It took me a a little while to really get into this book. It started off exciting enough, but then it got really wordy and I lost my interest. But midway through it picked up again and kept going into an exciting finish.

Catherine, the h, joined her father in a small South American village where he was doing research. The political climate was tenuous with rebel forces trying to oust a corrupt military government. The book starts with Catherine in a convent. She’s been living there since the murder of her father by supposed rebel forces.

Tye H, Armand, is the local doctor who saved Catherine after the death of her father and took her to the convent. During a chance visit 8 months later, he is shocked to find Catherine still there. During a very bad flu epidemic, the h and H were thrown together again because she was the only one available to assist him with patients.

Later, when he needed assistance to help him operate on the leader of the rebels, he asked the h for help. She snuck out of the convent and went with him, but with hesitancy and doubt. Due to a rainstorm and flooding, they were forced to stay in the rebel camp overnight. When the h returned to the convent she was punished and shunned for running off with the H.

She also got very ill with the flu and the H, who hadn’t seen her in over a week, found her in a dire condition. He took her out of the convent and to his home where he cared for her and nurses her back to health.

The h began living with the H as she had nowhere else to go. And that’s when stuff got interesting! They had sex one night and the h was very happy and in love. The following evening, the H crushed her world when he told her he was married with a son.

He also offered her a job in the city. Turns out the job was to care and tutor a child. Yuuuup...his son. Only he didn’t tell her that. He also did it to get her out of the area because war was breaking out.

Before you know it, she’s met his bitch of a wife, and adored his son. Turns out that his wife is living with the head of the military regime and is in control of the country. She uses information that she has over the H to keep him from divorcing her as an insurance policy in case her relationship with her lover ends. The woman is a bitch.

As the story continues, the h travels to Brazil with the child to the H’s parents estate. There, she learns that the H is missing, travels back to the village to find him. Learns that the coup was successful and the rebel leader is now in charge. (The rebel leader is the H’s brother.) She returns to the convent where she learns what happened to the H. They reunite, confess ALL the loves and there’s a HEA.

It was all very dramatic! Anne Mather really takes you on an exciting journey with this one. The H and h are typical of her writing style. He is older and very much an alpha. She is sixteen years younger, a innocent and and a virgin. She falls for the older man immediately and allows him to walk all over her. Although this h is a little stronger. She tries and does hold her own with the H at times.

It was a really good read. Worth slogging through the boring bits.

I was pleasantly shocked and surprised how great this novel was. I could almost fall in love with it, if it didn't contain things I am against. I don't want to give up any part of this story to people who haven't read it yet but I have to say it was addicting. I didn't want to put it down, I fell in love with the characters. Although once you are married, I don't believe in adultery but it did happen in this book.

I love the H and h of this book 📖. It was not only a romance novel but everything I love in a book . Brazil.. civil unrest, danger , deceit, murder, adultery ,compassion, real people, real life situations, handsome heroic doctor, innocent virgin, true love , selfless hero , hot passion , history , yes Anne Mather brought out a best seller in one of her older books , 1983 which was so much better than these alpha super millionaires, powerful heroes she writes about today . I think Anne Mather best books are from from that time to early 90s . Her modern books are for the dreamers lol
