“…where Shattered Soul was exhilarating in its storyline, Lost Souls’ strength was in its gut-wrenching and heart piercing events. Ms. Devlin had me in tears, and my heart still aches remembering what had happened. I have nothing but praises for this book, simply a job well done by Ms. Devlin.” ~Under the Covers

I have been waiting for this book since reading the first installment, Shattered Souls early this year. I rated that book 5/5 stars and added to UTC’s Top Pick list for 2013. Well, hells bells, the year is not over yet and Caitlyn O’Connell yet again made it to that list. Ms. Devlin really got this series pegged to be one of the best UF books around.

Cait, who is a recovering alcoholic, ex-cop, now private investigator with witchery and magic in her background is working on many things to improve her life.

~FIRST is her sobriety. She may not admit it yet, but she is a recovering alcoholic and working hard to keep it that way. Almost to that point anyway, but if she doesn’t realize it soon, it is only a matter of time before she falls off that wagon. I hope not though because I consider her strong in her own way , but with the stress that she goes through in each book…she teeters at the very edge of failure. I am rooting for her to keep it as is.

~SECOND is her relationship with her ex-husband, Sam. Trust has always been an issue with Sam and Cait. It’s what caused their divorce. The secrecy of Cait’s magical background which was the very reason that drove her to alcoholism really took a toll on their marriage. Knowing friends on both ends of the spectrum, I don’t blame Sam , and I understand where Cait is coming from. Trust is just hard to get back once it’s lost. It’s a destructive situation if the both parties are not willing to give a little. Fortunately, Sam and Cait will be in a predicament and will be given a real chance at their relationship. Sometimes, it really takes for someone to hit the very bottom of the barrel before realizing what needs to be done.

~LAST is embracing what she is. She is a witch and well connected in a magical world that she just cannot avoid. She is born of magic and has a sixth sense of seeing ghost, demons and other paranormals. Because of this connection, she will again, take on a job she enjoys , and this will give her the opportunity to get close to Sam. I thought with her embracing this part of her was a great idea and served the purpose of getting Sam’s respect and trust back. Now that he knows what she is, he can better understand her. And ultimately, this book is about their relationship. The case they are working on will give them the chance to get to know each other all over again. Not even Morin can get in the way. Morin, a sorcerer from Cait’s past had a big impact on her relationship with Sam and honestly, I didn’t expect it. I may have had my eyes on Morin, but after seeing Sam and Cait’s connection, my opinions of these men had a complete turn. I now have much respect for Morin and Sam has utterly captured my heart.

Ms. Devlin yet again, delivered a good balance of romance, nail-biting scenes and an exhilarating story line. But what had me captivated was the emotional aspects of this novel. Though the magic and witchery element can be debated as non-fiction, every emotional factor was every bit realistic. I had felt every pain and loss that the characters went through. I have to say, where Shattered Soul was exhilarating in its storyline, Lost Souls’ strength was in its gut-wrenching and heart piercing events. Ms. Devlin had me in tears, and my heart still aches remembering what had happened. I have nothing but praises for this book, simply a job well done by Ms. Devlin.

Reluctant witch, Cait, and her PI partner, Jason, are on a fairly mundane case trying to photograph a cheating wife with her boy toy. Following her into a seedy hotel the cheating wife disappears before their eyes in one moment then reappears to Cait as a ghost in the next. Suddenly Cait’s simple case of infidelity ties in with the local PD’s case of murder. She and Jason are asked to help with another “Full Moon Case” with her sexy ex-husband and current boyfriend, Sam. She even finds herself seeking the help of her first love, Morin.

I love the characters that grace the pages of this series. They are so vivid, they have so much intensity and I have a feeling we haven’t even gotten to the heart of anyone, yet. I feel like there are still layers to unravel and I can’t wait for each reveal.

Cait’s relationship with everyone in this series is sort of fragile. And now that she is sober and trying to embrace her true self and mend those ties with those that are crucial to her, I feel like things are going to get more interesting and exciting. Which considering these books are already at the top of my rating scale that says a lot.

The paranormal mystery in this book started off similar to the last book in that it was a Demon in a hotel room. But that is where the similarities start and end. It gets complex and creepy. I adore the witchcraft, the paranormal characters and aspects of these books. It only enhances everything.

This book was an emotional rollercoaster and I was crying at the end of it. Not the pretty little tears that silently fall down your cheeks, but the ugly uncontrollable ones followed by the gut wrenching sobs. I was truly moved.

This series is amazing so far. I am ever eager and anxious for more! Love, love, love Sam and Cait!

This series must be read in order. The first book is Shattered Souls (A Caitlyn O'Connell Novel). This is the second book.

Cait has issues. She tried to turn her back on her heritage and her powers after her mother's untimely death due to a botched spell. Not that that really worked... She became cop and everything seemed fine apart from the fact that she got all the "full moon cases" and life was looking up until she needed alcohol to dull the voices of the dead... She lost her job and her husband but eventually she found her way back to her roots... Now the police consult with her on "full moon" cases and she's sober and trying to date her ex... Hopeful that the future will be better. Being a PI is less stress than being a cop. So what if she has to help a ghost or two now and then? She is trying to live an authentic and centered life. Will Sam ever be truly hers again? Will she and Jason survive their next case? Why is she working with the cops even when she knows how they really feel about her? Will she ever be able to trust her teacher Morrin again?

Sam loves Cait bit hates the way she excludes him from parts of her life. Like she is trying to protect him?! He hates working with her because she keeps him out of the loop half the time and takes stupid risks. One of these days one of them is gonna end up dead... Especially as now HE is catching all the "full moon" cases and they are forced to partner on them. He is putting faith in her and trusting her... But also watching for her to slip up again. Is Cait ever going to completely open up to him? Or will she always be keeping secrets? He knows her world exists now so why would she even try?! What case will they be on together next? Will they all survive? Should they try again for real? Or are they doomed before they even start?

This book was world eating even more so than the last. Even when I was completely confuzzeled I could not put it down. The mysteries were incredibly convoluted and mind bending drawing you in from the first minute until the last. The suspense palpable and the thrills nonstop. The humor was morbid and self depreciating though with the context it was completely on par with the storyline! I can't wait for the next book in this addictive series!

This is the second book in the Caitlyn O'Connell series. The first book, Lost Souls, in no way prepared me for the storm that was coming with this book. This book didn't just take us to the next level, it basically leapt ahead several, skipping over them without warning.

So Caitlyn's secret 'woo woo' life has been revealed to the most important and influential men in her life: her ex-husband Sam, her current PI partner, Jason and her ex-boss on the police force, Leland. They are slowly coming to terms to having their eyes forcefully opened to what Cait has known about all along. Cait is dragging her feet about once again become submersing herself in that life. However, when what should have been a standard cheating spouse case for Cait and Jason, turns into a weird and explainable murder, she will have to do more than pay lip service.

Cait and Jason are following a woman into a seedy hotel, when there is a flash of light, a scream and then she disappears. There is crime scene tape across the door of the room she went into. When she contacts Sam, it turns out that they had found the remains of the woman's mummified body inside the wall, where she had been for the past 40 years. It's a real good thing that Sam and Leland are now in the 'know'.

Warning: There is a moment in this book that shocked me to my core. It was so unexpected, that I literally cried for over 30 minutes as I listened to a section. The author ripped my heart right out of my chest. Do you have any idea how hard it is to drive and cry at the same time? And Natalie Ross. That woman deserved an Oscar for the performance she gave. She held me in the palm of her hand as she transported me into the story, I felt like I was there living it with Cait. The first book was good, but this one was astonishing. It is worth everyone one of the 5 stars I gave it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end; fast paced, great spooky tale and above all I love the main protagonists Cait and ex-husband/current lover Sam Pierce. These two have amazing chemistry and the author does a great job portraying their tormented and intense relationship from when they first met on the job, fell in love and the subsequent breakdown of their marriage caused by Cait's inability to handle her magic/spirit/psychic side, which drove her to heavy drinking and shutting Sam out. But fear not as this is true love, and in this 2nd book Cait will stop at nothing to keep Sam in her life, even at great risk to herself. There are quite a few hot bedroom scenes involving these two, but written in a way that highlights their intense love and physical attraction to each other.

Magician/psychic Morin features again in this story and ultimately plays a pivotal role in helping Cait when tragedy strikes, despite his own not so secret feelings for her. Police boss Leland is a funny character, who despite being pissed off at Cait most of the time shows his compassionate side when all seems lost for our heroine. There are also other great secondary characters including Sylvia (a ghost) and an interesting development with Eddie, an incubus.

I recommend this book wholeheartedly but would advise to start by reading Shattered Souls first, as this book will make much more sense afterwards.

Delilah Devlin has another winner on her hands in her latest book in the Caitlyn O’Connell series. With its many laugh out loud moments, the sexy luvin between Cait and Sam, Cait’s continuing battle to stay sober along with fighting demons this book rocks from beginning to end.

This time all the spooky happenings go on in a hotel were bodies are being found in the walls that have been aged. Seems the demon has attached himself to the hotel and Cait is asked to help again to try and stop the demon.

Sam and Kait are still an on again/off again couple trying to slowly get over all the past pain they have caused each other. Sam’s still a wary man of Kait and its going to take a while for him to trust her again in both being honest with him about her witch side and staying sober. Though I am beginning to see that Sam’s got a few things he also needs to work on. But these two always set the sheets on fire…

The author does a fabulous job of not only having the paranormal/spooky aspects in the book but plenty of humor. I think I laughed at all of Celeste and Sylvia scenes. But then the author throws a emotional curve ball that you were not prepared for. But a good book should keep the reader on their toes and throw the unexpected at them.

I cant wait to see what’s next for Cait and Sam and Jason and even Leland..

It's not often a follow-up book equals or surpasses the first, this one however manages it. The action, suspense and chemistry between the two main characters is just as good as the first book. Can't wait for the next one in the series.

One HELL of an emotional rollercoaster.

After reading book 1 last night I couldn't wait to read book 2. The second and final book featuring Sam & Cait concludes in grand style and is one hell of an emotional rollercoaster. I am not ashamed that this is one of the few fantasy books where I have become so invested in the main characters that it reduced me to tears. You will have to read or in my case listen to it to understand why. I really hope that Delilah writes more books featuring these great characters. I sure would like to learn more about Jason! Thoroughly recommend this book to all who love excellent fantasy fiction. I'm off to see what else this author has written.

Book two

So this book made me feel annoyed anxious and gitty. So I was wondering at the beginning we got a lot of background I felt that we should have gotten that in the first book. But now that I've read the entire book yes it was a must. Now having Sam die made me annoyed but she got him back. With all that being said. I Enjoyed reading and listening to this book. I Enjoy the narrator and the storyline. Thanks

I read the first book in this series in 2014, and didn't refresh my memory, so I do not remember any of the back story and "last time I faced a demon" references. It didn't affect my enjoyment of the story, but I may have liked it more if I had had more of a connection to the characters.

This sequel was good, if not better, than the first book. Cait and Sam have to catch a demon who inhabits the walls of an old hotel. He also has an incubus to help him catch his victims.

Cait is trying to build trust with Sam, but doesn't share everything with him, and he tries to give her his support.

The s shock and sadness in the book are well done, and the twists to solve the crime are interesting. I also really like Morin in this book, and Sylvia is hilarious.

Fun series, hope there are more coming.

Off The Sauce.....On The Magic......

This series must be read in order. The first book is Shattered Souls (A Caitlyn O'Connell Novel Book 1). This is the second book.

This is another awesome installment in the Caitlyn O'Connell series. Cait and Sam are still testing the waters of their newly renewed relationship and Cait is trying her best to stop hiding things and start opening up all the while trying to make Sam proud and stay sober. A new infidelity case for her PI business turns out to be more than she bargained for and forces her to team up with her sexy not so ex-husband when her subject who she witnessed entering the hotel alive a few minuets before, turns out to be the desiccated remains found in the hotel earlier that day. Can Cait figure out the culprit before more women die or will she fail and loose the one person who means the most to her in the world.

I cannot wait to see what else Devlin has in store for us next and what other tricks Cait has up her sleeve!

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It had earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

True enjoyable Mystery!

I really enjoyed this book! The mystery was intriguing, as it kept me guessing throughout the book, until the very end. Now, the love story, tore my heart apart, I definitely did not see the curve ball at all. It definitely drew emotion out of me. I guess the shock made it more emotional. None the less, I was relieved to get the happy ever after I was rooting for, I think would have held on to the grief if I didn't. Ms. Delving really did it with this one, as well as the first book. I can truly read another mystery from this couple, I enjoyed their love and crime solving skills.

The second book in the series just a good as the first. Caitlyn is flawed. While she's a smart woman who knows what she wants, she gets tripped up by her past imperfections. Her ex-husband makes a perfect foil since his flaw is his wanting her.

Don't listen to this book if you don't like sex scenes. Devlin doesn't hold back on showing the physical attraction her characters have for one another--and occasionally the heat that happens when they fight.

The story is solid with a really nasty demon antagonist. There were times when the descriptions of the scenes got really graphic.

Enjoyable book. We see more or Cait and Sam rather than a new couple as many sequels do. There is an interesting dynamic between Cait & Sam, her ex-partner and ex-husband. And Lost Souls moved their new, after divorce, relationship further towards possible reconciliation and we saw more of Sam's motivations.

The new "full-moon case" they had was a doozy and not something I had ever read before. It is kind of nice reading something other than weres and vamps.

Way too much sex for me

I enjoyed the occult storyline, but kept losing the thread of that and I was disappointed in the shallowness of the character development because of the attention spent on the sex act. I believe it it takes a very good craftsman to handle all three concepts well and Ms. Delvin is not one of them. I will not be reading any more by this author.

I want more!

This is just the kind of book that I have been looking for! But there's only 2 in series so far. Cait is a witch and an ex-cop. Her friends & the saucy Sam help her do battle w the demons they find. It was fun, scary and I couldn't put it down.
