body, but an investigation has shown no record of this combination in the medical literature… The seventh case was totally devoid of biological findings, but it did produce a crystalline or glasslike object. The eighth case produced another cantaloupe-seed-like object… Almost all of the specimens fluoresced under ultraviolet black light…” (Pg. 162-163)

He continues, “‘What’s it made of?’ ‘What’s it do?’ These are … the most commonly asked questions… Our endeavors to fully answer these questions have cost us dearly in time and money. The answers have come slowly, and at this time are still incomplete. We continue to wait for the results of complex testing. Neither Derrel or I is a metallurgical scientist, and therefore we must rely on experts in that field to find and present the answers. Once the information is properly presented to the scientific community, then it is time for scientific thinkers to debate the issues.” (Pg. 165)

He goes on, “Finally in September of 1996 the results were released to me from NIDS [Los Alamos National Laboratories]… The letter of opinion contained two major statements. The first statement indicated that the T-3 sample contained eleven different elements. Sample T1,2 contained an iron ore. The tests also indicated that iron and phosphorus were major constituents of the cladding material surrounding the iron ore. The second statement had to do with a comparison to meteorites. They thought this was the most likely material for these fragments to have come from…. I knew I had to do something to help clarify the issue. Both Derrel and I knew that our patients did not step on a meteorite or hit one with the back of their hand. I called the lab… I said that the samples were obtained from the human body through a surgical procedure… As a result, the metallurgist rendered an additional opinion… It stated that an iron-silver mixture imbedded into the body could cause a calcification reaction. It also stated that medicine and dentistry have used ceramic materials for many years. Unfortunately, the metallurgist’s biological opinions did not hold water. In actual fact, no ceramic materials at all are used today because of the tremendous inflammatory reaction that occurs… It would seem that the recovered items are structured objects that serve an as-yet undetermined purpose.” (Pg. 169-170)

He concludes, “Since not all or research data is in, what can we say at this point? Most of the metallurgical analysis indicates that the structure of these objects has an extraterrestrial origin. The composition of the objects includes metals whose isotopic ratios are clearly not from Earth. Moreover, the form of these objects is clearly engineered and manufactured with precision rather than being a naturally occurring form. If these scientifically derived results are not disproven by subsequent analysis, then we can firmly conclude that some individuals with alien abduction histories have artificially manufactured objects in their bodies of a demonstrably extraterrestrial origin. In short, we now have the ‘smoking gun’ of ufology---hard, physical, scientific evidence of a continuing alien presence on Earth?” (Pg. 171)

Leir’s robust conclusion goes considerably farther than the evidence he provides; nevertheless, this book will be of great interest to anyone studying the ‘alien implants’ topic.

This book sounds way more interesting than it is. The author is a doctor, not a writer, and it shows. It takes forever to get into the actual meat of the story, there is a ton of mundane detail that is unnecessary and the whole thing could've easily been a quarter of the size without losing anything important. Kind of a disappointment considering the subject matter is quite interesting.

The only downside point of this book is the size, I could read his cases forever, it is not the final word of his because Dr Leir kept active to operate many cases and collect many more samples. Anyone interested in the abduction phenomenon MUST READ this one.

What this man did for alleged abductees is nothing short of astonishing, Dr Leirs work and presented physical evidence in the way of extracted anomalous materials from bodies is simply mind blowing and without a doubt reaffirms something beyond our current level of understanding and even science can begin to explain in conventional terms. Unfortunately we recently lost this incredible man but he's left us all with this extraordinary book and his body of work is preserved and will forever be remembered thankfully. His contributions towards the abduction phenomena is second to none,if your curious on this subject then add this priceless book to your cabinet of curiosities you won't be disappointed. Interesting....

I thought the topic was interesting and stirred my curiosity. Roger Leir’s writing style is unique and gave me a desire to meet and talk with him so that I could better understand his experiences. Unfortunately, since he passed away, that’s not possible, but I am grateful he wrote the book.
