'Rainbow Magic' meets 'My Little Pony'. Be transported to the enchanted island of Equestria for princesses, ponies, and magical adventure in an irresistible new mega-series for young readers.
This book is written for the 5-9 age group and I read it with my five year old--she loved it. She chose it at the book fair because it came with a pink jewelled horseshoe shaped necklace and because it features a horse as the main character. The story itself is about a child who is chosen to go the island of Chevalia and help to find the magical golden horseshoes that have been stolen. It was a cute story with a little mystery involved. The vocabulary was a good mixture of age appropriate words and some more advanced words, which my daughter needed explanations on the meanings (I like that, it gives us a way to to talk about finding definitions in context, etc.).
We finished the book last night and my daughter was talking about it in her sleep, so I think that's a pretty strong recommendation for the book!
I feel weird marking this as read but I’m going to. 😂 This is the first chapter book that held my 4 year old daughter’s attention that she looked forward to reading every night. We got through it in less than week and then I was asked to buy the second one. If your little is as obsessed with ponies and princesses as mine is, then I highly recommend this for your little one!
My niece has been reading Princess Pony books so when we had a chance to read one my 5 year old was so excited! I didn’t know much at all about these stories but it turns out that this is the first in a series of six books about the magical horse land of Chevalia. Chevalia is peopled by horses, there are no people there. As you would expect from the title they have a horse royal family too. But things are not all well in Chevalia as the eight magical horse shoes that keep the place in existence have vanished, they need to be found by Midsummer’s Day or the island will disappear. Pippa is brought to Chevalia by two impressive sea horses as she could be the one to find the magical horse shoes and save Chevalia.
Pippa arrives at Chevalia where she is greeted with a mixture of welcome and suspicion by the horses who have never seen a human before. Pippa makes friends with Princess Stardust and realises she has to help locate the missing hose shoes. The two become friends,( I liked the scene where they both recognise that to the other they are usually a pet) and set out to search for the golden shoes.
The book is well written, it has humour, mystery, princesses and, in this first story, a focus on friendship. We enjoyed all these themes and they are all things that appeal to young girls. If you have a horse lover then I am sure she would love them, but even for a non-horse person there is much to revel in. I was slightly apprehensive about whether I would like reading this to my daughter, but it turned out to be better than expected. It is girly, horsey, sparkly stuff, but Chloe Ryder has used interesting words and good prose so that it is not sickly or overly sweet.
It held the attention of my daughter, but it was not asked for every night. She got into it more towards the end. I think she is still a bit too young for it really and there were things that she did not understand. She enjoyed the parts about Pippa’s journey to Chevalia and the search for the horseshoes. As she gets older and understands more about horses (and about stories) she’ll appreciate it more. She does want to know what is going to happen next in the story, but I think she would get more out of it if we waited at least another year to read more, and probably even more if we waited until she was able to read them herself.
Overall, an entertaining read for younger girls. I expect we’ll be collecting more in the series at some point.
This book…THIS FREAKING BOOK…there is no words to describe this book, it’s absolutely ✨AMAZING✨.
Now, i know what your thinking, “Your still reading kids books? Your such a baby!” I DON’T CARE, I LOVE KIDS BOOKS!! EVEN IF I’M OLDER THAN..,7 YEARS OLD, STILL!!!
*Deep breaths*
Anyways, sorry for acting like this, let’s continue the review.
This book is short, but it’s sooo worth it. It did kinda ended on a cliffhanger, which makes me want to read the rest of the series ‘cause it’s SO DARN GOOD!! You can read this in standalone, but for me, I’d rather read it in order,
It has 12 books, but i can handle it, if it has 100+ books in the series, uh uh, I’m reading it like this: 1, 6, 17, etc.
The world building is soo amazing, i’m soo glad that there is a map in the book 😄 i would do ANYTHING to go to Chevalia and have fun in there (except for that one part which i’m not going to say)
The characters are incredible:
Pippa (Not from agggtm, i know when i say that name, people will think she’s Pippa from agggtm, why? Booktube 🤓) is an absolutely amazing MC, she is SUPER LIKABLE, from chapter 1 i already loved her.
Stardust is also a really great character, her friendship with Pippa is EEEEEEE! AMAZING.
For now, my favorite characters are Pippa and Stardust, that’s it…no questions asked.
The quests that they did was…WOW! How did they manage to do that?
But surprisingly, I am really looking forward for what happens next, because it’s SOOO DARN GOOD, and i need to know more about the quests and the characters.
I read this with my five year old daughter... it was the second chapter book we tackled together and have since bought more of the series. The first book was the Halloween book based on the same Princess Ponies (also good for this age group).
My only complaints/suggestions are - The charms only come on the individual books, not the three books combined into one larger book... so be aware. If you buy the individual books like we did for the charms, the sneak peak for the next book is not the beginning of the subsequent book, its somewhere in the middle. That bothered me - so we skip them now.
It isn't terrible. But it is a fairly formulaic children's story, with a gimmick of "things" to incentivize purchasing more of the books. It's good marketing, but not a quality children's book. I read it to her because she asked after a friend gave it to her as a gift.
We are almost done reading Charlotte's Web together, and the contrast is noticeable. There is tension and surprise to Charlotte's Web. There is realism in the fantasy. Questions of mortality and animal behavior. By comparison, this book is cotton candy for a kid's brain. It won't hurt them, but it doesn't have any nutrition.
i only asked for one thing and one thing only from this book. Stardust, you disappointed me for being just a generically good horse. Why weren’t you the villain, huh? just weren’t feelin’ it, were ya? its ok. i get it. you just like to be a vanilla horse.
regardless, i had a great time reading this aloud with someone i know, doing voices and such all the way through. fun time in an overall generic story.
We took a break, after reading chapter 5, for a few weeks because my 5 year old daughter wanted to read other books. When we came back to this, she remembered almost everything we had read. That says a lot about the author because it shows how fun and memorable the book is. It was a really cute book.
Ador aceasta carte, are multe peripetii. Am citit multe cărți și aceasta cărți este minunata. O pot recomanda pentru toți copiii de la mic la mare. Nu pot explica în cuvinte cât de frumoasa este. Este minunata!
first of all, when i started reading this book, i certainly did not expect a girl to be carried away by sea horses into a magical world called chevalia. i’m not disappointed by this book. this book is definitely NOT what i expected, but i wasn’t surprised either. overall, a pretty good book
My favorite character is Pipa because she is the hero in the story. She finds the horse shoe. She is very brave . It surprised me when she code understand the horses. I would not change the ending because Pipa and Stardust become friends.
Such a fun little fantasy adventure. This series is different from others for this age group in that the story isn't wrapped up at the end of the book. We'll have to keep reading!
I am probably judging it too harshly for a children's book that is definitely out of my age range, but this book spends way too much time describing how pretty the ponies are and how magical their world is. The actual advance in the plot/problem solving literally happens in like 5 pages with a font of size 3000, which means it was developed in 1 page of any average book. (Horrible sign.)
I feel like it's too dumb and not the literature that I would want my kids to consume.
Any young girl who loves horses will be enchanted by this lovely read, taking them away to the magical island of Chevalia - populated by talking horses, unicorns, pegasi and the scary Night Mares. There's new friends to make and a mystery to solve as well.
Overall, this is a great book for young girls who love horses. It's also a fun read for horse loving adults. We plan on getting the whole series now. :)
A pleasant series to read with Natalie. She enjoyed it, but was disappointed that all 8 horseshoes weren't found in the first book because she wanted to keep hearing more. I found the fantasy world a bit of an odd mix of ponies and our world, though I guess it wasn't that different from MLP. I didn't love Stardust as a character and found that Pippa lacked depth, too. But for what it was, it was alright and I won't mind reading more of the series.
I think it was an amazing book because it is magical and interesting. It is magical because a girl named Pippa goes to a magical island called Chevalia and Pippa meets a palace full of royal ponies. It is interesting because the eight magical horseshoes that give the island magic are missing. That is why I give this book 5 stars.
Read it with Cate and she loved it. There were parts that I think would have made more sense if we had started with the first book (didn't realize this was a series when we got the book). It was good for the age level.
My name is Avigail, and I love the book. The characters are Stardust and Cloud.
The problem was that the kingdom lost their horseshoes. If they don't find them until the eighth day of the month, their island will be gone. Stardust got the magic to fly because she saved Cloud, so she flew and saw the horses that took the horseshoes. So she chased the horses, got the horseshoes, and saved the kingdom.
When I read it, I felt like they were going to die! I was afraid that it would be a very bad book. But then at the end, I felt like sometimes it could be fun saving people. It was a cool book, because the girls are brave in it.
