Widowed heroine Rachel Kershaw (who is 28) owns and runs her own café, Rachel’s Pantry. She has a young daughter (Hannah) who is six and in a wheelchair. Hannah hasn’t been able to walk since she was in the car accident that killed her father. One day in the café, a man stops in (Gabe Webb, who is 45). He is the father of a man Rachel briefly dated (Andrew) who broke up with her when he couldn’t accept Hannah and her disability. Gabe stops in to see Rachel, who he never met, to express his disappointment over the way his son treated her and her daughter. As time goes by, Gabe keeps stopping in the café and falls for Rachel. He invites Rachel and Hannah to his house to see the horses, which really makes Hannah happy. Will Rachel be able to trust another man again?
I really enjoyed this story. I loved the interactions between Gabe and Hannah, they were really sweet, and Gabe was so caring and thoughtful towards Hannah. Gabe was a terrific hero. Rachel, at times was a bit hard and abrupt towards Gabe, I don’t know why since he was very charming. Another lovely read by Anne Mather.

Mather was one of my favourite authors back in the seventies. She wrote daring plots that ensured her place with the Presents line. I don't read a lot of her recent books, especially reunions, because her later heroes couldn't stay celibate for more than two days maximum and their first reaction when they break up with the heroine is to whore around with as many women as possible.
This is not one of those stories which is why I've read it more than once. Rachel is a widow, running a cafe and living with her mother who helps look after Hannah, Rachel's daughter. Hannah has been unable to walk since the accident that killed her father three years ago when she was three.
Gabe Webb is a millionaire, a widower with an adult son who dated Rachel briefly. It ended badly when he wouldn't accept Rachel's daughter. He turns up in town while recovering from overwork and is immediately interested in Rachel.
This is actually quite a sweet story, with lots of interactions between Gabe and Hannah, who is notoriously manshy since her father's death.
An enjoyable read. May/December romance with a gap of 17 years.

Another one of those "date the son and then fall for his father" stories. Anne Mather doesn't seem to exhaust her love for this trope ! Again and again.
This time the hero is 45, his son is 25 and the heroine is 28.
She is a young widow, dated the son briefly. He turned out to be callow and useless. She dumps him.
In comes the rich tycoon daddy. Falls for the heroine right away. Keeps pursuing her.
But he looks ill, has had a heart attack, always feels old in the heroine's presence.
The heroine is a dithering, blubbering timid little one. She got on my nerves. Always looking lost in front of her friends, mummy and her disabled daughter. Too defensive, too unsure , she is 28 not 18 !!
Nope, didn't work for me. But I knew that even before I started. So I can't blame anyone but myself for picking it up !!

Barely 3 stars tbh. Best part of this was the cover. The stables in the background had me hoping for jodphurs but no such luck ;)
The premise was tempting - ex-boyfriend's father - but I mostly skimmed.

No wonder Anne Mather is my favorite author of all time, this one was amazing, emotional and full of struggles.
I really loved it a lot, and the ending was moooooooooooore than perfect.
Really amazing author; I adore her.

It is ok
Good enough for a quick read. It got a repetitive the story line. Not a lot of story development. Just ok.

Sure it was a nice story and the epilogue was lovely but it all felt very rushed at the end.
Plus Gabe never explained why he was stalking the h in the first place or how he managed to get so stressed out, it was all about the h and her problems! lets be honest he had problems of his own to deal with like his deviant son!

It was a decent read and what could be considered as likable but it was overall way too simplistic for my tastes. Sometimes it's nice having easy going novel, this wasn't the case for this one.
